Book Dilemma of Swedish Energy Policy

Download or read book Dilemma of Swedish Energy Policy written by Ragnar Löfstedt and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of a national referendum in 1980, the Swedish government was committed to phasing-out the country's twelve nuclear reactors, representing 55 percent of the country's electricity production (75 TWh in 1991). This policy decision along with several others has had far reaching effects on the production and consumption of electricity in Sweden, as the only alternatives to replace the lost nuclear capacity are wind power, biomass and energy conservation. Relatively little is known about the potential of additional energy conservation, based on household behaviour changes, to help replace Sweden's nuclear energy capacity. This book addresses that potential. Among the major findings is that people who consider themselves antinuclear were no more likely to report that they engage in two types of important energy conservation behaviours than those who considered themselves pro nuclear and also that it will be difficult to reach the theoretical potential of 10 percent energy savings without a major effort by the Government to encourage household energy conservation.

Book Solar Versus Nuclear

Download or read book Solar Versus Nuclear written by Mans Lönnroth and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar Versus Nuclear: Choosing Energy Futures study is an eight-chapter text that studies the long-term implications of Sweden's decisions to explore nuclear energy and other alternative development options. Sweden's high standards of living, energy intensive industries, advanced technology in many fields, strong tradition of electrification and a competent utility organization, abundant reserves of (admittedly low grade) uranium, low population density and a large number of suitable reactor sites, make nuclear energy seemed ideal. Chapter I deals with some different ways of describing and viewing energy, while Chapter 2 analyzes the earlier changes of energy sources in an attempt to describe the relations between the development of society and energy consumption. Chapter 3 is concerned with the durability and other essential characteristics of these energy sources. Chapter 4 discusses two distinct developments, one leads to a Nuclear Sweden with its energy supply based chiefly on uranium and the other to a Solar Sweden based on renewable energy sources. This chapter compares the characteristics and costs of the two alternatives and discusses the possibilities of combining them. Chapter 5 covers the possible developmental tendencies built into the present energy policy, and Chapter 6 looks into the proposals for a conceivable transitional solution for the 1980's, which could reduce the dependence on oil while preserving both the solar and nuclear option as possible alternatives. Chapter 7 discusses the organizational changes in energy conservation and energy production. Lastly, Chapter 8 considers some questions regarding the effect of the energy systems on the long-term development of society.

This book was released on 2018-05-14 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall aim of this thesis is to analyze how municipalities support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their work to improve their energy efficiency. The purpose of this study is to increase the current understanding of how the methods and tools used by municipalities to assist SMEs in improving their energy efficiency influence the end results in terms of achieved energy efficiency, and how knowledge related to energy efficiency is created within SMEs. This thesis consists of two separate case studies that examine how two municipalities used a network approach to support SMEs in implementing energy efficient measures. The theoretical frameworks of policy networks, barriers, communities of practice (COPs), and energy efficiency networks were used in this thesis. The findings are presented in the appended four articles. An overall conclusion is that networks that provide information in the form of a report with technological solutions as the only output are less likely to reach the agreed-upon goals. To achieve a more successful result, SMEs must be active in the process; they must be allowed to create knowledge and understanding that they perceive as valuable and relevant for themselves. Another important result is that information is not automatically transformed by SMEs into knowledge. In fact, SMEs need a platform from which they can negotiate the received information and use it to create knowledge through practice and social interaction. Finally, it was found that the type of technological solution is not insignificant; the type of energy efficient measure to be implemented and its level of complexity affect how a municipality should support energy efficiency work among SMEs.
