This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This state-of-the-art Dictionary defines terms employed in international agreements, national legislation and scholarly legal studies related to comparative and international environmental law and the emerging law of climate change. In acknowledgement of ChinaÕs growing role in this arena, each term also includes its pinyin translation in order to facilitate access to the Mandarin variants. The international community is developing increasingly complex environmental provisions and participating in a number of international treaties and agreements related to environmental law and regulation. The complicated and highly specific nature of environmental law has led to the development of localized terminology that is not easily understood outside its country of origin. Jointly prepared by scholars in China and the US, the Dictionary provides a linguistic bridge between English and Chinese speakers as well as an essential reference for those interpreting and applying international environmental law, multilateral environmental agreements, and domestic laws that implement these treaties. Students, scholars and practitioners in the area of environmental law will find this groundbreaking Dictionary an invaluable addition to their libraries.

Book The Environmental Regulatory Dictionary

Download or read book The Environmental Regulatory Dictionary written by James J. King and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2005 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navigate your way through 40 CFR with this time-saving resource The fourth edition of this popular reference provides definitions for more than 5,000 terms of the Environmental Protection Agency's Code of Federal Regulations Title 40 (40 CFR) to help readers better understand and follow these complex compliance regulations. Each term is defined using the exact wording found in 40 CFR, and every definition for a given term is included to ensure thoroughness. This publication also serves as an excellent guide to finding topics in the 30,000-page 40 CFR. Unlike the cumbersome 40 CFR, which is organized by section, all the Dictionary's terms and definitions are presented in alphabetical order for easy access. Each term is then cross-referenced to the section of 40 CFR. No other resource provides this time-saving cross-referencing service. Environmental compliance officers are often frustrated by the Environmental Protection Agency's lack of consistency in its definitions, which can change from one regulatory area to another. It can, therefore, be difficult to determine which section of 40 CFR a particular definition applies to. The Dictionary, with its thorough cross-referencing, eliminates the confusion and tedium of poring through 40 CFR by providing readers with accurate term definitions and leading them directly to the appropriate section of 40 CFR. All compliance officers, consultants and attorneys who need a well-organized reference to all the definitions spread throughout 40 CFR will find the Dictionary to be an indispensable desktop resource.

Book Environmental Impact Statement Glossary

Download or read book Environmental Impact Statement Glossary written by Marc Landy and published by Springer. This book was released on 1979-11 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference book sets out to provide a useful glossary to writers, reviewers and citizens interested in the EIS process. Over the last decade, environmental impact statements have devel oped a rich, but sometimes confusing vocabulary. The purpose of this book is to help people understand and communicate more effec tively by presenting, analyzing and comparing terminology used by various EIS organizations. This book is not a technical glossary or the standard glossary, but rather the first complete effort to assemble and examine the translation of complex technical EIS lan guage into a vocabulary aimed directly at the lay reader. Two major factors are responsible for the confusion over EIS terminology: the diversity of professional vocabularies and multiple interpretations of federal regulations. Due to the di versity and breadth of professional jargons needed to describe the wide range of EIS subject matter, both quantitatively and qualita tively, EIS terminology has become a complex amalgam of profession al languages. The second factor of multiple interpretations of federal regulations contributes to the confusion over EIS procedur al terminology--providing a disjointed vocabulary charged with in dividual interpretation. As a ~esult of this complexity and con fusion, the need for a uniform or standard terminology has been advocated by many organizations, ranging from the Council on En vironmental Quality on the federal level, down to city planning departments on the local level.
