Book The Top Ten Myths of Enlightenment Exposing the Truth about Spiritual Enlightenment That Will Set You Free

Download or read book The Top Ten Myths of Enlightenment Exposing the Truth about Spiritual Enlightenment That Will Set You Free written by S. F. Howe and published by Diamond Star Press. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No word triggers more controversy than 'enlightenment, ' yet everyone thinks they know what it means-a perfect state of being-and what it looks like-an Indian man in a loincloth, with a staff and long white beard. Most assume they themselves are not enlightened, that it is something they would have to work very hard for a very long time to achieve, that the likelihood of success is comparable to winning the lottery, and that no one else, other than certain Indian gurus, is enlightened either, nor could they possibly, short of a miracle, ever be. Because Westerners tend to view enlightenment in acquisitive terms, and the truth about enlightenment is rarely, if ever, told, false beliefs abound, creating a nearly impenetrable barrier to understanding what enlightenment really is. Without this understanding, many seekers spend a lifetime on the road to a dead end, consoling themselves with the illusion of "spiritual growth." So many myths accompany the concept of enlightenment, that in order to comprehend what enlightenment really is, you first need to understand what it is not. In the ten chapters of this book, we will explore the top ten myths of enlightenment. This book is essential reading for every spiritual seeker. It tells you what no one else dares to reveal about the spiritual journey, and empowers you to make more informed decisions in your pursuit of spiritual development. By the end of this book, you will have expanded your understanding of what it takes to become enlightened, what it looks like in practice and how it affects your life. You will discover that enlightenment is only a thought away for those who resonate to its call. Scroll up ... and click on "Add to Cart" to order "The Top 10 Myths Of Enlightenment" right now!

Book excerpt: This book is a thorough and critical, comparative analysis of the logic of modern scientific thought and of traditional teachings generally referred to as mythological and mystical. Different rationalities with different domains of interest and legitimacy exist, which should not be confused and cannot be unified in any theory of "Ultimate Reality." Atlan suggests they must coexist in practice, although each of them presents itself as an exclusive and all-encompassing truth. The book introduces teachings from Jewish talmudic, midrashic, and kabbalist sources and text from Zen and Taoism to exemplify the kind of rationality or controlled irrationality at work in such traditional thinking.

Book Myths of Enlightenment and the End of Becoming

Download or read book Myths of Enlightenment and the End of Becoming written by Roy Melvyn and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often said that Understanding is everything. Understanding, unapplied, is not enough. To have understanding while living as if one is a mere body/mind in a world, changes nothing. Understanding must be applied. One must be the Understanding. In that context, the truth is that the author really has no information for anyone. What he continues to say in many different ways is simply that what you believe isn't so. Investigate that fully and you'll see that de-energizing mental projections and assumptions, and not enhanced understanding, is all that is needed.

Book The Myth of Enlightenment

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you meet Karl Renz in person or through this book, the encounter will leave you with a radically different sense of yourself. Karl's unique ability lies in exposing the beliefs we've built our lives on, beginning with our root sense of individuality. Our current predicament is the result of believing ourselves to be something other than what we really are. This self-imposed limitation causes our incessant searching and suffering.Throughout these dialogues Karl unceasingly brings us back to the truth of our real nature by helping us recognize the fleeting and impermanent nature of the self we've come to believe in. Even momentarily seeing the truth of who we really are immediately frees us, if only temporarily, from these self-imposed limitations.Karl's purpose-if we can say he even has one-is to reflect our own divinity, which he skillfully and uncompromisingly expresses throughout the pages of this book. By realizing the implication of his words, we can live life to its fullest and experience the boundless freedom that is our essence. Book The Enlightenment and religion

Download or read book The Enlightenment and religion written by S. J. Barnett and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. This book offers a critical survey of religious change and its causes in eighteenth-century Europe, and constitutes a challenge to the accepted views in traditional Enlightenment studies. Focusing on Enlightenment Italy, France and England, it illustrates how the canonical view of eighteenth-century religious change has in reality been constructed upon scant evidence and assumption, in particular the idea that the thought of the enlightened led to modernity. For, despite a lack of evidence, one of the fundamental assumptions of Enlightenment studies has been the assertion that there was a vibrant Deist movement which formed the “intellectual solvent” of the eighteenth century. The central claim of this book is that the immense ideological appeal of the traditional birth-of-modernity myth has meant that the actual lack of Deists has been glossed over, and a quite misleading historical view has become entrenched.

The twenty-one Part III essays, which apply myth criticism to individual literary works or authors, afford a representative sampling of the mythopoeic patterns discerned in literature from Home to Faulkner. Download or read book Culture of Enlightening written by Jeffrey D. Burson and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent scholarly and popular attempts to define the Enlightenment, account for its diversity, and evaluate its historical significance suffer from a surprising lack of consensus at a time when the social and political challenges of today cry out for a more comprehensive and serviceable understanding of its importance. This book argues that regnant notions of the Enlightenment, the Radical Enlightenment, and the multitude of regional and religious enlightenments proposed by scholars all share an entangled intellectual genealogy rooted in a broader revolutionary "culture of enlightening" that took shape over the long-arc of intellectual history from the waning of the sixteenth-century Reformations to the dawn of the Atlantic Revolutionary era. Generated in competition for a changing readership and forged in dialog and conflict, dynamic and diverse notions of what it meant to be enlightened constituted a broader culture of enlightening from which the more familiar strains of the Enlightenment emerged, often ironically and accidentally, from originally religious impulses and theological questioning. By adapting, for the first time, methodological insights from the scholarship of historical entanglement (l'histoire croisée) to the study of the Enlightenment, this book provides a new interpretation of the European republic of letters from the late 1600s through the 1700s by focusing on the lived experience of the long-neglected Catholic theologian, historian, and contributor to Diderot's Encyclopédie, Abbé Claude Yvon. The ambivalent historical memory of Yvon, as well as the eclectic and global array of his sources and endeavors, Burson argues, can serve as a gauge for evaluating historical transformations in the surprisingly diverse ways in which eighteenth-century individuals spoke about enlightening human reason, religion, and society. Ultimately, Burson provocatively claims that even the most radical fruits of the Enlightenment can be understood as the unintended offspring of a revolution in theology and the cultural history of religious experience.

Download or read book Why Buddhism is True written by Robert Wright and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From one of America’s most brilliant writers, a New York Times bestselling journey through psychology, philosophy, and lots of meditation to show how Buddhism holds the key to moral clarity and enduring happiness. At the heart of Buddhism is a simple claim: The reason we suffer—and the reason we make other people suffer—is that we don’t see the world clearly. At the heart of Buddhist meditative practice is a radical promise: We can learn to see the world, including ourselves, more clearly and so gain a deep and morally valid happiness. In this “sublime” (The New Yorker), pathbreaking book, Robert Wright shows how taking this promise seriously can change your life—how it can loosen the grip of anxiety, regret, and hatred, and how it can deepen your appreciation of beauty and of other people. He also shows why this transformation works, drawing on the latest in neuroscience and psychology, and armed with an acute understanding of human evolution. This book is the culmination of a personal journey that began with Wright’s landmark book on evolutionary psychology, The Moral Animal, and deepened as he immersed himself in meditative practice and conversed with some of the world’s most skilled meditators. The result is a story that is “provocative, informative and...deeply rewarding” (The New York Times Book Review), and as entertaining as it is illuminating. Written with the wit, clarity, and grace for which Wright is famous, Why Buddhism Is True lays the foundation for a spiritual life in a secular age and shows how, in a time of technological distraction and social division, we can save ourselves from ourselves, both as individuals and as a species.
