Book Enlightenment Pie

Download or read book Enlightenment Pie written by Lisa M. Gunshore and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems that everywhere we look these days, we see more and more people carrying weight. To someone on the outside, they may only see the unhealthy side effects of poor diet and pass judgements on the person’s ability to care for themselves. What may not be seen is the deep layers of emotional baggage that this person is carrying and their lack of self-love that ultimately affects their choices when caring or ultimately not caring for themselves. The baggage is really layering what we have acquired throughout this lifetime and others, and it has manifested into physical weight that we carry in our bodies, emotional weight, and spiritual weight in the form of karma. The purpose of this book is to teach you how to release this weight from your spirit, mind, and body. I have learned from my own experience that to truly lose weight, we must complete the inner work of all the aspects of our lives. By looking at those difficult pieces of ourselves that is our weight, we bring to the surface many destructive emotions. By working through these emotions and facing them, rather than stuffing them away, we are able to overcome this weight once and for all. This book is not really about changing your diet but, instead, is about transforming all aspects of yourself and changing your life!

Download or read book The Enlightenment Pie Food Journal written by Lisa M Gunshore and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-02-28 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems everywhere we look these days; we see more and more people carrying weight. To someone on the outside they may only see the unhealthy side effects of poor diet and pass judgements on the person’s ability to care for themselves. What may not be seen is the deep layers of emotional baggage that this person is carrying and their lack of Self Love that ultimately affects their choices when caring or ultimately ‘not caring’ for themselves. The baggage is really layering that we have acquired throughout this lifetime and others and it has manifested into; physical weight that we carry in our bodies, emotional weight, and spiritual weight in the form of karma. The Enlightenment Pie Food journal has been created to serve as a workbook in conjunction with Enlightenment Pie. This journal represents step one of the Enlightenment Pie process; become aware. To become aware is to practice mindfulness, learn how to be mindful of both your physical body and your emotional body in relation to your food choices and your weight, and to learn basic meditation and contemplative practices to help you move through your inner work with ease and apply your learnings in your daily life. This journal gives you space to write down your thoughts that come from the self-inquiry questions and contemplative practices throughout the book. Included are short recaps of the activities from Enlightenment Pie to help guide you through the journal and answer the tough questions throughout. At the back of the journal you have thirty food sensitivity tracking templates. This allows you to track how your food and your emotions are impacting you throughout a thirty-day time period. Enlightenment Pie is a process to teach you how to release weight from your Spirit, mind and body. I have learned from my own experience that to truly ‘lose weight’ we must complete the inner work in ALL aspects of our lives. By looking at those difficult pieces of ourselves that is our weight; we bring to the surface many destructive emotions. By working through these emotions and facing them - rather than ‘stuffing them away’; we are able to overcome this weight once and for all. This journal is not really about changing your diet but instead transforming all aspects of your Self and changing your life!In this journal I outline the process of completing inner work to heal the baggage that is affecting your weight:1.Meditation – Learn the basics of meditation to help you move through your inner work with ease and how to incorporate practice into your daily life. Practice mindfulness. Learn how to be mindful of both your physical body and your emotional body in relation to your food choices and your weight. Begin to build a relationship with your physical body and be able to listen and understand its needs.2.Journaling – Learn how to utilize journaling and self-inquiry to come to the root block of your body and yourself. Practice self-inquiry through the exercises in the journal. 3.Food Sensitivity Tracking Template - Learn how to begin the process of managing your food allergies and how your emotional state can affect your food choices

Here a master historian goes back to the sources to give us both a more sophisticated and intriguing view of the philosophes, their world and their ideas.

Download or read book American Enlightenments written by Caroline Winterer and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A provocative reassessment of the concept of an American golden age of European-born reason and intellectual curiosity in the years following the Revolutionary War The accepted myth of the “American Enlightenment” suggests that the rejection of monarchy and establishment of a new republic in the United States in the eighteenth century was the realization of utopian philosophies born in the intellectual salons of Europe and radiating outward to the New World. In this revelatory work, Stanford historian Caroline Winterer argues that a national mythology of a unitary, patriotic era of enlightenment in America was created during the Cold War to act as a shield against the threat of totalitarianism, and that Americans followed many paths toward political, religious, scientific, and artistic enlightenment in the 1700s that were influenced by European models in more complex ways than commonly thought. Winterer’s book strips away our modern inventions of the American national past, exploring which of our ideas and ideals are truly rooted in the eighteenth century and which are inventions and mystifications of more recent times.

Book The Dixie Limited

Download or read book The Dixie Limited written by M. Thomas Inge and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flannery O'Connor once noted, “The presence alone of Faulkner in our midst makes a great difference in what the writer can and cannot permit himself to do. Nobody wants his mule and wagon stalled on the same track the Dixie Limited is roaring down.” Her railroading metaphor wittily captures much of the respect and unease Faulkner's example brought the worldwide community of authors. Few other writers have exerted as profound an influence on literature as Faulkner. Prominent literary scholar M. Thomas Inge documents the scope of his influence in the twentieth century through the words of those writers themselves. This collection of essays offers a survey attempting to capture exactly what Faulkner meant to his literary peers and colleagues both in the United States and abroad. Inge has combed essays, articles, reviews, letters, and comments written by over forty novelists, poets, and playwrights about Faulkner's fiction and the power of his literary accomplishment. Many major American writers sound off here, as well as important figures from France, England, Japan, and South America. Some speak about his technical virtuosity and how this expertise has directly influenced them, and others express the difficulties of trying to escape his example. A few even criticize him for what they see as artistic failures. The variety of responses demonstrate, in any case, that Faulkner created an unavoidable power in his own time and remains a permanent force in literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the reader on an enchanting journey into the lives of fourteen genius scientists who lived during the enlightenment period to the mid-twentieth century. They suffered ethnic, gender, sexual prejudices, cultural and religious taboos, poverty, and epidemics. Most lived a very short life. And yet, their intuition and perseverance prevailed, and their pioneering discoveries changed the world. Their tragic lives faded away over time. However, the fruits of their work, including computer and nuclear technologies, space science, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering, have shaped our lives. When we look back, their inspirational life stories appear more fictional than real. Each story takes the reader into varying times, places, customs, and environments. The book should interest not only a science nerd but also an armchair reader who loves fiction.

Book Humble Pie

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anne Dimock
  • Publisher : Andrews McMeel Publishing
  • Release : 2005-09
  • ISBN : 0740754653
  • Pages : 179 pages

Download or read book Humble Pie written by Anne Dimock and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2005-09 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In America, pie is a food--and a concept--that carries unusual resonance. In Humble Pie, Anne Dimock offers a delightful combination of memoir, pie quotes, inspiration, recipes, travel writing, and assorted philosophical, cultural, and culinary musings on this powerful yet humble dessert. Anne Dimock grew up in a household where, she notes, "A dearth of good pie was a hardship I never encountered, never knew must be borne up by most folk." When she realized that the decline of the American pie civilization might be a harbinger of even deeper cultural problems, Anne became a woman on a mission to save pie from extinction. Dimock shares her thoughts on the Zen of making pie crust, the politics of pie, judging a man's character according to his pie protocol, state fair pie competitions, the kinship between pie and baseball, and the search for edible pie at roadside diners. Folksy and full of humor, Humble Pie is more than just an evocative journey through a life lived in pie. It is a culinary manifesto for a pie renaissance, inviting readers to take up their rolling pins and revive an endangered slice of American culture. Dimock advises us all to "Roll back the apprehension, the doubt, and enter the childlike state of grace where all things are possible and anything lost can be found again. The pie you seek resides not only in memory and imagination--your next piece of pie begins right here."
