Book Solving Optimal Growth Models with Vintage Capital the Dynamic Programming Approach

Download or read book Solving Optimal Growth Models with Vintage Capital the Dynamic Programming Approach written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper deals with an endogenous growth model with vintage capital and, more precisely, with the AK model proposed in [R. Boucekkine, O. Licandro, L.A. Puch, F. del Rio, Vintage capital and the dynamics of the AK model, J. Econ. Theory 120 (1) (2005) 39-72]. In endogenous growth models the introduction of vintage capital allows to explain some growth facts but strongly increases the mathematical difficulties. So far, in this approach, the model is studied by the Maximum Principle; here we develop the Dynamic Programming approach to the same problem by obtaining sharper results and we provide more insight about the economic implications of the model. We explicitly find the value function, the closed loop formula that relates capital and investment, the optimal consumption paths and the long run equilibrium. The short run fluctuations of capital and investment and the relations with the standard AK model are analyzed. Finally the applicability to other models is also discussed.

Book Growth Theory in Historical Perspective

Download or read book Growth Theory in Historical Perspective written by Th van de Klundert and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 13 essays demonstrate the development of growth theory since the 1960s. The sequence of chapters reveals the shifts in focus which has occurred since the first formal growth models of the 1940s and 1950s, illustrating the different theories which have led to the contemporary model.

Book The Uzawa Lucas Endogenous Growth Model

Download or read book The Uzawa Lucas Endogenous Growth Model written by Paolo Mattana and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using state of the art mathematical techniques this book provides a complete characterization of the Uzawa-Lucas growth model. In his path-breaking contribution on the 'Mechanics of Economic Growth' Lucas suggested that human capital is the key variable through which technical change is most likely to occur and (by taking some initial intuitions of Uzawa a step further) proposed a two-sector capital accumulation growth model where human capital is allowed to enter a neo-classical-style production structure in multiplicative terms. In this book Paolo Mattana fully explores the dynamic possibilities of the model from both the market and the centralized perspective. A critical evaluation of the inefficiency in the market economy is also provided.

Book Macroeconomic Modelling of R D and Innovation Policies

Download or read book Macroeconomic Modelling of R D and Innovation Policies written by Ufuk Akcigit and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2021-12-03 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book encompasses a collection of in-depth analyses showcasing the challenges and ways forward for macroeconomic modelling of R&D and innovation policies. Based upon the proceedings of the EC-DG JRC-IEA workshop held in Brussels in 2017, it presents cutting-edge contributions from a number of leading economists in the field. It provides a comprehensive overview of the current academic and policy challenges surrounding R&D as well as of the state-of-the-art modelling techniques. The book brings to the forefront outstanding issues related to the assessment of the macroeconomic impact of R&D policies and its modelling. It speaks to the rising importance of R&D and innovation policy, and the proliferation of macroeconomic models featuring endogenous technological change. The contents of this book will be of interest to both academic and policy audiences working in the fields of R&D and innovation.

Book An Overview of Endogenous Growth Models

Download or read book An Overview of Endogenous Growth Models written by Chukwuemeka Onyebuchi Onyimadu and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inability of neoclassical growth model in explaining long run economic growth is due to the existence of diminishing returns in capital. Therefore endogenous growth theory that models long run economic growth through technological transfers is necessitated. By reason of the obvious complex nature of modeling, the paper focuses on the intuition that the Endogenous Growth Model endeavors to capture. Thus, the paper provides to the reader, a non-technical overview and critique of the endogenous growth model, key literature in the study of the mechanism of the model as well as providing important references. The intended audiences are policy makers and analysts, students and optimistically anyone without a great deal of economic training.

Book Endogenous Innovation in the Theory of Growth

Download or read book Endogenous Innovation in the Theory of Growth written by Gene M. Grossman and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper makes the case that purposive, profit-seeking investments in knowledge play a critical role in the long-run growth process. First, we review the implications of neoclassical growth theory and the more recent theories of 'endogenous growth'. Then we discuss the empirical evidence that bears on the modeling of long-run growth. Finally, we describe in more detail a model of growth based on endogenous technological progress and discuss the lessons that such models can teach us.

Book Endogenous Growth in Historical Perspective

Download or read book Endogenous Growth in Historical Perspective written by Ramesh Chandra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, new endogenous growth theory has become popular but the ideas are not new. They go back at least as far as Adam Smith, and the subsequent contributions made notably by Alfred Marshall and Allyn Young. This book critically discusses and provides an historical perspective to the entire spectrum of endogenous growth theories starting with Adam Smith and ending with Paul Romer. It fills an important gap in the literature. While contributions of individual authors are readily available, there is no comprehensive study on the subject covering such a vast ground, critically discussing these authors in a comprehensive framework. It collates all the arguments and economic viewpoints in one collection, providing both the seasoned economist and a graduate economist with a critical comparison of origin, mechanisms, conclusions, and policy implications of these models.

Download or read book The Replacement Problem written by Thomas F. Cooley and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We construct a vintage capital model of economic growth in which the decision to replace old technologies with new ones is modeled explicitly. Depreciation in this environment is an economic, not a physical concept. We describe the balanced growth paths and the transitional dynamics of this economy. We illustrate the importance of vintage capital by analyzing the response of the economy to fiscal policies designed to stimulate investment in new technologies. A revised version of this paper is published in the Journal of Monetary Economics, v. 40, no. 3(December 1997):457-499.
