Download or read book Principes fondamentaux du g nie des proc d s et de la technologie chimique 2e d written by FAUDUET Henri and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Conference of the International Society for the Study of Time was held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut at Oberwolfach in the Black Forest, Federal Republic of Germany from Sunday, 31 August to Saturday, 6 September, 1969. The origin of this conference and the formation of the Society goes back to a proposal due to J. T. Fraser that was discussed at a conference on "Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Time" held by the New York Academy of Sciences in January, 1966. It was unanimously agreed than that an international society should be formed on an interdisciplinary basis with the object of stimulating interest in all problems concerning 'time and that this object could best be attained by means of conferences held at regular intervals. J. T. Fraser was elected Secretary, S. Watanabe Treasurer, and I was elected President. It was agreed, at my suggestion, that the organization of the first conference of the newly formed Society be left to a committee of these three officers, on the understanding that they would invite authorities on the role of time in the various special sciences and humanities to form an Advisory Board to assist them. One of the main difficulties in seeking support for an interdisciplinary conference is that most foundations confine their interest exclusively either to the sciences or to the humanities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What drives the vast majority of people to devote themselves to the maximum satisfaction of elementary basic needs and to do so with great zeal? By this I mean eating, drinking, sleeping and reproducing of their own kind. And that with an almost limitless extensive effort. Even knowing that their livelihood is based on planet earth, and that this, as a closed system, cannot physically adapt to the increasing consumption of resources, such behavior is more than just strange. From this observation alone, they would have to come to the conclusion that a person has nothing in common with a monkey and nothing in common either. If humans behaved like monkeys, one would not have to worry about the planet earth in its physical and biological wholeness, or about its living beings of the most diverse kinds. In any case, they don't behave like monkeys. That cannot be overlooked. So what drives many people, besides the greed for power and money, to such reprehensible behavior?

Download or read book Conception syst mique pour la conversion d nergie lectrique 1 gestion analyse et synth se written by ROBOAM Xavier and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Quantitative Linguistik Quantitative Linguistics

Download or read book Quantitative Linguistik Quantitative Linguistics written by Reinhard Köhler and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-07-14 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, statistical and other quantitative concepts, models and methods have been increasingly gaining importance and interest in all areas of linguistics and text analysis, as well as in a number of neighboring disciplines and areas of application. The term "quantitative linguistics" comprises all scientific and technical approaches which use such terms and methods in the analysis of or work with language(s), texts and other related subjects. The 71 articles in this handbook, written by internationally-recognized experts, offer a broad, up-to-date overview of the scientific-theoretical principles, the history, the diversity of the subject areas studied, the methods and models used, the results obtained thus far and their applications. The articles are divided up into thirteen chapters: the first chapter includes contributions on the basic principles and the history of the field, nine additional chapters are dedicated to individual descriptions of the levels of linguistic research (from phonology to pragmatics) as well as typological, diachronic and geolinguistic questions. The next two chapters include a description of important models, hypotheses and principles; selected areas of application; and references to neighboring disciplines. The last portion of the handbook is an informative contribution, with information about publication forums, bibliographies, major projects, Internet links, etc. This handbook is useful not only for researchers, teachers and students of all branches of linguistics and the philologies, but also for scientists in neighboring fields, whose theoretical and empirical research touches on linguistic questions (for instance, psychology and sociology), or for those who want to make use of the proven methods or results from quantitative linguistics in their own research.

Download or read book Time written by Bertrand Duplantier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eleventh volume in the Poincaré Seminar Series presents an interdisciplinary perspective on the concept of Time, which poses some of the most challenging questions in science. Five articles, written by the Fields medalist C. Villani, the two outstanding theoretical physicists T. Damour and C. Jarzynski, the leading experimentalist C. Salomon, and the famous philosopher of science H. Price, describe recent developments related to the mathematical, physical, experimental, and philosophical facets of this fascinating concept. These articles are also highly pedagogical, as befits their origin in lectures to a broad scientific audience. Highlights include a description of the manifold fundamental physical issues in play with time, in particular with the changes of perspective implied by Special and General Relativity; a mathematically precise discussion of irreversibility and entropy in the context of Boltzmann's and Vlasov's equations; a thorough survey of the recently developed “thermodynamics at the nanoscale,” the scale most relevant to biological physics; a description of the new cold atom space clock PHARAO to be installed in 2015 onboard the International Space Station, which will allow a test of Einstein's gravitational shift with a record precision of 2 × 10-6, and enable a test of the stability over time of the fundamental constants of physics, an issue first raised by Dirac in 1937; and last, but not least, a logical and clarifying philosophical discussion of ‘Time's arrow’, a phrase first coined by Eddington in 1928 in a challenge to physics to resolve the puzzle of the time-asymmetry of our universe, and echoed here in a short poème en prose by C. de Mitry. This book should be of broad general interest to physicists, mathematicians, and philosophers.

Book Heat Transfer

Download or read book Heat Transfer written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat Transfer: Current Applications of Air Conditioning deals with problems and applications of air conditioning. The discussions are organized around non-stationary heat transfer through walls; study of confined rooms or enclosures; calculation of cooling loads; heat transfer with two-phase refrigerants; measurement of thermal conductivity and water vapour permeability of insulating materials; and tests on air handling equipment (room air-conditioners, induction or fan coil air-conditioners). This book is comprised of 60 chapters and begins with an assessment of the unit-system controversy in the United States and the quest for an ultimate resolution. The following chapters explore the resolution of conductive heat transfer problems using the finite element method; thermal behavior of composite walls under transient conditions; thermal and electrical models for solving problems of non-stationary heat transfer through walls; and use of a radiometer to measure the average temperature of a wall. Experimental results for mixed air convection along a vertical surface are also presented. This monograph will be a valuable resource for electronics engineers.

Book Thermodynamique optimale en dimensions physiques finies

Download or read book Thermodynamique optimale en dimensions physiques finies written by FEIDT Michel and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
