Book excerpt: Delores Jenkins Garland, retired English/theater teacher has been writing and producing plays for more than twenty years. Never before has she felt the need to publish her works than now. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Ms. Garland became more sensitive to human conditions as they were reflected in the lives of many of the students she taught at Bonds-Wilson High School in North Charleston, South Carolina; Thirty- Third Avenue High School in Gulfport, Mississippi; and Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia. She believes that the family is divinely inspired and is the most important social organization known to man. Therefore, her plays focus on the family and many of the social issues that can either unify or bring about its distruction. Her subjects are contemporary; her characters are real and believable; and her objective? Family Unity. Her plays are very entertaining, not preachy; and

Download or read book Armageddon Revealed written by Donald Dodd and published by . This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armageddon Revealed tells the story the History Channel's documentary "The lost book of Nostradamus" could not. The book devises a method of reliably interpreting the simple rebus visual puzzles contained within the Vaticinia Nostradami and reveals two never before interpreted prophecies of the End of the World. Follow along and discover Nostradamus' encryption that he characterized as, "so ticklish that there is no making way through them, nor is there any interpreting of them," reads more like a combination of Egyptian hieroglyphics and a simple child's visual puzzle. Like acts of a play, Nostradamus' watercolors warn of a preventable apocalypse in our immediate future perpetrated by a terrorist spawn from the infamous Rajneesh cult of the 1980s from finishing her quest as their avenging angel. This real-life confessed bioterrorist has, according to Nostradamus, devoted her life to weaponizing a virus with the intent of creating a deadly global pandemic. Then in the last third of the book, one of Nostradamus' watercolors point to a loved 3,000-year-old poem that contains a veiled never before interpreted prophecy resembling the Final Exodus or Armageddon. This love story eclipses a description of the return of God, separate Messiah, a reference revealing the identity of the Witnesses to Armageddon, and a beautiful female leader of the army of Gog and Magog. The prophecy falls short of being a story of the Final Exodus and ends with the Jewish people being led away as slaves and the Messiah making a plea to God. The interpretations contained in Armageddon Revealed are as close to Nostradamus' true intent as ever written and should scare the heck out of people who already believe his codex contains unsolved prophecies regarding the End of the World. Come walk in the footsteps of the prophets.

Book A History of the End of the World

Download or read book A History of the End of the World written by Jonathan Kirsch and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2006-08-22 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[The Book of] Revelation has served as a "language arsenal" in a great many of the social, cultural, and political conflicts in Western history. Again and again, Revelation has stirred some dangerous men and women to act out their own private apocalypses. Above all, the moral calculus of Revelation—the demonization of one's enemies, the sanctification of revenge taking, and the notion that history must end in catastrophe—can be detected in some of the worst atrocities and excesses of every age, including our own. For all of these reasons, the rest of us ignore the book of Revelation only at our impoverishment and, more to the point, at our own peril." The mysterious author of the Book of Revelation (or the Apocalypse, as the last book of the New Testament is also known) never considered that his sermon on the impending end times would last beyond his own life. In fact, he predicted that the destruction of the earth would be witnessed by his contemporaries. Yet Revelation not only outlived its creat∨ this vivid and violent revenge fantasy has played a significant role in the march of Western civilization. Ever since Revelation was first preached as the revealed word of Jesus Christ, it has haunted and inspired hearers and readers alike. The mark of the beast, the Antichrist, 666, the Whore of Babylon, Armageddon, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are just a few of the images, phrases, and codes that have burned their way into the fabric of our culture. The questions raised go straight to the heart of the human fear of death and obsession with the afterlife. Will we, individually or collectively, ride off to glory, or will we drown in hellfire for all eternity? As those who best manipulate this dark vision learned, which side we fall on is often a matter of life or death. Honed into a weapon in the ongoing culture wars between states, religions, and citizenry, Revelation has significantly altered the course of history. Kirsch, whom the Washington Post calls "a fine storyteller with a flair for rendering ancient tales relevant and appealing to modern audiences," delivers a far-ranging, entertaining, and shocking history of this scandalous book, which was nearly cut from the New Testament. From the fall of the Roman Empire to the Black Death, the Inquisition to the Protestant Reformation, the New World to the rise of the Religious Right, this chronicle of the use and abuse of the Book of Revelation tells the tale of the unfolding of history and the hopes, fears, dreams, and nightmares of all humanity.

Download or read book A Meaningful World written by Benjamin Wiker and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meaningful or meaningless? Purposeful or pointless? When we look at nature, whether at our living earth or into deepest space, what do we find? In stark contrast to contemporary claims that the world is meaningless, Benjamin Wiker and Jonathan Witt reveal a cosmos charged with both meaning and purpose. Their journey begins with Shakespeare and ranges through Euclid's geometry, the fine-tuning of the laws of physics, the periodic table of the elements, the artistry of ordinary substances like carbon and water, the intricacy of biological organisms, and the irreducible drama of scientific exploration itself. Along the way, Wiker and Witt fashion a robust argument from evidence in nature, one that rests neither on religious presuppositions nor on a simplistic view of nature as the best of all possible worlds. In their exploration of the cosmos, Wiker and Witt find all the challenges and surprises, all of the mystery and elegance one expects from a work of genius.

Book Teachings for an Unbelieving World

Download or read book Teachings for an Unbelieving World written by John Paul II and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a first-place award for English translation editions from The Catholic Media Association. Teachings for an Unbelieving World is a newly discovered work written by St. John Paul II—then Archbishop Karol Wojtyła of Kraków—in the years just after Vatican II. He uses St. Paul’s sermon to the people of Athens in Acts 17 as a framework for articulating the faith in a culture of skepticism and unbelief. These thirteen brief reflections provide compelling teaching for Catholics in today’s post-Christian world and give fresh insight into JPII’s pontificate. This is the first English-language publication of this important work. St. John Paul II composed these thirteen reflections at a unique point of convergence in history—the closing of Vatican II in 1965 and the 1966 observance of one thousand years of Christianity in Poland. Teachings for an Unbelieving World is an extended meditation on Acts 17 where Paul speaks to the cultural elite of Athens after he observed an altar of an unknown god in the city. Quoting from both the Bible and the documents of Vatican II, John Paul II draws timely wisdom from the apostle’s mission to bring the truth of the Gospel to a worldly culture of sophistication and disbelief, one not unlike our own. The future pope reveals Paul’s memorable encounter as an enduring framework to boldly present the core truths of Catholic faith to those living under Poland’s communist regime. In so doing, JPII demonstrates how relevant Paul’s words are today and equips us to meet the challenges of proclaiming the faith in our times. Teachings for an Unbelieving World affirms the continuity of Catholic faith about: humanity’s place in God’s creation; our search for meaning, truth, and freedom; addressing a culture of unbelief; the gift of redemption in Jesus Christ; the grace of the Holy Spirit; the role of the Church in the world; the power of the Eucharist; the redemptive and self-giving nature of human love; and the importance of prayer.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris, and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel. In a mining town in Germany, the orphan Werner grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments, a talent that wins him a place at a brutal academy for Hitler Youth, then a special assignment to track the Resistance. More and more aware of the human cost of his intelligence, Werner travels through the heart of the war and, finally, into Saint-Malo, where his story and Marie-Laure’s converge. Doerr’s “stunning sense of physical detail and gorgeous metaphors” (San Francisco Chronicle) are dazzling. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, he illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another. Ten years in the writing, All the Light We Cannot See is a magnificent, deeply moving novel from a writer “whose sentences never fail to thrill” (Los Angeles Times).

Book excerpt: His New York Times phenomenon The Prayer of Jabez changed how millions pray. Now Bruce Wilkinson wants to change what they do next. Anyone can do a good deed, but some good works can only happen by an act of God. Around the world these acts are called miracles–not that even religious people expect to see one any time soon. But what would happen if millions of ordinary people walked out each morning expecting God to deliver a miracle through them to a person in need? You Were Born for This starts with the dramatic premise that everyone at all times is in need of a miracle, and that God is ready to meet those needs supernaturally through ordinary people who are willing to learn the "protocol of heaven." In the straightforward, story-driven, highly motivating style for which he is known, Wilkinson describes how anyone can be a 'Delivery Guy' from heaven in such universally significant arenas of life as finances, practical help, relationships, purpose and spiritual growth. You Were Born for This will change how you see your world and show you what you can expect God to do through you to meet real needs. You will master seven simple tools of service, and come to say with confidence, "I want to deliver a supernatural gift from God to someone in need today–and I expect to!"

Book Science and the Mind of the Maker

Download or read book Science and the Mind of the Maker written by Melissa Cain Travis and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2018-07-03 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are We an Accident...or Not? The question of cosmic origins and our place in the grand scheme of things has been debated for millennia. Why do we exist? Why does anything exist at all? Today's popular narrative, based on advancements in science, is that it all happened by natural, random processes. Melissa Cain Travis points to powerful evidence that the opposite is true—that cosmology, astronomy, biochemistry, and other disciplines strongly support what she calls "The Maker Thesis," which explains the origin, rationality, and intricacy of nature and the human mind's capacity to comprehend it. Our universe is made up of numerous complex systems of order that both interact and coexist with each other as if in a carefully choreographed dance. Follow along on a fascinating journey about how the structure of nature and the mind of man resonate in ways that point to a Maker who fully intended the astounding discoveries being made in the natural sciences today.
