This book was released on 1987 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meeting opened with a review of current knowledge on the meeting subject arranged in the following sessions: Unsteady Flow and Validation of Empirical Distortion Parameters (3); Computation Technique for Engine/Compressor Performance Predictions of Distorted Inflow (5); Characterization of Distorted Inflow (4); and Experimental Investigations of Engine Instability and Response to Flow Distortion (3). These proceedings contain 16 papers. The meeting was intended to provide scientists and development engineers with a broad information on acceptable inflow distortion parameters to be applied to airframe-intake integration, computation technique for engine/compressor performance prediction of distorted inflow, distortion inflow detection, and experimental investigation of engine instability.

Book Review of Current Knowledge on Engine Response to Distorted Inflow Conditions

Download or read book Review of Current Knowledge on Engine Response to Distorted Inflow Conditions written by D. D. Williams and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews some current aspects of time-variant, spatial total-pressure distortion and other forms such as swirl, static-pressure distortion, planar-wave perturbations of total pressure, and total temperature distortion. Engine response considerations include the influence of engine spool coupling on stability, developments in the modelling of total-pressure circumferential extent effects, and swirl/total-pressure interactions. Guidelines for the formulation of distortion descriptors and performance/stability assessments are reviewed.

Book New Trends in Intake engine Compatibility Assessment

Download or read book New Trends in Intake engine Compatibility Assessment written by F. Aulehla and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measurement of dynamic pressure distortion requires considerable effort in instrumentation and data processing. Reductions in cost can be achieved by simpler methods, examples of which are given. In addition, the relevance of dynamic distortion on intake/engine compatibility has been overestimated as is demonstrated by the experience gained from Tornado where swirl emerged as the decisive compatibility parameter. Also, during the Airbus A300 auxiliary power unit intake development, swirl turned out to be an important criterion. In conclusion, it is argued whether, in many cases, dynamic distortion measurements can be avoided in favour of swirl measurements in combination with simplified methods for dynamic distortion predictions based on steady state measurements and, in some methods, on statistical models.

Book Propulsion and Power

Download or read book Propulsion and Power written by Joachim Kurzke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-28 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is written for engineers and students who wish to address the preliminary design of gas turbine engines, as well as the associated performance calculations, in a practical manner. A basic knowledge of thermodynamics and turbomachinery is a prerequisite for understanding the concepts and ideas described. The book is also intended for teachers as a source of information for lecture materials and exercises for their students. It is extensively illustrated with examples and data from real engine cycles, all of which can be reproduced with GasTurb (TM). It discusses the practical application of thermodynamic, aerodynamic and mechanical principles. The authors describe the theoretical background of the simulation elements and the relevant correlations through which they are applied, however they refrain from detailed scientific derivations.

Book New Results in Numerical and Experimental Fluid Mechanics VII

Download or read book New Results in Numerical and Experimental Fluid Mechanics VII written by Andreas Dillmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This volume contains the papers presented at the 16 DGLR/STAB-Symposium held at the Eurogress Aachen and organized by RWTH Aachen University, Germany, November, 3 - 4, 2008. STAB is the German Aerospace Aerodynamics Association, founded towards the end of the 1970's, whereas DGLR is the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt - Lilienthal Oberth e.V.). The mission of STAB is to foster development and acceptance of the discipline “Aerodynamics” in Germany. One of its general guidelines is to concentrate resources and know-how in the involved institutions and to avoid duplication in research work as much as possible. Nowadays, this is more necessary than ever. The experience made in the past makes it easier now, to obtain new knowledge for solving today's and tomorrow's problems. STAB unites German scientists and engineers from universities, research-establishments and industry doing research and project work in numerical and experimental fluid mechanics and aerodynamics for aerospace and other applications. This has always been the basis of numerous common research activities sponsored by different funding agencies. Since 1986 the symposium has taken place at different locations in Germany every two years. In between STAB workshops regularly take place at the DLR in Göttingen.
