Book Aging and the Macroeconomy

Download or read book Aging and the Macroeconomy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. In the coming decades, people aged 65 and over will make up an increasingly large percentage of the population: The ratio of people aged 65+ to people aged 20-64 will rise by 80%. This shift is happening for two reasons: people are living longer, and many couples are choosing to have fewer children and to have those children somewhat later in life. The resulting demographic shift will present the nation with economic challenges, both to absorb the costs and to leverage the benefits of an aging population. Aging and the Macroeconomy: Long-Term Implications of an Older Population presents the fundamental factors driving the aging of the U.S. population, as well as its societal implications and likely long-term macroeconomic effects in a global context. The report finds that, while population aging does not pose an insurmountable challenge to the nation, it is imperative that sensible policies are implemented soon to allow companies and households to respond. It offers four practical approaches for preparing resources to support the future consumption of households and for adapting to the new economic landscape.

Book Manage Your Money Like the Rich and Famous

Download or read book Manage Your Money Like the Rich and Famous written by N. Travers and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all know how the rich get richer: They splash lots of money around, investing in lots of people and multiple businesses. Not all of it sticks, but enough does that they still make above average returns over the long term, getting richer year by year. The rest of us, face considerable barriers in trying to copy this strategy, because: To make money, you need money - lots of money. Financial businesses, like banks, offer ridiculously low interest rates, exploiting our savings to make themselves richer and us poorer. What money we have saved is sacred to us - we cannot afford to lose it, or gamble it away, because it's our financial security. Managing our own investments, by stock picking, forex, crypto, and day trading, or binary options, is not just risky, it's downright gambling. Worse, it's a full-time job, requiring great knowledge and experience - most of us do still have to work to pay the bills. In this disruptive book, Nick Travers shows you how to overcome all these problems. He demonstrates how anyone with access to the internet, a bank account, a computer or smartphone, and an hour or two per month, can make above average investment gains over the longer term, without the stress. Whether you simply want to learn how to begin saving and investing, or you are saving for a 'rainy day', college, university, higher education, marriage, a home, retirement, or to get out of debt, this book will help you invest smarter, and secure your personal finances. "Straight forward and engaging, with simple explanations; this universal, common sense financial strategy, will work for anyone, with any amount of money to invest." Nick Travers spent twenty-five years in the finance industry, working with some of the most prestigious financial service providers in the UK - helping rich people become richer. He's seen how banks and financial institutions work from the inside. Now he shows you how to break the cycle of exploitation, so you can make yourself richer. "There's no secret or magic to making money like the rich. You just need to understand the financial risks, learn how to overcome them, and use the right financial strategies." Nick Travers. Anyone with access to the internet, a bank account, a computer or smartphone, and an hour or two per month, can now manage their own money like the rich and famous.

Book Financial Education Savings and Investments

Download or read book Financial Education Savings and Investments written by Sue Lewis and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Savings and investments by individuals are important both for personal financial well-being and for economic growth. Many governments try to encourage their citizens to save more, or to save more appropriately, by preferring formal institutions to informal saving and by promoting more diversification. However, there are considerable barriers to saving, including limited access to financial markets by some groups, complexity of financial products and information asymmetries. Knowledge and understanding of saving and investment concepts is particularly low in many countries. In addition, there are behavioural and cultural factors which may limit people's propensity to save. As a consequence, policy makers have developed several strategies to influence whether and how individuals save. Policy responses typically involve a combination of prudential regulation and consumer protection legislation, financial incentives, financial education and awareness initiatives, as well as behavioural techniques to encourage people into sound saving decisions.

Book From Global Savings Glut to Financing Infrastructure

Download or read book From Global Savings Glut to Financing Infrastructure written by Mr.Rabah Arezki and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the emerging global landscape for public-private co-investments in infrastructure. The creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and other so-called “infrastructure investment platforms” are an attempt to tap into the pool of both public and private long-term savings in order to channel the latter into much needed infrastructure projects. This paper puts these new initiatives into perspective by critically reviewing the literature and experience with public private partnerships in infrastructure. It concludes by identifying the main challenges policy makers and other actors will need to confront going forward and to turn infrastructure into an asset class of its own.

Book Encouraging Savings Under the Earned Income Tax Credit

Download or read book Encouraging Savings Under the Earned Income Tax Credit written by Vada Waters Lindsey and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During 2007, 3.6 million or 9.7% of people in the United States age 65 or older were below the poverty level. In light of the number of elderly people living below the poverty level, it is important that everyone, including low-income workers, have the opportunity to save for retirement. Low-income workers face many challenges to saving for retirement. The barriers to saving include the lack of access to retirement plans and lack of investment savvy. For example, only 42% of workers employed in service occupations in the private industry have access to employer retirement plans. The percentage drops to 39% for part-time employees. This Article proposes that the earned income tax credit (EITC) be expanded to encourage saving to help reduce the poverty level. The Article argues that the EITC should be structured to “nudge” low-income workers to invest in retirement plans and individual retirement accounts to lower the likelihood that they will live below the poverty level at retirement. The Article then discusses the importance of saving and the ways in which the government has encouraged lower income workers to accumulate wealth. Because these efforts have not succeeded in increasing the savings rate of low-income workers, the government must take additional measures to encourage them to save. This Article outlines a detailed plan for the adoption of a saving component to the EITC and outlines the importance of automatic contributions in conjunction with the EITC to maximize the success of the saving component. The plan also includes a government match in certain circumstances but requires forfeiture of the match for early withdrawals.
