Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The collection is a delight. What I especially like are its sprightly juxtapositions -- every poem that follows every other poem strikes a different note -- surprises by its sudden shifts & differences in tone & content. It really gives a marvelous sense of the poet's diversity. "By Happenstance Together" could almost be its title. "It really is a joy. It bursts with pleasures." Guy Kettelhack, poet, author, artist, violinist

Book The Alluring Brightness of His Glory

Download or read book The Alluring Brightness of His Glory written by R. L. Coursey and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-12-29 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real problem of the hour is not that we view our problems as insurmountable, nor that we fail to view our God as insuperable in the midst of all these problems, but primarily that we fail to count our God as inestimable, even above our need to solve all of these problems. It is the failure to perceive the supreme glory of Christ that moves the church to promote counterfeit offers that compete with His glory, and moves men to receive a counterfeit Christ, whose highest value consists not of His own excellency, but of His willingness to bestow upon us that which our earthly, carnal and temporal nature counts most excellent. This magnetic pull of the world upon our affections will only cease by a God-ward attraction. It is in the face of Jesus Christ that the brightness of the glory of God shines forth. He alone is the brightness of His glory. And unless we exalt Him to preeminence, we know nothing of that glory.

Book Without a Flock

Book excerpt: In the free church tradition, the pastoral prayer has long assumed an important place in the worship of the congregation. It is expected that the pastor will have a more or less extended prayer pertinent to the day and/or to the run of the service in general. Under the circumstances of normal practice, these would involve awareness of a congregation, or a "flock" for a pastor to tend. After ending a normal pastorate and entering retirement and the far more occasional happenstance of entering a pulpit as a guest, the regular preparation for a worship-leading practice became desirable, personally. As a part of that preparation, most often without entering the leadership of worship, least of all as pastor, the pastoral prayer was prepared. This book collects eleven years worth of pastoral prayers, linked to the preaching text of the day by way of the sermon prepared. As there is no flock as reference point, these are, indeed, "Without A Flock".

Book The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

Download or read book The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians written by William Flewelling and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible studies I chose to do came about in answer to the request from my first congregation out of seminary. I consistently sought to present a serious, somewhat scholarly approach to the interest among my parishioners. I would take a book in the Bible to study, assume it was written or edited to be read from the beginning, and make sense to the reader in that format. I attempted to discover for myself and my group what the book sought to convey. In this volume, the study of 1 Corinthians (198283) followed that pattern exactly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible studies I chose to do in answer to the request of my first congregation out of seminary sought to present a serious, somewhat-scholarly approach to the interested among my parishioners. In every case, I took a book to study, assuming that it was written to be read from the beginning, and to make sense to the reader in that format. I was most interested in finding what the author or compiler or editor, as the case may be, sought to convey. I have found the studies of value to me personally and professionally and felt that they were generally well received as I led them. Revisiting these studies now finds them again of fresh value to me. I hope they prove to be so for you as well.

Book To Haunt the Clever Sheer of Grace

Download or read book To Haunt the Clever Sheer of Grace written by William Flewelling and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-05-20 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faces and actions of people and animals, the flair of nature, and the subtleties of interaction, the way life arrives for me to observe and live, to hear and sense, to engage, that is what spawns my poetry. Those poems selected and chosen from my past, with a few more contemporary in their lure to me and my pencil, are drawn together in this collection as a sampler of my engagement with life. I hope you find them engaging and inviting, that you may entertain the actions of the poem as it writes itself upon your mind, creating there your own experience of life, readying for the open engagement with what life directly brings to bear upon you.
