Book The Value of Employment for People with Disabilities Around the World

Download or read book The Value of Employment for People with Disabilities Around the World written by Renáta Tichá and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-07-03 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Receiving education and training that lead to a meaningful job, having a career, and being a valued contributor to a professional environment is taken for granted by many. Historically, however, people with disabilities have had limited opportunities to engage in employment due to discrimination, ableism, and low expectations despite the fact that employment is a basic human and civil right. This book is intended to build awareness and inspire action on the part of chief executive officers, human resource managers, and supervisory personnel to facilitate employment opportunities for people with disabilities. It will be of interest to policy makers and other professionals who support people with disabilities as part of their responsibilities in labor and social service ministries, vocational rehabilitation service providers, and employment service providers. The book is written by authors with backgrounds in a variety of disciplines related to the employment of people with disabilities across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Book The Relationship Between Vocational Rehabilitation Services Demographic Variables and Outcomes Among Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities

Download or read book The Relationship Between Vocational Rehabilitation Services Demographic Variables and Outcomes Among Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities written by Elizabeth S. Bromet and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the types of vocational rehabilitation services provided to individuals with psychiatric disabilities through the federal-state vocational rehabilitation program and the relationship of these services to employment outcome. With the cooperation and support of the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), the data for this study consisted of consumers with psychiatric disabilities who received services during federal fiscal year 2002 (n = 79,967). In addition, this study evaluated and described the demographic variables that were involved in successful employment outcome such as gender, race/ethnicity, age, diagnosis, significant disability, years of education, and disability benefits. To ensure that the regression model had both generalizability and transferability to the population and situations for which it was intended, model validation was accomplished by splitting the sample approximately in half, resulting in a top (n = 40,000) and bottom sample (n = 39,967). Correlational analyses and chi-square analyses were used to assess the bivariate relationship between the dependent variables (program closure status) and each of the predictor variables to identify high intercorrelations and assist in determining which variables were entered into the logistic regression model. The best fit model was identified and interpreted based on the top and bottom halves of data. Neither race/ethnicity nor gender were predictors of employment outcome and after being force entered into the initial logistic regression model, race/ethnicity was dropped in the final model. However, job placement services, on-the-job services, job search assistance and other support services were somewhat predictive of a positive employment outcome for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. This may be due in part to the use of these services as a conduit toward achieving competitive employment, thus consumers receiving such services would be closer to achieving employment. In contrast, recipients of disability benefits, most especially individuals receiving SSI and SSDI, were the least likely to have an employment outcome after receiving services. Likewise, significant disability was also associated with fewer closures with employment outcomes. Many of the results of this study mirrored the existing literature on individuals with psychiatric disabilities, suggesting that additional research is needed to clarify the conflicting results of many studies. Model limitations and recommendations for further research are suggested.

Book Predictors of Employment of Adults with Deaf blindness Following Vocational Rehabilitation

Download or read book Predictors of Employment of Adults with Deaf blindness Following Vocational Rehabilitation written by Ian D. Shadrick and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the employment outcomes for adult vocational rehabilitation clients with deaf-blindness. The researcher examined the relationships between case service provisions (any service provided during the entire client case, e.g., vocational guidance and counseling, job-placement assistance, rehabilitation technology) and competitive employment outcomes for individuals with deaf-blindness. The sample was obtained from Rehabilitation Services Administration Case Service Report (RSA911) data, and it included 135 cases of those with deaf-blindness identified as their primary or secondary disability whose case was closed during Fiscal Year 2016. The independent variables consisted of 14 vocational rehabilitation case service variables ((a) vocational rehabilitation counseling and guidance, (b) college or university training, (c) occupational or vocational training, (d) on-the-job training, (e) basic academic remedial or literacy training, (f) job-readiness training, (g) disability-related augmentative skills training, (h) miscellaneous training, (i) job-search assistance, (j) job-placement assistance, (k) transportation, (l) maintenance, (m) rehabilitation technology, and (n) reader services). The dependent variable was attainment of competitive employment. The results indicated that three vocational rehabilitation case service variables were found to be associated with clients with deaf-blindness obtaining competitive employment. Implications for improving employment outcomes for clients with deaf-blindness include supporting post-secondary educational attainment opportunities, providing job-placement services, and providing job search-related services. Implications for case services provided by vocational rehabilitation agencies are also discussed.
