Book excerpt: "Enrichment of the Self and Soul: Principle of Life, Cradle of the Soul" This book shows how people in other disciplines and walks of life have enhanced and enriched their self and soul to become more successful, spiritual, and satisfied in life and how you can do the same. As humans we often become trapped in circumstances where we are unable to discover or change our genuine selves. This is a matter that must be resolved at all costs, Richard J. Choura's Enrichment of the Self and Soul presents new insights for improving yourself and soul by bringing together spiritual thought and aesthetic vision with the holy, cultural, and scientific realms of knowledge. It uncovers sources of inner abilities and outgrowths such as sacredness, symbols, epiphanies, and cosmic thinking, all of which have the potential to alter our view and enhance our level of spiritual awareness. It is remarkable in that it holds the spark of life. It broadens our personal and spiritual vision. And fills the voids of human life with light.' as they say. This compelling book equips the reader with the capacity to harness the self in conjunction with spirituality in order to discover a deeper purpose in life that they have been searching for in spirituality. So, if you are yearning for a more profound spiritual meaning, this inspirational and influential book is the one you have been longing for.

Book The Self The Soul and The World Affect Reason and Complexity

Download or read book The Self The Soul and The World Affect Reason and Complexity written by Avijit Lahiri and published by Avijit Lahiri. This book was released on 2023-10-14 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the affective-cognitive roots of how the human mind inquires into the workings of nature and, more generally, how the mind confronts reality. Reality is an infinitely complex system, in virtue of which the mind can comprehend it only in bits and pieces, by making up interpretations of the myriads of signals received from the world by way of integrating those with information stored from the past. This constitutes a piecemeal interpretation by which we assemble our phenomenal reality. In perceiving the complex world and responding to it, the mind invokes the logic of affect and the logic of reason, the former mostly innate and implicit, and the latter generated consciously in explicit terms with reference to mind-independent relations between entities in nature. It is a strange combination of affect and reason that enables us to make decisions and inferences, --- the latter mostly of the inductive type --- thereby making possible the development of theories. Theories are our tool-kits for explaining and predicting phenomena, guiding us along in our journey in life. Theories, however, are defeasible, and need to be constantly updated, at times even radically. In this, the self and the soul are of enormous relevance. The former is the affect-based psychological engine driving all our mental processes, while the latter is the capacity of the conscious mind to examine and reconstruct the self by modulating repressed conflicts. If the soul remains inoperative, all our theories become misdirected and a rot spreads inexorably all around us.

Book Soul on the Couch

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles Spezzano
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2013-06-17
  • ISBN : 1135060649
  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Soul on the Couch written by Charles Spezzano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since Freud put religion on the couch in "The Future of an Illusion," there has been an uneasy peace, with occasional skirmishes, between these two great disciplines of subjectivity. As prime meaning givers, God and the unconscious have vied for supremacy in our thinking about ourselves, especially our thinking about our human nature, our moral stature, and our destiny. Freud, in his bold manner, found projection, fear, and denial to be the wellspring of religion's domination over man. In analogous fashion, those giving primacy to the soul over the unconscious have long dismissed psychoanalysis as mechanistic, reductionistic, and hence inadequate to the examination of spirituality. Soul on the Couch is premised on the belief that discourse about the soul and discourse from the couch can inform, and not simply ignore, one another. It brings together scholars and psychoanalysts at the forefront of an interdisciplinary dialogue that is vitally important to the growth of both disciplines. Their essays are not only models of reflective inquiry; they also illuminate the syntheses that emerge when analysts and scholars of religion bridge the gap that has long separated them and speak to one another.

Book Technology and the Soul

Download or read book Technology and the Soul written by Wolfgang Giegerich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-13 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. G. Jung famously declared that it is not the psyche that is in us, but rather we who are in the psyche. Updating this insight, the second volume of Wolfgang Giegerich’s Collected English Papers examines what must be regarded as the most all-encompassing presence of our lives today: technological civilization. Living within technology, we now find that what we had formerly regarded as psychological phenomena—our feelings and emotions, images and dreams—have been superseded by phenomena bearing the predicates "artificial," "manufactured," and "virtual." Television, the World Wide Web, and the nuclear bomb are cases in point. Far from being mere things among things, each of these has transformed the whole of man’s world-relation. Though deplored by many as soulless on this account, these phenomena, it may be argued, are the real gods, the real archetypes, of the soul today. Psychologically it is not what we think and feel about them that counts, but what they think, what they feel.

Book Soul Springs

Download or read book Soul Springs written by Lotus Linton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-08 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is the harbinger of the Age of Aquarius called the Waterbearer? Could it be that the true Grail of the spiritual quest is not so much a cup, but the water within it? Soul Springs: Seeking Self in the Waters of the World, tells of a uniquely female spiritual journey that has taken the form of a water quest on several continents. Searching for truth within many cultures and landscapes, the author was irresistibly drawn to watery places. She discovered that water is universally understood to be a feminine element. Soul Springs is a collection of vignettes revealing spiritual insights gained at the brink of water—at a goddess well in Cornwall, in the Grand Canyon, or at a temple by the sea in Bali. Each story is titled with a familiar religious term, such as "Blessing," "Communion" or "Grace," and evolves into a distinctly feminine, sometimes unorthodox, perspective as revealed to the author by her inner voice. Soul Springs appeals to the inner gnosis that is available to each woman, the liquid light of her own Soul’s wisdom.

Book excerpt: 'Vast in its intellectual scope, it should induce not so much sleep as controversy, whether literary or scientific, philosophical or political. It skims the oceans of academe in a manner accessible to the educated public, informed and cogently argued, stylistically dense...' - Sandra Goldbeck-Wood, British Medical Journal `Tallis can, and frequently does, write extremely well. He also writes with considerable passion...Raymond Tallis, is perhaps best seen as an exceptionally interesting and broad-minded heir to Huxley, preaching the cause of the Church Scientific.' - Richard Webster, Times Literary Supplement Reviews of Not Saussure and The Explicit Animal: Not Saussure - 'I greatly enjoyed it...' - Bernard Bergonzi 'The Explicit Animal - '...his books are genuine contributions to professional debate...' - Stephen R.L. Clarke, Times Literary Supplement Newton's Sleep examines the complementary roles of science and art in human life. Science has been criticised for being at best useful but spiritually derelict, and art for attempting to answer the spiritual needs of humankind while ignoring the material needs of millions who live in want. Newton's Sleep deals with the charges that science is spiritually empty and that art fails in its civilising mission by relating these aspects of human culture to the physical and metaphysical hungers of an explicit animal who lives in both the Kingdom of Means and the Kingdom of Ends. 'Tallis can, and frequently does, write extremely well. He also writes with considerable passion...Tallis...is perhaps best seen as an exceptionally interesting and broad-minded heir to Huxley, preaching the cause of the Church Scientific...' Download or read book Reinventing the Soul written by Mari Ruti and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2006-08-17 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential reading for scholars and students in critical theory, psychoanalysis, and gender studies. How does the self care for itself in the posthumanist era? What psychic processes might allow the postmodern subject to find meaning and value in its life? Is it possible to delineate a theory of psychic potentiality that is compatible with poststructuralist models of fluid, decentered, and polyvalent subjectivity? Reinventing the Soul offers a new perspective on what it means to be a human being and to strive in the world despite the wounding effects of the socialization process. Drawing on the rich legacies of French poststructuralism and Lacanian psychoanalysis, Ruti builds an affirmative alternative to the post-Foucaultian tendency to envision subjectivity as a function of hegemonic systems of power. She proposes that the subject's encounter with the world also necessarily activates the psyche's innovative potential. By focusing on matters of creative agency, imaginative empowerment, inner metamorphosis, and self-actualization, Ruti outlines some of the mechanisms by which the psyche manages not only to survive its lack, alienation, or suffering, but also to transform its abjection into an existentially livable reality. Central to Ruti's argument is the idea that human beings relate to the world in active rather than merely passive ways—as dynamic creators of meaning rather than as powerless dupes of disciplinary power.
