Book Energy Education in Institutions of Higher Learning

Download or read book Energy Education in Institutions of Higher Learning written by Ian Wright (Energy literacy educator) and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis argues the need for energy education training in institutions of higher learning. Research was conducted using two approaches: first, from the study and analysis of academic literature; second, from the design and implementation of an energy education program conducted at Utah State University College of Eastern Utah. The findings indicate that there is a definite disconnect in the education of college and university students on the basics of sustainable energy behaviors and technologies. Thesis findings were then used in the development of an energy education training manual development for future energy education programs targeted at college students living in on-campus housing. The desired outcome of this thesis is to develop a culture of sustainability on campuses of colleges and universities in a concerted effort to create more energy-conscious future professionals - no matter the field and career path that they choose to follow."--author's abstract.

Book Teaching and Learning of Energy in K 12 Education

Download or read book Teaching and Learning of Energy in K 12 Education written by Robert F. Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents current thoughts, research, and findings that were presented at a summit focusing on energy as a cross-cutting concept in education, involving scientists, science education researchers and science educators from across the world. The chapters cover four key questions: what should students know about energy, what can we learn from research on teaching and learning about energy, what are the challenges we are currently facing in teaching students this knowledge, and what needs be done to meet these challenges in the future? Energy is one of the most important ideas in all of science and it is useful for predicting and explaining phenomena within every scientific discipline. The challenge for teachers is to respond to recent policies requiring them to teach not only about energy as a disciplinary idea but also about energy as an analytical framework that cuts across disciplines. Teaching energy as a crosscutting concept can equip a new generation of scientists and engineers to think about the latest cross-disciplinary problems, and it requires a new approach to the idea of energy. This book examines the latest challenges of K-12 teaching about energy, including how a comprehensive understanding of energy can be developed. The authors present innovative strategies for learning and teaching about energy, revealing overlapping and diverging views from scientists and science educators. The reader will discover investigations into the learning progression of energy, how understanding of energy can be examined, and proposals for future directions for work in this arena. Science teachers and educators, science education researchers and scientists themselves will all find the discussions and research presented in this book engaging and informative.

Book Sustainable Energy Education in the Arctic

Download or read book Sustainable Energy Education in the Arctic written by Gisele M. Arruda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the nature of the ‘energy curriculum’ in Arctic Higher Education and provides invaluable data and new models to assess levels of Sustainable Development Literacy. Drawing on course mapping conducted in Higher Education institutions across the Arctic, Arruda looks at the nature, structure, and design of the Arctic Higher Education curriculum in order to assess levels of Sustainable Development Literacy and considers the extent to which Arctic Higher Education courses align to UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Using data from four key case studies in Norway, Canada, and the US, and applying a framework drawn from different knowledge systems (Traditional Knowledge and Western educational system), she analyses the different educational approaches and pedagogies used and specifically considers how Higher Education in this region can contribute to the accomplishment of Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. The book concludes by proposing new models to assess Higher Education adherence to ESD and outlines how a culturally inclusive curriculum can invite different groups of people to engage in a meaningful Sustainable Development debate, learning experience, and knowledge application. This innovative volume will be of great interest to multicultural students, scholars, and educators of Sustainable Development, climate change, energy, Arctic studies, and global Higher Education across the Arctic and non-Arctic nations.
