Book Soil and Water Resources Conservation Act

Download or read book Soil and Water Resources Conservation Act written by United States. Department of Agriculture and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Section 6 of Public Law 95-192, the Soil and water resources conservation act of 1977..., requires the Secretary of Agricultre to develop a national soil and water conservation program to guide the Department's future conservation activities on the Nation's private and other nonfederal lands. This document, prepared in response to the Act, is based on an appraisal of existing resource conditions and trends and projected resource needs. It discusses the status of soil, water, and related resources; identifies resource problem areas; analyzes the effectiveness of existing conservation programs; establishes objectives for a national soil and water conservation program; develops alternative programs for meeting these objectives; assesses environmental impacts that would result from implementing the alternative soil and water conservation program; and presents the procedures under which the new programs would be evaluated."--p. iii.

Book U S Department of Agriculture Improved Management Controls Can Enhance Effectiveness of Key Conservation Programs

Download or read book U S Department of Agriculture Improved Management Controls Can Enhance Effectiveness of Key Conservation Programs written by Lisa Shames and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) administers conservation programs, such as the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP, formerly the Conservation Security Program) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), to help farmers reduce soil erosion, enhance water supply and quality, and increase wildlife habitat, among other things. This testimony is based on reports on CSP and EQIP, each issued in 2006, and a 2008 report on farm program payments. It discusses: (1) the potential for duplicate payments between CSP and other conservation programs; (2) USDA's process for allocating EQIP funds to the states to optimize environmental benefits; and (3) USDA's management controls over farm program payments.

Book Balancing the Multiple Objectives of Conservation Programs

Download or read book Balancing the Multiple Objectives of Conservation Programs written by Andrea Cattaneo and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many conservation programs seek to achieve multiple environ. objectives. Implementing a multi-objective program efficiently requires program managers to balance different environ. and cost objectives. Some conservation programs use an index approach to prioritize objectives and rank program applications. This approach keeps program objectives distinct and enables program managers to use weights to determine the relative importance of each objective. This report provides empirical evidence on the environ. and cost tradeoffs of different index weighting schemes at the USDA. The analyses take into account both land characteristics and how changes to an index affect producer decisions. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand report.

Book Balancing the Multiple Objectives of Conservation Programs

Download or read book Balancing the Multiple Objectives of Conservation Programs written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the Nation's conservation programs seek to achieve multiple environmental objectives. Implementing a multi-objective program efficiently requires program managers to balance different environmental and cost objectives. A number of conservation programs use an index approach to prioritize objectives and rank program applications. This approach keeps program objectives distinct and enables program managers to use weights to determine the relative importance of each objective. This report provides empirical evidence on the environmental and cost tradeoffs of different index weighting schemes in USDA's Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The analyses take into account both land characteristics and how changes to an index affect producer decisions to voluntarily apply. While small changes in index weights do not markedly affect the outcomes of the CRP, larger changes can have a moderate effect. Opportunities for obtaining multiple environmental benefits simultaneously by increasing the index weight on one objective appear limited, and increasing an objective's index weight by at least 20 percent can trigger losses of benefits related to other objectives. Weight changes in smaller incremental program enrollments also result in more tradeoffs than in very large program enrollments.
