Book The Creative Mindset

Download or read book The Creative Mindset written by Jeff DeGraff and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Jeff and Staney emphasize that small acts of creativity can have huge consequences and that ordinary people can do extraordinary things if they can see the opportunities in front of them.” —Mitch Jacobson, Executive Director, Austin Technology Incubator, UT Blackstone LaunchPad, University of Texas at Austin Nearly all of today's major innovation workshops and programs call on organizations to drive innovation. What they miss is that innovation comes from the personal creativity of individuals. And creativity doesn't require an advanced education or technical skills—all employees can be creative. Often, all they lack is a fitting mindset and the right skills. The Creative Mindset brings how-to advice, tools, and techniques from two master innovators who have taught and worked with over half of all Fortune 500 companies. Jeff and Staney DeGraff introduce six essential creative-thinking skills that can be easily mastered with limited practice and remembered as the acronym CREATE: Concentrate, Replicate, Elaborate, Associate, Translate, and Evaluate. These six skills, sequenced as steps, simplify and summarize the most important research on creative thinking and draw on over thirty years of real-world application in some of the most innovative organizations in the world. It's time to rethink the way we make innovation happen. Individual creativity is an immense untapped resource, and you don't have to be Beethoven to make a big difference. As the spirit of chef Gusteau proclaims in the Pixar classic Ratatouille, “Anyone can cook.”

Book Empowering Students and Elevating Universities With Innovation Centers

Download or read book Empowering Students and Elevating Universities With Innovation Centers written by Cantafio, Giuseppe and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As educational institutions strive to prepare students for an unpredictable future, traditional models of teaching and learning face obsolescence. The digital age demands a large shift in educational approaches, necessitating creative solutions to equip students with the skills required to navigate an era defined by rapid technological advancements and societal complexities. It is within this context that Empowering Students and Elevating Universities With Innovation Centers unfolds, offering a detailed exploration into the pivotal role of innovation centers in reshaping the educational narrative. The educational crisis is further exacerbated by the disconnect between academic learning and the demands of the real world. As universities grapple with bridging this gap, innovation centers provide a transformative space where students can bridge theory with practical application. This book contends that the establishment of innovation centers is not just a strategic choice but a necessary response to the evolving needs of a globalized society. Through a critical lens, it scrutinizes the contemporary challenges faced by universities and argues that the integration of innovation centers is not a luxury but a necessity for institutions to remain relevant, competitive, and responsive to the demands of the 21st century.

Book Empowering Ourselves and Transforming Schools

Download or read book Empowering Ourselves and Transforming Schools written by Judith W. Irwin and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1996-09-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this readable and ground-breaking text, Irwin examines the forces that keep educators and students from feeling fully empowered. She defines empowerment as gaining the power to self-actualize and to facilitate this for others. Grounding her arguments in feminist and critical examinations of domination, Irwin begins by defining empowerment as fundamentally opposed to domination. She then examines the implications of this definition for our educational system. This book encourages the reader to consider new directions for educational reform and synthesizes current innovations under the umbrella philosophy of empowerment, suggesting how the change from the patriarchal paradigm to one based on cooperation and connection might revolutionize the organization of schools and their classrooms. The reader is challenged to develop his or her own philosophy and agenda for change through a series of reflective activities. A comparative case study of five "empowered" teachers is included to demonstrate that empowerment is an individual as well as a collective process.

Book Empowering Women in STEM

Download or read book Empowering Women in STEM written by Sanya Mathura and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-03-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the globe, STEM careers exist. However, in some countries, particular STEM careers have been male-dominated while in other countries no gender biases exist as it relates to STEM careers. One common trend which occurs throughout the world is that women who are working in these STEM related fields typically leave after about five years. Contrarily, it has also been uncovered that more women stay in these fields when we all work together. Empowering Women in STEM: Working Together to Inspire the Future provides a platform to share the stories of those who have been in STEM careers but have pivoted to other areas by utilizing the STEM skills they learned. It bridges the gap between those who are thinking about entering or leaving STEM careers, along with those who want to encourage others into STEM careers. This book showcases how everyone’s journey is different, some may have unexpected twists and turns while others appear to conform to the "normal" rules outlined by society. By offering a front-row seat on a journey that takes many different paths, this book provides advice that can lead to a STEM career with or without having a STEM background. The different roads taken are highlighted to show how everyone’s path is unique and how that is okay. With the upcoming generation constantly looking for ways to "fit in" or be able to identify with role models to help them chart their way forward, this book ensures that they have not just one, but a variety of role models and success stories to relate to. It also offers some key advice which can be applied to any field they choose. In addition to having women and men from across the globe share their stories about various fields, this book also is written for professionals who may be considering a switch of career or deciding to leave STEM, and for university students who are trying to figure out their career choices and paths to take to gain more insight into possible new career goals in STEM.

Book Politicizing Creative Economy

Download or read book Politicizing Creative Economy written by Dia Da Costa and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars increasingly view the arts, creativity, and the creative economy as engines for regenerating global citizenship, renewing decayed local economies, and nurturing a new type of all-inclusive politics. Dia Da Costa delves into these ideas with a critical ethnography of two activist performance groups in India: the Communist-affiliated Jana Natya Manch, and Bhutan Theatre, a community-based group of the indigenous Chhara people. As Da Costa shows, commodification, heritage, and management discussions inevitably creep into performance. Yet the ability of performance to undermine such subtle invasions make street theater a crucial site for considering what counts as creativity in the cultural politics of creative economy. Da Costa explores the precarious lives, livelihoods, and ideologies at the intersection of heritage projects, planning discourse, and activist performance. By analyzing the creators, performers, and activists involved--individuals at the margins of creative economy as well as society--Da Costa builds a provocative argument. Their creative economy practices may survive, challenge, and even reinforce the economies of death, displacement, and divisiveness used by the urban poor to survive.
