Book Energy Efficient Geographic Routing for Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Efficient Geographic Routing for Wireless Sensor Networks written by Gang Zhao and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wireless sensor network consists of a large number of low-power nodes equipped with wireless radio. For two nodes not in mutual transmission range, message exchanges need to be relayed through a series of intermediate nodes, which is a process known as multi-hop routing. The design of efficient routing protocols for dynamic network topologies is a crucial for scalable sensor networks. Geographic routing is a recently developed technique that uses locally available position information of nodes to make packet forwarding decisions. This dissertation develops a framework for energy efficient geographic routing. This framework includes a path pruning strategy by exploiting the channel listening capability, an anchor-based routing protocol using anchors to act as relay nodes between source and destination, a geographic multicast algorithm clustering destinations that can share the same next hop, and a lifetime-aware routing algorithm to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks by considering four important factors: PRR (Packet Reception Rate), forwarding history, progress and remaining energy. This dissertation discusses the system design, theoretic analysis, simulation and testbed implementation involved in the aforementioned framework. It is shown that the proposed design significantly improves the routing efficiency in sensor networks over existing geographic routing protocols. The routing methods developed in this dissertation are also applicable to other location-based wireless networks.

Book Energy Efficient Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Efficient Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Rab Nawaz Jadoon and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless sensor network is a network of spatially distributed nodes to monitor certain application specific data. It consists of large number of sensor nodes with one or more base stations. The data is communicated from sensor nodes to the base station either directly or in multihop fashion. Routing is a key challenge in sensor networks, because nodes in the networks are constrained by energy, processing power, and memory. Such motivation drives motivation to design energy efficient routing protocols for sensor networks to prolong network lifetime. In this study i proposed a new multihop routing algorithm named energy efficient protocol using ring zone model (EEPRM). The protocol is simple and does routing decisions based on remaining energy of nodes, and does location based routing without the need for the nodes to know their positions.Simulation-based evaluation of EEPRM in OMNET++ conducted and the protocol is compared against well known protocols including An Address Light Integrated MAC and Routing Protocol for WSN, Flooding and AODV.Simulation results show that EEPRM outperforms AIMRP, AODV, and Flooding in terms of end to end delay, average hop count, and energy efficiency

Book An Efficient Online Battery aware Geographic Routing Algorithm OBGR for Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book An Efficient Online Battery aware Geographic Routing Algorithm OBGR for Wireless Sensor Networks written by Linda Fendi Yaghi and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are being used in a wide variety of critical app lications such as military and healthcare applications. Such networks, which are composed of sensor nodes with limited memory capacity, limited processing capab ilities, and most importantly limited energy supply, require routing protocols t hat take into consideration these constraints. Routing protocols in general must provide a high QOS, minimize the end-to-end delay and assure reliability. With WSNs routing protocols must, in addition to the previous mentioned requirements, attempt to minimize the energy consumption in data processing and communication and maximize the residual power in nodes. The aim of this thesis is to provide an efficient power aware routing algorithm for WSNs that guarantees QOS and at t he same time minimizes energy consumption by calculating the remaining battery c apacity of nodes and taking advantage of the battery recovery process. We presen t an online battery aware geographic routing algorithm (OBGR) in detail together with the online battery model. To show the effectiveness of our approach, we si mulated our algorithm in ns2 and compared it to Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routi ng for Wireless Networks (GPSR) and Battery-Aware Routing for Streaming Data Tra nsmissions in Wireless Sensor Networks (BAR).

Book Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Youcef Touati and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks discusses this unavoidable issue in the application of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). To guarantee efficiency and durability in a network, the science must go beyond hardware solutions and seek alternative software solutions that allow for better data control from the source to delivery. Data transfer must obey different routing protocols, depending on the application type and network architecture. The correct protocol should allow for fluid information flow, as well as optimizing power consumption and resources – a challenge faced by dense networks. The topics covered in this book provide answers to these needs by introducing and exploring computer-based tools and protocol strategies for low power consumption and the implementation of routing mechanisms which include several levels of intervention, ranging from deployment to network operation. Explores ways to manage energy consumption during the design and implementation of WSN Helps users implement an increase in network longevity Presents intrinsic characteristics of wireless sensor networks

Book Energy Efficient Routing for Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Efficient Routing for Wireless Sensor Networks written by Maung Phyo and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have led to many new protocols specifically designed for sensor networks where energy awareness is an essential consideration. Much attention has been given to the routing protocols since they might differ depending on the applications and network architectures. This proposed work, LEACH with Maximum Lifetime Routing, is based on the objective of maximizing the system lifetime. In this algorithm, clusters are formed randomly in each time period. Cluster heads transmit data to base station via multi-hop routing. By comparison with LEACH, LEACH with Maximum Lifetime Routing has better performance in time till first node dies and total dead nodes. Furthermore, nodes die in approximately uniformly distributed locations in LEACH with Maximum Lifetime Routing; there is no one section of the environment that is not being sensed as nodes dies, as occurs in the other algorithms.

Book Localization and Routing Algorithms for Sensor Networks

Download or read book Localization and Routing Algorithms for Sensor Networks written by Hui Qu and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad hoc, rapidly deployed wireless sensor networks require lightweight algorithms due to the simplicity of the sensor nodes. In this work, we consider a wireless sensor network consisting of a single sink node at the center of a field of randomly distributed low-cost sensors. Following the guideline of co-design, we propose a distributed partition-based localization algorithm and a distributed energy-efficient geographic routing algorithm, and evaluate their individual performances as well as joint performance under practical application scenarios. Simulations confirm that our co-design approach achieves desirable performance economically. The proposed approach should be especially useful to professionals in Wireless Sensor Network fields, or anyone else who may be considering utilizing ad hoc, rapidly deployed wireless sensor networks consisting of low-cost sensors.
