Book Dilemma of Swedish Energy Policy

Download or read book Dilemma of Swedish Energy Policy written by Ragnar Löfstedt and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of a national referendum in 1980, the Swedish government was committed to phasing-out the country's twelve nuclear reactors, representing 55 percent of the country's electricity production (75 TWh in 1991). This policy decision along with several others has had far reaching effects on the production and consumption of electricity in Sweden, as the only alternatives to replace the lost nuclear capacity are wind power, biomass and energy conservation. Relatively little is known about the potential of additional energy conservation, based on household behaviour changes, to help replace Sweden's nuclear energy capacity. This book addresses that potential. Among the major findings is that people who consider themselves antinuclear were no more likely to report that they engage in two types of important energy conservation behaviours than those who considered themselves pro nuclear and also that it will be difficult to reach the theoretical potential of 10 percent energy savings without a major effort by the Government to encourage household energy conservation.

Book The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance

Download or read book The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance written by Rolf Färe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sweden has a long history of ambitious environmental, energy and climate policy. Due to the large amount of data available it is possible to perform statistically sound analysis and assess long term changes in productivity, efficiency, and technological development. The data at hand together with Sweden’s ambitious energy and climate policy provides a unique opportunity to shed light on pertinent policy issues. The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance answers several key questions: What is the effect of the CO2 tax on environmental performance and profitability of firms? Does including emissions in productivity measurement of the industrial firm matter? Did the introduction of the EU ETS spur technological development in the Swedish industrial firm? What air pollutant is most inhibiting production when regulated? Being aware and learning from the Swedish case can be very relevant for countries that are in the process of shaping their climate policy. This book is of great importance to researchers and policy makers who are interested in environmental economics, industrial economics and climate change.

Book Energy Policies of IEA Countries

Download or read book Energy Policies of IEA Countries written by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and published by Organization for Economic Co-Operation & Developme. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sweden has made progress in recent years towards a more secure, sustainable energy future. The Scandinavian nation already has an almost carbon-free electricity supply and has phased out oil use in residential and power sectors. It is increasingly integrated within the Nordic and Baltic electricity markets, and its joint renewable electricity certificate market with Norway offers a unique model for other countries. Now Sweden must take concrete steps to realise its vision of a fossil-fuel-independent vehicle fleet by 2030 and no net greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. Although Sweden has decided.

Book excerpt: This monograph sets out to describe the evolution of international climate policy since Kyoto, and to analyse the likely consequences of implementing the policies on nations and markets. As an example, impacts on the electricity market in Sweden are considered in some detail. Authors Lars Bergman and Marian Radetzki generated this work from research carried out under the auspices of SNS, Centre for Business and Policy Studies, Stockholm, a leading Swedish think-tank. The rigorous economic analysis this monograph offers is aimed, firstly, at the politicians and civil servants responsible for fo.

Book Energy Policies of IEA Countries Sweden 2019

Download or read book Energy Policies of IEA Countries Sweden 2019 written by Agence internationale de l'énergie and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sweden is leading the way towards a low-carbon society. In recent years, the country has adopted an energy and climate framework with ambitious long‐term and interim goals, including a target of 100% renewable energy in electricity generation by 2040. In this review of Sweden's energy policies, the International Energy Agency (IEA) looks at how the country is managing its energy transition, as well as how this transition affects energy security. Sweden's electricity system - based on nuclear, hydro and a growing share of wind power - is nearly fossil‐free. The country, which is well interconnected with its neighbours, has become a large net exporter of electricity. However, the power sector faces uncertainty from the likely phase‐out of nuclear within the next few decades. The challenge will be to maintain stability while more variable forms of renewable energy enter the system to replace nuclear power. Sweden's energy policies give preference to technology‐neutral measures and market mechanisms, with the aim to reduce emissions in a cost‐effective way. Carbon taxation in particular has been an effective driver of decarbonisation, and Sweden has showed that high environmental taxes can be combined with sustained economic growth. As the electricity and heat supply is largely decarbonised, the main challenge for Sweden is to reduce emissions in the transport sector, which gets special attention in the review. In this report, the IEA provides recommendations for further improvements of Sweden's energy policy to help the country continue to transform its energy sectors in a secure, affordable and environmentally sustainable manner.

Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic approach to legislation and legal practice concerning energy resources and production in Sweden. The book describes the administrative organization, regulatory framework, and relevant case law pertaining to the development, application, and use of such forms of energy as electricity, gas, petroleum, and coal, with attention as needed to the pervasive legal effects of competition law, environmental law, and tax law. A general introduction covers the geography of energy resources, sources and basic principles of energy law, and the relevant governmental institutions. Then follows a detailed description of specific legislation and regulation affecting such factors as documentation, undertakings, facilities, storage, pricing, procurement and sales, transportation, transmission, distribution, and supply of each form of energy. Case law, intergovernmental cooperation agreements, and interactions with environmental, tax, and competition law are explained.

Book Solar Versus Nuclear

Download or read book Solar Versus Nuclear written by Mans Lönnroth and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar Versus Nuclear: Choosing Energy Futures study is an eight-chapter text that studies the long-term implications of Sweden's decisions to explore nuclear energy and other alternative development options. Sweden's high standards of living, energy intensive industries, advanced technology in many fields, strong tradition of electrification and a competent utility organization, abundant reserves of (admittedly low grade) uranium, low population density and a large number of suitable reactor sites, make nuclear energy seemed ideal. Chapter I deals with some different ways of describing and viewing energy, while Chapter 2 analyzes the earlier changes of energy sources in an attempt to describe the relations between the development of society and energy consumption. Chapter 3 is concerned with the durability and other essential characteristics of these energy sources. Chapter 4 discusses two distinct developments, one leads to a Nuclear Sweden with its energy supply based chiefly on uranium and the other to a Solar Sweden based on renewable energy sources. This chapter compares the characteristics and costs of the two alternatives and discusses the possibilities of combining them. Chapter 5 covers the possible developmental tendencies built into the present energy policy, and Chapter 6 looks into the proposals for a conceivable transitional solution for the 1980's, which could reduce the dependence on oil while preserving both the solar and nuclear option as possible alternatives. Chapter 7 discusses the organizational changes in energy conservation and energy production. Lastly, Chapter 8 considers some questions regarding the effect of the energy systems on the long-term development of society.
