Book SME Competitiveness Outlook 2022

Download or read book SME Competitiveness Outlook 2022 written by International Trade Centre and published by United Nations. This book was released on 2022-10-21 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our services sectors are key to an economic transformation. This report calls them ‘connected services. Transport and logistics, financial services, information and communication technologies, and business and professional services contribute directly to economic growth – with an increasing share of output, trade and jobs. These sectors also contribute indirectly, making other firms more competitive by connecting them to global value chains and digital innovations. For example: in regions with high quality connected services, 44% of all companies' export, compared with 19% of firms where the quality of connected services is lower. Connected services spur inclusive growth that is favorable for small businesses, including those led by women and young people. Yet most small firms in developing countries do not access them easily. This report explores the measures that companies, business support organizations and policymakers must take to help connected services flourish – to benefit all firms, foster more prosperous economies and build more inclusive societies.

ITC gained invaluable insights and learned many lessons in supporting SMEs in developing, least developed and transition economies to enhance their competitiveness and to internationalize. The rise of a multi-polar global economy gave way to new trade, market and investment opportunities. A technological revolution transformed the way business is being transacted around the world. The multilateral, regional and bilateral trade regime matured and new governance patterns in international trade emerged in the form of supply chain trade.

Download or read book Strengthening SMEs and Entrepreneurship for Productivity and Inclusive Growth written by OECD and published by Org. for Economic Cooperation & Development. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SMEs that grow have a considerable positive impact on employment creation, innovation, productivity growth and competitiveness. Digital technologies and global value chains offer new opportunities for SMEs to participate in the global economy, innovate and strengthen productivity. Yet SMEs are lagging behind in the digital transition and are disproportionately affected by market failures, trade barriers, policy inefficiencies and the quality of institutions. A cross-cutting approach to SME policy can enhance SME innovation and scale-up, as well as their contributions to inclusive growth. This includes a business environment conducive to risk-taking and experimentation by entrepreneurs, as well as access to entrepreneurship competencies, management and workforce skills, technology, innovation, and networks.

Book Enhancing the Competitiveness of SMEs

Download or read book Enhancing the Competitiveness of SMEs written by and published by UN. This book was released on 2007 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Innovative SMEs play a pivotal role in raising the growth potential of national economies. Even more than large firms, SMEs need to access external sources of information, knowledge, know-how and technologies to build their own innovative capability and to reach their markets. However, most developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region have very fragmented innovation systems and thus their indigenous innovation capacity is very weak. A subnational innovation system (SIS) has been widely recognized as a way to address this issue. A SIS policy focuses on industrial development and enhancing the competitiveness of local enterprises through technology and innovation capacity-building. As part of a project on SIS and technology capacity-building policies, UNESCAP undertook studies on the SIS policy framework and an SME technology capacity-building strategy and organized a regional consultative meeting to discuss such a policy framework. This publication contains two major studies, a number of best practices, case studies and country papers presented at the meeting, and policy recommendations adopted at the meeting." -- provided by publisher.

Book Research Anthology on Small Business Strategies for Success and Survival

Download or read book Research Anthology on Small Business Strategies for Success and Survival written by Management Association, Information Resources and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-06-25 with total page 1496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Running a small business provides opportunity for greater success, increased growth, and potentially the chance to move to the global business arena, yet also much more risk. Small businesses not only have less employment, but also less annual revenue than a regular-sized business. With the growth of large corporations and chain businesses, it has become harder to maintain the survival of a small business. The COVID-19 pandemic has also brought more pressure onto the already unsteady survival of small businesses, due to forced closures, decreased agility, fewer technological innovations, and smaller customer bases. The Research Anthology on Small Business Strategies for Success and Survival offers current strategies for small businesses that can be utilized in order to maintain equal footing during challenging times. With the proper strategies available to small business owners, small businesses could not only survive, but also excel despite the environment that surrounds them. Covering topics including decision management, new supportive technologies, sustainable development, and micro-financing, this text is ideal for small business owners, entrepreneurs, startup companies, family-owned and operated businesses, restaurateurs, local retailers, managers, executives, academicians, researchers, and students.

Using new evidence from ITC databases, this report reveals how standards and regulations are holding SME competitiveness back, but crucially, what SMEs and other stakeholders can do to make standards and regulations work for, and not against, SMEs. Book Sme Competitiveness Outlook 2020

Download or read book Sme Competitiveness Outlook 2020 written by United Nations Publications and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing annual investments in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries by $1 trilling would yield disproportionate dividends in terms of progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also delivering healthy returns for investors. Yet, less than 1% of the tens of trillions of dollars that global asset managers have under management is currently invested in developing country SMEs. This edition of SME Competitiveness Outlook explains how best to scale up private sector investment in developing country SMEs for sustainable development impact. It identifies four main streams through which investors, facilitators and enterprises can form partnerships for sustainable development, and it makes a strong case for investing in small businesses to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Book Surviving Supply Chain Integration

Download or read book Surviving Supply Chain Integration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-03-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The managed flow of goods and information from raw material to final sale also known as a "supply chain" affects everythingâ€"from the U.S. gross domestic product to where you can buy your jeans. The nature of a company's supply chain has a significant effect on its success or failureâ€"as in the success of Dell Computer's make-to-order system and the failure of General Motor's vertical integration during the 1998 United Auto Workers strike. Supply Chain Integration looks at this crucial component of business at a time when product design, manufacture, and delivery are changing radically and globally. This book explores the benefits of continuously improving the relationship between the firm, its suppliers, and its customers to ensure the highest added value. This book identifies the state-of-the-art developments that contribute to the success of vertical tiers of suppliers and relates these developments to the capabilities that small and medium-sized manufacturers must have to be viable participants in this system. Strategies for attaining these capabilities through manufacturing extension centers and other technical assistance providers at the national, state, and local level are suggested. This book identifies action steps for small and medium-sized manufacturersâ€"the "seed corn" of business start-up and developmentâ€"to improve supply chain management. The book examines supply chain models from consultant firms, universities, manufacturers, and associations. Topics include the roles of suppliers and other supply chain participants, the rise of outsourcing, the importance of information management, the natural tension between buyer and seller, sources of assistance to small and medium-sized firms, and a host of other issues. Supply Chain Integration will be of interest to industry policymakers, economists, researchers, business leaders, and forward-thinking executives.
