Book Energy Security Cooperation in Northeast Asia

Download or read book Energy Security Cooperation in Northeast Asia written by Bo Kong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on cutting-edge research from leading scholars, this book investigates state preferences for regime creation and assesses state capacity for executing these preferences in Northeast Asia’s energy domain, defined as the geographical area comprising the following countries: Russia, Mongolia, China, Japan, South Korea and North Korea. It examines questions pertaining to how states perceive the need and necessity for establishing a regime when it comes to the issue of energy and how much commitment they make to the effort in Northeast Asia. The book analyses the factors that shape each country’s fundamental energy interests in the region, how these interests impact their attitudes toward engaging the region on energy security and the way they carry out their regional engagement. Based on countries’ interests in promoting institutionalized regional energy cooperation and their capacity for forging that cooperation, the collection assesses each state’s role in contributing to an energy regime in Northeast Asia. It then concludes with a critique on the decade-plus quest for energy security cooperation in Northeast Asia and suggests ways forward for facilitating regional energy security cooperation. This book will be of great interest to scholars and students of environmental policy, energy policy, security studies, Asian studies and international relations.

Book Energy Security in Asia and Eurasia

Download or read book Energy Security in Asia and Eurasia written by Mike M. Mochizuki and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many states appear to have strong sentiment on energy security and energy transit vulnerability. Some analysts see the rapidly increasing demand for energy and competition for energy resources leading to nationalistic energy policies. Others argue that global trends with efficient energy markets and growing options on renewables suggest more relaxed energy outlooks. This book focuses on Asia, where global demand for energy is now concentrated in the aspiring and rising powers of the region: China, India, Japan and South Korea, and also recognises the importance of Russia as a growing energy supplier. Contributions by experts in the field provide detailed and parallel case studies. Shedding light on the ongoing debate in the literature regarding energy outlooks of major Asian states, they analyse whether energy policies are expected to evolve along market oriented cooperative lines or more competitive and even destructive mercantile, nationalist lines. The book argues that states are not unitary actors even in the key energy security arena and there are competing and contrasting viewpoints in Asian states on energy security. It suggests that domestic debates structure thinking on energy security, making energy policy more contingent than assumed by purely market or geopolitical logics. Providing a strong contribution to comparative energy security studies, the book fills an important gap in the literature on energy and national security and offers a basis for conducting further inter-state, interactive analysis. It will be of interest to researchers on Asian Studies, energy politics and international relations.

Book Complexity Security and Civil Society in East Asia

Download or read book Complexity Security and Civil Society in East Asia written by Peter Hayes and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2015-06-22 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complexity, Security and Civil Society in East Asia offers the latest understanding of complex global problems in the region, including nuclear weapons, urban insecurity, energy, and climate change. Detailed case studies of China, North and South Korea, and Japan demonstrate the importance of civil society and ‘civic diplomacy’ in reaching shared solutions to these problems in East Asia and beyond. Each chapter describes regional civil society initiatives that tackle complex challenges to East Asia’s security. In doing so, the book identifies key pressure points at which civil society can push for constructive changes¯especially ones that reduce the North Korean threat to its neighbors. Unusually, this book is both theoretical and practical. Complexity, Security and Civil Society in East Asia presents strategies that can be led by civil society and negotiated by its diplomats to realize peace, security, and sustainability worldwide. It shows that networked civic diplomacy offers solutions to these urgent issues that official ‘complex diplomacy’ cannot. By providing a new theoretical framework based on empirical observation, this volume is a must read for diplomats, scholars, students, journalists, activists, and individual readers seeking insight into how to solve the crucial issues of our time.

Download or read book Study on the Path of Energy Cooperation in Northeast Asia written by Li Wang and published by Paths International Limited. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy cooperation in northeast Asia is proceeding slowly. It is necessary to promote energy cooperation in northeast Asia further to ensure energy security of all countries in the region. In recent years, many changes have taken place in the world energy landscape, bringing new opportunities for energy cooperation in northeast Asia. Firstly, increased oil and gas production in North America has increased Russia's willingness to deepen energy cooperation with northeast Asian countries. Secondly, the low oil price in the world brings opportunities for the construction and cooperation of energy reserves in northeast Asia. Thirdly, the diversification of energy import in northeast Asia is conducive to the construction and cooperation of energy and financial markets in northeast Asia. Fourth, shale oil and gas investment cooperation will be the new content of energy cooperation in northeast Asia. In addition, China's "One Belt And One Road" initiative will also boost the energy cooperation in northeast Asian. Northeast Asian countries should rethink how to promote the energy cooperation in northeast Asian further.

Book Mongolia and Northeast Asian Security

Download or read book Mongolia and Northeast Asian Security written by Alicia J. Campi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assesses Mongolia’s position in the security calculus of Northeast Asia and presents the policy outlooks of major powers vis-a-vis the region, including the United States, Japan, China, Russia, and India. Ground-breaking and modernistic in its approach, the book treats the often marginalised and landlocked small power state of Mongolia as a critical regional actor, particularly with regards to managing ties with encircling major powers Russia and China and assist in engaging the nuclear state of North Korea through dialogue mechanisms. This compilation of chapters by distinguished scholars explores Mongolia in the Northeast Asian geographical space within the context of three major themes: nuclear proliferation, environmental security, and socio-economic and civilisational conflicts. The book provides a multidisciplinary and multinational approach to Mongolia’s role in the region's strategic landscape. It moves the regional security discussion beyond major power politics, North Korea's denuclearisation, and the impasse on the Korean Peninsula to discuss and analyse other underappreciated challenges facing the region. Considering Mongolia’s role in achieving peace and stability in the neighbourhood, the book will be a valuable resource for researchers and readers in International Relations, Political Science, and Asian Studies.
