Book excerpt: During my 50+ years as a practicing Professional Engineer I have presented technical papers at various conferences and in technical publications. Many of these venues have been long since forgotten and most of these papers are no longer retrievable. In my opinion, some of these papers are worthy of preservation, as they have contributed to the advancement of the engineering of balance-of-plant mechanical systems in electric power plants. To remedy this situation, I offer this book containing my older papers. More recently (since about 2012) I have had my papers published by the ASME which required me to surrender copyright, so I cannot include them in this book. However, Appendix A contains a list of those papers which should be available from the ASME in perpetuity.

Book Nuclear Plant Thermodynamics for System and Design Engineers

Download or read book Nuclear Plant Thermodynamics for System and Design Engineers written by Charles F Bowman and published by . This book was released on 2023-01-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chuck Bowman Associates, Inc. has trained hundreds of practicing system and design engineers in the nuclear industry in heat exchanger analysis and thermodynamics. In the past the author has been asked to provide the training material contained in this book for on-site training by others. These requests have been denied for obvious reasons. However, after 50+ years as a practicing Professional Engineer the principal author has retired and now makes this material available at a reasonable cost. The course should be taught by a qualified, experienced mechanical engineer who would be familiar with this material. However, much of the information contained herein is captured in greater detail in the authors' books Thermal Engineering of Nuclear Power Stations - Balance of Plant Systems and Engineering of Power Plant and Industrial Cooling Water Systems, both published by the CRC Press. These books may be viewed as teacher's guide and companions to this material.

Book Operational and Environmental Consequences of Large Industrial Cooling Water Systems

Download or read book Operational and Environmental Consequences of Large Industrial Cooling Water Systems written by Sanjeevi Rajagopal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-06 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of water for industrial purposes is of foremost importance. It is used as a coolant and industrial activities dealing with power generation, steel and iron, paper and pulp and oil require very large amounts of water. The industry, therefore, resorts to large scale abstraction of water from natural water bodies. This water is often treated with chemicals to combat operational problems like biofouling and corrosion. Such withdrawal and subsequent discharge of large amounts of water have the potential to impart significant impact on the recipient water body. The organisms drawn along with the cooling water, as well as those residing at the discharge zone, are subjected to a combination of mechanical, thermal and chemical stress on a continuous basis.

Book Thermal Power Plant Cooling

Download or read book Thermal Power Plant Cooling written by Carey Wayne King and published by American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on engineering fundamentals of water use for cooling needs of thermoelectric, or steam cycle, power plants, along with environmental and economic contexts. Water has historically been abundant and cheap; however, the ever-growing human demands for fresh surface water and groundwater are potentially putting ecosystems at risk. Water demands for energy production and electric generation power plants are part of total water demand. This book contributes important information to aid a broader discussion of integrated water and energy management by providing background, references, and context for water and energy stakeholders specifically on the topic of water for cooling thermal power plants. This book serves as a reference and source of information to power plant owner/operators, water resource managers, energy and environmental regulators, and non-governmental organizations. From power plant owners wanting to know the tradeoffs in environmental impact and economics of cooling towers to water utilities that might want to deliver waste water for reuse for power plant cooling, this book provides a wide array of regulatory and technical discussion to meet the needs of a broad audience.
