Book Systems Engineering for Commercial Aircraft

Download or read book Systems Engineering for Commercial Aircraft written by Scott Jackson and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2015-03-28 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key principle of systems engineering is that an aircraft should be considered as a whole and not as a collection of parts. Another principle is that the requirements for the aircraft and its subsystems emanate from a logical set of organized functions and from economic or customer-oriented requirements as well as the regulatory requirements for certification. The resulting process promises to synthesize and validate the design of aircraft which are higher in quality, better meet customer requirements and are most economical to operate. This book is more of a how and a why guide rather than a what guide. It stresses systems engineering is an integrated technical-managerial process that can be adapted without sacrificing quality in which risk handling and management is a major part. It explains that the systems view applies to both the aircraft and the entire air transport system. The book emphasizes that system engineering is not an added layer of processes on top of the existing design processes; it is the glue that holds all the other processes together. The readership includes the aircraft industry, suppliers and regulatory communities, especially technical, program and procurement managers; systems, design and specialty engineers (human factors, reliability, safety, etc.); students of aeronautical and systems engineering and technical management; and government agencies such as FAA and JAA.

Book Engineers and Management

Download or read book Engineers and Management written by Gloria L. Lee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1992. In an increasingly competitive climate, well-trained, experienced management is vital for establishing the long term future of industry. In response to this need, the number of management training courses have been growing in recent years. However, there is a group of highly skilled professionals who are not always recognized for their management potential. Engineers, often viewed as nothing more than technicians, are a valuable but neglected human resource. Their expertise has helped to generate the recent organizational restructuring throughout the manufacturing industry. This study compares the situation of engineers in Britain with those in other countries. It analyzes the industrial cultures of countries that have developed along very different traditions such as Japan, Germany and Hungary as well as countries like Canada and the US where British traditions have prevailed but where the outcomes are different. Bringing together leading writers on management who have specialist knowledge of the engineering profession, it covers such issues as education, employment and labour relations to show how far engineers are undervalued in British culture. This book should be of interest to undergraduates, MBA students, academics and researchers in management, engineering, new technology, industrial sociology and organizational behaviour.

Book Basics of Civil Engineering

Download or read book Basics of Civil Engineering written by Dr. Mukul Burghate and published by mukul burghate. This book was released on with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering has been an aspect of life since the beginnings of human existence. The earliest practice of civil engineering may have commenced between 4000 and 2000 BC in ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley civilization, and Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq) when humans started to abandon a nomadic existence, creating a need for the construction of shelter. During this time, transportation became increasingly important leading to the development of the wheel and sailing. Civil engineering is the application of physical and scientific principles for solving the problems of society, and its history is intricately linked to advances in the understanding of physics and mathematics throughout history. Because civil engineering is a broad profession, including several specialized sub-disciplines, its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environmental science, mechanics, project management, and other fields. Throughout ancient and medieval history most architectural design and construction was carried out by artisans, such as stonemasons and carpenters, rising to the role of master builder. Knowledge was retained in guilds and seldom supplanted by advances. Structures, roads, and infrastructure that existed were repetitive, and increases in scale were incremental. The purpose of this textbook is to present an introduction to the subject of Basics of Civil Engineering of Bachelor of Engineering ( BE) Semester - I. The book contains the syllabus from basics of the subjects going into the intricacies of the subjects. Students are now required to solve minimum Four ( 4 ) Assignments based on the Syllabus. Each topic is followed by Assignment Questions which now forms the compulsory part of internal assessment. All the concepts have been explained with relevant examples and diagrams to make i t interesting for the readers. An attempt is made here by the experts of TMC to assist the students by way of providing Study text as per the curriculum with non - commercial considerations. Book Business Fundamentals for Engineering Managers

Download or read book Business Fundamentals for Engineering Managers written by C.M. Chang and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2014-08-31 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering managers and professionals make a long and lasting impact in the industry by regularly developing technology-based projects, as related to new product development, new service innovation or efficiency-centered process improvement, or both—to create strategic differentiation and operational excellence for their employers. They need certain business fundamentals that enable them to make decisions, based on both technology and business perspectives, leading to new or improved product or service offerings, which are technically feasible, economically viable, marketplace acceptable, and customer enlightening. This book consists of three sets of business fundamentals. The chapter “Cost Accounting and Control” discusses service and product costing, activity-based costing to define overhead expenses, and risk analysis and cost estimation under uncertainty. The chapter “Financial Accounting and Analysis” delineates the key financial statements, financial analyses, balanced scorecard, ratio analysis, and capital asset valuation—including operations, opportunities, and acquisition and mergers. The chapter “Marketing Management” reviews marketing functions, marketing forecasting, marketing segmentation, customers, and other factors affecting marketing in making value-adding contributions. The new business vocabulary and useful analysis tools presented will enable engineering managers to become more effective when interacting with senior management, and to prepare themselves for assuming higher-level corporate responsibilities.
