Book Climate Change Impacts and Mitigation on Wheat System in Pacific Northwest

Download or read book Climate Change Impacts and Mitigation on Wheat System in Pacific Northwest written by Tina Karimi and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results indicated that regional dryland wheat production will increase in the future, but with spatial variation and uncertainty related to future weather projections. Improvement in yield will provide opportunities for intensification of cropping systems and may lead to some reduction of fallow use. Total GHG emissions (nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide from reduced SOC stocks) had a decreasing trend while N2O emissions accounted for a larger portion of total GHG and the relative contribution had an increasing trend toward the 2070s since SOC losses were lower.

Book Generating Electric Power in the Pacific Northwest

Download or read book Generating Electric Power in the Pacific Northwest written by Christopher G. Pernin and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines the implications of using alternative power-generation technologies to meet future energy demands in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It concludes that 20 percent of the new electricity that will be produced by natural-gas-fired generation and by dams on the lower Sanke River could be replaced by a mix of renewable energy and energy efficiency without much impact on the economy.

Book Climate Impacts on Energy Systems

Download or read book Climate Impacts on Energy Systems written by Jane O. Ebinger and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "While the energy sector is a primary target of efforts to arrest and reverse the growth of greenhouse gas emissions and lower the carbon footprint of development, it is also expected to be increasingly affected by unavoidable climate consequences from the damage already induced in the biosphere. Energy services and resources, as well as seasonal demand, will be increasingly affected by changing trends, increasing variability, greater extremes and large inter-annual variations in climate parameters in some regions. All evidence suggests that adaptation is not an optional add-on but an essential reckoning on par with other business risks. Existing energy infrastructure, new infrastructure and future planning need to consider emerging climate conditions and impacts on design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Integrated risk-based planning processes will be critical to address the climate change impacts and harmonize actions within and across sectors. Also, awareness, knowledge, and capacity impede mainstreaming of climate adaptation into the energy sector. However, the formal knowledge base is still nascent?information needs are complex and to a certain extent regionally and sector specific. This report provides an up-to-date compendium of what is known about weather variability and projected climate trends and their impacts on energy service provision and demand. It discusses emerging practices and tools for managing these impacts and integrating climate considerations into planning processes and operational practices in an environment of uncertainty. It focuses on energy sector adaptation, rather than mitigation which is not discussed in this report. This report draws largely on available scientific and peer-reviewed literature in the public domain and takes the perspective of the developing world to the extent possible."

Book Global Energy Assessment

Download or read book Global Energy Assessment written by GEA Writing Team and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Energy Assessment (GEA) brings together over 300 international researchers to provide an independent, scientifically based, integrated and policy-relevant analysis of current and emerging energy issues and options. It has been peer-reviewed anonymously by an additional 200 international experts. The GEA assesses the major global challenges for sustainable development and their linkages to energy; the technologies and resources available for providing energy services; future energy systems that address the major challenges; and the policies and other measures that are needed to realize transformational change toward sustainable energy futures. The GEA goes beyond existing studies on energy issues by presenting a comprehensive and integrated analysis of energy challenges, opportunities and strategies, for developing, industrialized and emerging economies. This volume is an invaluable resource for energy specialists and technologists in all sectors (academia, industry and government) as well as policymakers, development economists and practitioners in international organizations and national governments.
