Book excerpt: The United States Air Force (USAF or Air Force) prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to assess the potential environmental consequences of activities associated with constructing and operating a vehicle maintenance facility at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado. This EA was prepared in accordance with requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the corresponding NEPA-implementing regulations of the Council on Environmental Quality (40 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] 1500-1508) and the USAF (32 CFR 989). The Proposed Action is to construct and operate a new vehicle maintenance facility for combined use by the USAF and the Air National Guard near the intersection of Aspen Street and Camp Hale Way at Buckley Air Force Base. In addition to the Proposed Action, three action alternatives, and a No Action Alternative were considered. The three action alternatives to the Proposed Action include constructing an Air Force-only facility at the Proposed Action location, constructing an Air Force-only facility at an alternative location, and expanding/modifying the existing facility to serve the Air Force only.

Book excerpt: The Department of Energy (DOE) has prepared an environmental assessment (EA), DOE/EA-0822, addressing environmental impacts that could result from siting, construction, and operation of a consolidated transportation facility at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The DOE proposes to construct and operate a new transportation facility at the Central Facilities Area (CFA) at the INEL. The proposed facility would replace outdated facilities and consolidate in one location operations that are conducted at six different locations at the CFA. The proposed facility would be used for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, administrative support, bus parking, and bus driver accommodation. Based on the analyses in the EA, DOE has determined that the proposed action is not a major Federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment, within the meaning of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended. Therefore, the preparation of an environmental impact statement (EIS) is not required and the Department is issuing this finding of no significant impact.
