Book Energy Efficiency Improvement Strategies for Industrial Boilers

Download or read book Energy Efficiency Improvement Strategies for Industrial Boilers written by Rahul Dev Gupta and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to escalating cost of fuel, there is a felt need to carry out efficiency test to analyse the various heat losses present in boiler, with an aim to identify the major heat losses and causes of poor boiler efficiency. In this book, boiler efficiency improvement study has been carried out in a large boiler of a pulp and paper mill. The causes of poor boiler efficiency were various heat losses like loss due to unburnt carbon in refuse, loss due to dry flue gas, loss due to moisture in fuel, loss due to radiation, loss due to blow down and loss due to burning hydrogen. The various heat loses were analysed and certain recommendations were made to the plant management for implementing, so that efficiency of boiler can be increased. Some of the recommendations made were implemented and it has been seen that there is tremendous increase in boiler efficiency.

Book Improve Your Boiler s Combustion Efficiency

Download or read book Improve Your Boiler s Combustion Efficiency written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operating your boiler with an optimum amount of excess air will minimize heat loss up the stack and improve combustion efficiency. Combustion efficiency is a measure of how effectively the heat content of a fuel is transferred into usable heat. The stack temperature and flue gas oxygen (or carbon dioxide) concentrations are primary indicators of combustion efficiency. Given complete mixing, a precise or stoichiometric amount of air is required to completely react with a given quantity of fuel. In practice, combustion conditions are never ideal, and additional or ''excess'' air must be supplied to completely burn the fuel. The correct amount of excess air is determined from analyzing flue gas oxygen or carbon dioxide concentrations. Inadequate excess air results in unburned combustibles (fuel, soot, smoke, and carbon monoxide) while too much results in heat lost due to the increased flue gas flow--thus lowering the overall boiler fuel-to-steam efficiency. The table relates stack readings to boiler performance. On well-designed natural gas-fired systems, an excess air level of 10% is attainable. An often stated rule of thumb is that boiler efficiency can be increased by 1% for each 15% reduction in excess air or 40 F reduction in stack gas temperature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more and more concern being expressed over the Earth's dwindling energy resources as well as rising pollution levels, the subject of energy management and conservation is becoming increasingly important. Over half of all energy consumed is used in buildings so effective management of buildings whether commercial or domestic is vital. This book is a comprehensive text dealing with the theory and practice of the supply of energy to consumers, energy management and auditing and energy saving technology. It will be a core text on courses on energy management and building services, as well as updating professionals in the building sector.
