Book Advances in Soft Computing

Download or read book Advances in Soft Computing written by Grigori Sidorov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-31 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that models the human ability of reasoning, usage of human language and organization of knowledge, solving problems and practically all other human intellectual abilities. Usually it is characterized by the application of heuristic methods because in the majority of cases there is no exact solution to this kind of problem. Soft computing can be viewed as a branch of AI that deals with the problems that explicitly contain incomplete or complex information, or are known to be impossible for direct computation, i.e., these are the same problems as in AI but viewed from the perspective of their computation. The Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI), a yearly international conference series organized by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA), is a major international AI forum and the main event in the academic life of the country’s growing AI community. In 2010, SMIA celebrated 10 years of activity related to the organization of MICAI as is represented in its slogan “Ten years on the road with AI”. MICAI conferences traditionally publish high-quality papers in all areas of artificial intelligence and its applications. The proceedings of the previous MICAI events were also published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series, vols. 1793, 2313, 2972, 3789, 4293, 4827, 5317, and 5845. Since its foundation in 2000, the conference has been growing in popularity and improving in quality.

Book Modeling and Simulation in Manufacturing and Defense Acquisition

Download or read book Modeling and Simulation in Manufacturing and Defense Acquisition written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-07-01 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Committee on Modeling and Simulation Enhancements for 21st Century Manufacturing and Acquisition was formed by the NRC in response to a request from the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) of DOD. The committee was asked to (1) investigate next-generation evolutionary and revolutionary M&S capabilities that will support enhanced defense systems acquisition; (2) identify specific emerging design, testing, and manufacturing process technologies that can be enabled by advanced M&S capabilities; (3) relate these emerging technologies to long-term DOD requirements; (4) assess ongoing efforts to develop advanced M&S capabilities and identify gaps that must be filled to make the emerging technologies a reality; (5) identify lessons learned from industry; and (6) recommend specific government actions to expedite development and to enable maximum DOD and U.S. commercial benefit from these capabilities. To complete its task, the committee identified relevant trends and their impact on defense acquisition needs; current use and support for use of M&S within DOD; lessons learned from commercial manufacturing; three cross-cutting and especially challenging uses of M&S technologies; and the areas in which basic research is needed in M&S in order to achieve the desired goals for manufacturing and defense acquisition.

Book Discrete Event Modeling and Simulation Technologies
