Book excerpt: The Swiss vocational education and training model is at the heart of an unprecedented enthusiasm. Both in Switzerland and abroad, it is praised for its management based on a public-private partnership, for its ability to integrate a large number of young people in beyond mandatory education and, finally, for the quality of the training provided which is in line with the labour market needs. However, these assets may hide the high complexity of this model and the challenges it currently faces and will face in the future. Gathering thirteen chapters from specialists, this book offers a close look at the Swiss vocational education and training model. It provides the factual information and the theoretical tools necessary to understand its complexity and identify its major challenges.

Book The Standing of Vocational Education and the Occupations It Serves

Download or read book The Standing of Vocational Education and the Occupations It Serves written by Stephen Billett and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-21 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses what is, perhaps, the single most important issue for vocational education; its relatively low standing in an era of high aspiration. The work explores the nature, extent and consequences for an educational sector that whilst having an increasingly important role in contemporary societies is seen to be of low standing across both countries with developed and developing economies. Some of the standing is associated with the occupation it serves and this is highlighted in an era of high aspiration by young people and their parents. The consequences are far-reaching. This includes how governments and community view and support vocational education, parents and familiars advise about participation in it and young people’s decision-making associated with their post-school pathways. More than describing this problem, the focus of this collection is how this issue can be redressed through the actions of supra-government agencies, governments, schools in tertiary education institutions, industry and professional bodies and employers. It sets out the quality and extent of societal sentiments in shaping how vocational education and the occupation it serves are projected, across countries, continents and cultures, and offers a range of perspectives and contributions from scholars on how this issue might be redressed. These contributions are drawn together and synthesised into sets of propositions, practices and approaches directed towards governments, schooling and tertiary education institutions, educators, researchers, industry and professional bodies and employers. In this way, the book seeks to provide an authoritative, seminal, comprehensive and central text to understand and respond to this central issue for vocational education.

Book School Dropout and Completion

Download or read book School Dropout and Completion written by Stephen Lamb and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-29 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School dropout remains a persistent and critical issue in many school systems, so much so that it is sometimes referred to as a crisis. Populations across the globe have come to depend on success at school for establishing careers and gaining access to post-school qualifications. Yet large numbers of young people are excluded from the advantages that successful completion of school brings and as a result are subjected to consequences such as higher likelihood of unemployment, lower earnings, greater dependence on welfare and poorer physical health and well-being. Over recent decades, most western nations have stepped up their efforts to reduce drop out and raise school completion rates while maintaining high standards. How school systems have approached this, and how successful they are, varies. This book compares the various approaches by evaluating their impact on rates of dropout and completion. Case studies of national systems are used to highlight the different approaches including institutional arrangements and the various alternative secondary school programs and their outcomes. The evaluation is based on several key questions: What are the main approaches? How do they work? For whom do they work? And, how successful are they in promoting high rates of completion and equivalent outcomes for all? This book examines the nature of the dropout problem in advanced industrialized countries with the goal of developing a broader, international understanding that can feed into public policy to help improve completion rates worldwide.

Book Un enjeu la formation professionnelle continue

Download or read book Un enjeu la formation professionnelle continue written by Michel Méry and published by FeniXX. This book was released on 1974-01-01T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
