Updated as of May 29, 2018 We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), announce a 12-month finding on a petition to list the Rio Grande cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii virginalis) as an endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act). After review of the best available scientific and commercial information, we find that listing the Rio Grande cutthroat trout is not warranted at this time, and, therefore, we are removing this species from our candidate list. However, we ask the public to submit to us any new information that becomes available concerning the status of the Rio Grande cutthroat trout at any time. Book Status Review for Westslope Cutthroat Trout in the United States

Download or read book Status Review for Westslope Cutthroat Trout in the United States written by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Executive Summary "on June 6, 1997, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) reveived a formal petition to list the westslope cutthroat trout (WST) as threatened throughout its range pirsuant to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973... The Service found no complelling evidence in support of recognizing distinct population segments for WCT. Instead, a single WCT population was recofnized for purposes of te status review...Evidence from the Missouri River basin indicated that a conspicuous decline in WCT stocks occurred early in the twentieth century. That decline was largly attributed to rapid, abundant colonization of mainstem rivers and their majoy tributaries by one or more introduced, nonnative dish species...The Service found that most of the habitat for extant WCT stocks lies on lands administered by federal agencies, particularly the U.S. Forest Service. Moreover, many of the stronghols for WCT stocks occure within roadless or wilderness areas of national parks, all of which afford considerable protetion to WCT... On the basis of the available information, the Service conculded that the WCT is not likely to become a threatened or endanered species with the foreseeable future.

This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endangered and Threatened Species - Removing Eastern Puma (Cougar) from Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife (US Fish and Wildlife Service Regulation) (FWS) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Endangered and Threatened Species - Removing Eastern Puma (Cougar) from Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife (US Fish and Wildlife Service Regulation) (FWS) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), determine the eastern puma (=cougar) (Puma (=Felis) concolor couguar) to be extinct, based on the best available scientific and commercial information. This information shows no evidence of the existence of either an extant reproducing population or any individuals of the eastern puma subspecies; it also is highly unlikely that an eastern puma population could remain undetected since the last confirmed sighting in 1938. Therefore, under the authority of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (Act), as amended, we remove this subspecies from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. Book Endangered and Threatened Species of the Platte River

Download or read book Endangered and Threatened Species of the Platte River written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-02-24 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tension between wildlife protection under the Endangered Species Act and water management in the Platte River Basin has existed for more than 25 years. The Platte River provides important habitat for migratory and breeding birds, including three endangered or threatened species: the whooping crane, the northern Great Plains population of the piping plover, and the interior least tern. The leading factors attributed to the decline of the cranes are historical overhunting and widespread habitat destruction and, for the plovers and terns, human interference during nesting and the loss of riverine nesting sites in open sandy areas that have been replaced with woodlands, sand and gravel mines, housing, and roadways. Extensive damming has disrupted passage of the endangered pallid sturgeon and resulted in less suitable habitat conditions such as cooler stream flows, less turbid waters, and inconsistent flow regimes. Commercial harvesting, now illegal, also contributed to the decline of the sturgeon. Endangered and Threatened Species of the Platte River addresses the habitat requirements for these federally protected species. The book further examines the scientific aspects of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's instream-flow recommendations and habitat suitability guidelines and assesses the science concerning the connections among the physical systems of the river as they relate to species' habitats.

Book Conservation Assessment for Inland Cutthroat Trout

Download or read book Conservation Assessment for Inland Cutthroat Trout written by Michael K. Young and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document focuses on the state of the science for five subspecies of cutthroat trout found largely on public lands in the Rocky Mountain and Intermountain West. These subspecies are restricted to a fragment of their former range, and primarily occupy small, high-elevation streams. Little is known about the three rarest subspecies (Bonneville, Colorado River, and Rio Grande cutthroat trout), and the data on the more abundant subspecies (westslope and Yellowstone cutthroat trout) were obtained from relatively few areas. The historic diversity of life history strategies has been reduced. All subspecies have suffered from introductions of nonnative fishes, habitat degradation and fragmentation, and overfishing. Current management often centers on restrictive angling regulations, barricading streams to prevent invasion by nonnative fishes, and reintroductions into streams with existing barriers.
