La causa fundamental de esa universal presencia hay que buscarla en que las matemáticas constituyen un idioma "poderoso, conciso y sin ambigüedades". Ese idioma se pretende que sea aprendido por nuestros alumnos, hasta conseguir que lo "hablen". En el caso del idioma matemático, una de las técnicas fundamentales de comunicación son los métodos de Resolución de Problemas. La resolución de problemas es considerada en la actualidad la parte más esencial de la educación matemática. Mediante la resolución de problemas, los estudiantes experimentan la potencia y utilidad de las Matemáticas en el mundo que les rodea.
