Book Criteria for Energy Pricing Policy

Download or read book Criteria for Energy Pricing Policy written by Corazon Siddayao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main part of this volume is composed of papers commissioned for the Energy Pricing Policy Workshop held at Bangkok from 8 to 11 May 1984, co-ordinated by the U nited Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Resource Systems Institute of the East-West Center. The Workshop, which involved high-level policy planners was financially sponsored by several from several Asian developing countries, organizations: the ESCAP Regional Energy Development Programme funded by the United Nations Development Programme; the European Economic Community; the International Labour Organisation; and the International Development Research Centre. Publication of these papers has been supported by funds from the European Economic Community and the United States Agency for International Development. Preparation of the manuscripts for publication was undertaken at the East-West Center, through contribution in kind at the professional, editorial, and support staff levels. out of discussions at the Eighth Session of the The Workshop developed ESCAP Committee on Natural Resources, 27 October to 2 November 1981, where questions on resource pricing in general (as related to energy resources) and sectoral pricing policies for end-users were discussed in the context of demand management. It was recognized that, although much work had been done in the area, policy makers could seldorn obtain analytically supported, yet realistic, guidance concerning energy pricing questions. The emphasis of the Workshop was, therefore, on policy decision-making, and the application of theory to policy formulation in the energy pricing area.

  • Author : Luna Bharati
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2016-08-25
  • ISBN : 1317479475
  • Pages : 452 pages

Download or read book The Ganges River Basin written by Luna Bharati and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ganges is one of the most complex yet fascinating river systems in the world. The basin is characterized by a high degree of heterogeneity from climatic, hydrological, geomorphological, cultural, environmental and socio-economic perspectives. More than 500 million people are directly or indirectly dependent upon the Ganges River Basin, which spans China, Nepal, India and Bangladesh. While there are many books covering one aspect of the Ganges, ranging from hydrology to cultural significance, this book is unique in presenting a comprehensive inter-disciplinary overview of the key issues and challenges facing the region. Contributors from the three main riparian nations assess the status and trends of water resources, including the Himalayas, groundwater, pollution, floods, drought and climate change. They describe livelihood systems in the basin, and the social, economic, geopolitical and institutional constraints, including transboundary disputes, to achieving productive, sustainable and equitable water access. Management of the main water-use sectors and their inter-linkages are reviewed, as well as the sustainability and trade-offs in conservation of natural systems and resource development such as for hydropower or agriculture.

Book Developing Alternative Media Traditions in Nepal

Download or read book Developing Alternative Media Traditions in Nepal written by Michael Wilmore and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nepal's democratic revolution of 1990 awakened the suppressed voices of people throughout the Himalayan nation. Nowhere was this seen and heard more loudly than in the field of the dynamic new media that thrived after these momentous political events. Some of the most remarkable examples of these new media are the community television, radio, and newspapers produced in the town of Tansen, where they thrive far from the political hub of the state in the Kathmandu Valley. Developing Alternative Media Traditions in Nepal examines how these innovative media came about and the many obstacles their producers faced when attempting to speak of and to their own community. The book is based on long-term ethnographic research in Nepal in the mid-1990s and subsequent accounts of the continuing development of Tansen's community media organizations. Michael Wilmore offers a unique perspective on how people in developing nations use mass media. Developing Alternative Media Traditions in Nepal is one of the first full-length, detailed accounts in English of new media developments in Nepal and is suitable for advanced students and researchers of anthropology and media studies. Book Still Not Getting Energy Prices Right A Global and Country Update of Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Download or read book Still Not Getting Energy Prices Right A Global and Country Update of Fossil Fuel Subsidies written by Ian Parry and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a comprehensive global, regional, and country-level update of: (i) efficient fossil fuel prices to reflect their full private and social costs; and (ii) subsidies implied by mispricing fuels. The methodology improves over previous IMF analyses through more sophisticated estimation of costs and impacts of reform. Globally, fossil fuel subsidies were $5.9 trillion in 2020 or about 6.8 percent of GDP, and are expected to rise to 7.4 percent of GDP in 2025. Just 8 percent of the 2020 subsidy reflects undercharging for supply costs (explicit subsidies) and 92 percent for undercharging for environmental costs and foregone consumption taxes (implicit subsidies). Efficient fuel pricing in 2025 would reduce global carbon dioxide emissions 36 percent below baseline levels, which is in line with keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees, while raising revenues worth 3.8 percent of global GDP and preventing 0.9 million local air pollution deaths. Accompanying spreadsheets provide detailed results for 191 countries.
