Book Entrepreneurial Orientation of Graduate Students in the University of Ibadan South West Nigeria

Download or read book Entrepreneurial Orientation of Graduate Students in the University of Ibadan South West Nigeria written by Ajibola Omoarebun and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2014 in the subject Sociology - Work, Education, Organisation, grade: 5.0 (A), University of Ibadan, language: English, abstract: Graduate unemployment in Nigeria is a chief cause of many social problems such as fraud, armed robbery and so on. Among the several reasons social researchers have listed as contributing factors to graduate unemployment, a lack of comprehensive curricula in the higher institutions has been pin-pointed to be crucial to the malaise of graduate unemployment. Entrepreneurship education if imbibed in the curricula of tertiary institutions would instill entrepreneurial behavior in students and graduates, which would further encourage graduates to become self-reliant and employers of labor. This study examined the levels of entrepreneurship orientation among graduate students in the University of Ibadan. The study made use of theories of planned behaviour and creativity and innovation theories. The sample was made up of 270 graduate students randomly drawn from six faculties of the University of Ibadan. Qualitative and quantitative data for the study were collected through the use of questionnaires and in-depth oral interviews. The result showed that majority of the respondents (78%) had never been exposed to entrepreneurship education upon the completion of their first degree. More than half of the respondents (55.6%) rated their level of entrepreneurial orientation as high, 31.4% rated it as moderate and the remaining 13.0% rated it as low. The paper asserts that graduate students are willing to become entrepreneurs if exposed to active entrepreneurship education - as they are cognizant of the benefits of being self-reliant and independent of the labor market.

Book Attitudinal and Motivational Determinants of Entrepreneurial Intentions Among University Students in Yemen

Download or read book Attitudinal and Motivational Determinants of Entrepreneurial Intentions Among University Students in Yemen written by Ibrahim Hizam Ali Al-Jubari and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unemployment, especially among young people, represents a huge challenge not only at the nations, but at the international level as well. Entrepreneurship is regarded as a panacea that can reduce, if not eradicate, the burden of unemployment on individuals and nations as a whole. It has been established that becoming an entrepreneur is an intentional decision that requires intensive cognitive processing and planning. Therefore, it is critically important to understand what motivates people, especially the young, to develop positive attitudes that foster intentions to be entrepreneurs. The main objective of the present study is to integrate Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to better understand motivation, attitudes and entrepreneurial intention of youth. Specifically, it aims at testing the motivational sequence in which Basic Psychological Needs constructs from SDT influence entrepreneurial intention directly and indirectly through the attitudinal constructs from TPB. Further, the study aims at examining the moderation role that gender may play in the relationship between attitudinal factors and entrepreneurial intention. Data were obtained from 622 final year university students representing several study disciplines at two universities in Yemen. Standardized instruments were employed to measure SDT constructs, namely autonomy, competence and relatedness, and TPB constructs, namely attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and entrepreneurial intention. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized model and structural relationships. The findings suggest that firstly: autonomy and competence need fulfilment influenced entrepreneurial intention in unmediated structural model. Secondly, the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and SDT constructs was fully mediated by the attitudinal constructs of TPB. Finally, gender did not play a moderation role between the attitudinal factors and entrepreneurial intention. The contribution of the present study lies in the integration of SDT and TPB, which offers a deeper understanding of the motivational process of students to start their own businesses. SDT and TPB are complementary as SDT constructs explain the origins of TPB. The attitudinal determinants operate as proximal antecedents of intention and motivational determinants operate as distal predictors of entrepreneurial intention through the attitudinal determinants. This provides evidence for the proposed motivational sequence. It is recommended that future research should build upon the current model and consider investigating the link between entrepreneurial intention and behaviour.

Download or read book Influence of Demographic Factors on the Entrepreneurial Intentions of University Students in Oman written by Mohammed Ahmar Uddin and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper aims to examine the relationship of four critical demographic factors namely Father's occupation, Gender, Experience and Level of education on the entrepreneurial intention of Omani university students. The study uses a structured questionnaire to conduct a survey which is administered to the students of Dhofar University. The data collected are analyzed and it is found that there is a high level of intentions among students to start entrepreneurial ventures. Moreover, demographic factors are found to be influencing the entrepreneurial intention. Among the demographic factors experience is found to have the maximum influence on the entrepreneurial interest. The results suggest a need to provide students with on job training for gaining experience along with their educational programs. As an increase in experience will lead to a higher entrepreneurial intention of students and thus the likely hood of a student becoming an entrepreneur will increase. Furthermore, universities and government should promote entrepreneurship training programs taking into account the Father's occupation, Gender, Experience and Education Levels of students.
