Book Market Based Interest Rate Reform in China

Download or read book Market Based Interest Rate Reform in China written by China Finance 40 Forum Research Group and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The market-based interest rate reform remains a core part of China’s financial reforms, and an important topic of both theoretical and policy studies. This book presents a comprehensive analysis of the process and logic of China’s interest rate reform from a historical perspective. It is structured along three lines, i.e. loosening interest rate controls, establishing market-based interest rates, and building an effective interest rate adjustment mechanism, and systematically reviews the characteristics and evolvement of the reform process. The book further explores the lessons and challenges of the reform by examining China’s development stage and auxiliary reforms needed, and offers policy recommendations on how to further push forward the reform.

Book Repo Market and Structure of Short Term Interest Rates in China

Download or read book Repo Market and Structure of Short Term Interest Rates in China written by Francis Mulenga Muma and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL - Bank, Börse, Versicherung, Xiamen University, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Money market refers to the market where financial institutions make transactions of short-term financial instruments for short-term financing and liquidity management. China’s money market is mainly made up of interbank funding market and bond repurchase agreement market commonly referred to as repo market. Some scholars argue that China’s financial liberalization remains incomplete as the behaviour of short-term market-determined interest rates is influenced by regulated rates. This paper argues that to have integrity of the market China should further liberalize its retail interest rates to allow all interest rates to better reflect liquidity conditions and the scarcity of capital. At present, the relevant research of the term structure of interest rates of China is mostly directed against a certain specific market or a certain specific method, lacking market integrality. For constructing a systemic, scientific term structure of interest rate of China, respective term structure of interest rate is deduced from the treasury bond market, bank deposit market, inter-bank borrowing market, bank repo market, and RMB interest rate swap market. And then according to different weights, a synthesized term structure of interest rate of China is constructed out. Finally, empirical research is carried on by use of this method. Empirical results show that the method is better than the traditional methods, and the synthesized term structure curve of interest rate by the method is between various kinds of term structure curves by the traditional methods, reflecting the situation and information of each market on the whole. Since the market-oriented economic reform in 1978, China has entered into a stage of financial deregulation and liberalization. With the growth of the national economy and change of national income structure, China’s finance has increased rapidly, which brought great changes in the financial structure. In 1978, broad money (M2) balance was near RMB150 billion yuan. By the end of 2001, broad money balance was up to RMB16000 billion yuan, an increase of over 100 times in the past twenty years.

Book Legislative Impact on Lending

Download or read book Legislative Impact on Lending written by Zhaohua Li and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chinese government established the Act on Commercial Banks 1995 to enforce and regulate commercial banking activities. The government envisaged that the Act, together with other bank reforms, would improve credit risk management practice among commercial banks, hence, prompting the banks to reduce and ultimately stop local government directed policy lending to state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This paper examines the lending behavior of a government-controlled commercial bank before and after the passage of the Act. We find that the bank tightened control of the credit risk of borrowers after the passage of the Act. We also find that SOEs are charged a rate of interest higher than that charged to private firms.

Book Research of Operational Risk Management and Its Determinants

Download or read book Research of Operational Risk Management and Its Determinants written by Xie Zhuang and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the development of science and technology and economy, more and more financial intermediaries are appearing in the financial market to ensure more efficient and stable processes in the financial system. As the main part of financial intermediary, the bank plays a vital role in the whole financial market system. In recent years, China's banking industry has been developing rapidly, but there are many potential problems, such as the operational risk management. At the present stage, the operational risk management authority of China's commercial banks is overly centralized, there is no clear loan risk responsibility system, and no effective long-term credit mechanism has been established, and the problem of non-performing loans still exists. This paper takes Hua Xia Bank as the objective of study and its analysis of the data based on its annual report between 2013 to 2017. The result of analysis shows that the ratio of firm-specific factor which can influence operating ratio mostly is leverage. Moreover, for the macroeconomic part, the significant influential factor is GDP. Therefore, this study suggest the bank should manage the leverage ratio effectively and efficiently for preforming well in the operational risk management.

Book Network Data Envelopment Analysis

Download or read book Network Data Envelopment Analysis written by Chiang Kao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the underlying theory, model development, and applications of network Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in a systematic way. The field of network DEA extends and complements conventional DEA by considering not only inputs and outputs when measuring system efficiency, but also the internal structure of the system being analyzed. By analyzing the efficiency of individual internal components, and more particularly by studying the effects of relationships among components which are modeled and implemented by means of various network structures, the “network DEA” approach is able to help identify and manage the specific components that contribute inefficiencies into the overall systems. This relatively new approach comprises an important analytical tool based on mathematical programming techniques, with valuable implications to production and operations management. The existing models for measuring the efficiency of systems of specific network structures are also discussed, and the relationships between the system and component efficiencies are explored. This book should be able to inspire new research and new applications based on the current state of the art. Performance evaluation is an important task in management, and is needed to (i) better understand the past accomplishments of an organization and (ii) plan for its future development. However, this task becomes rather challenging when multiple performance metrics are involved. DEA is a powerful tool to cope with such issues. For systems or operations composed of interrelated processes, managers need to know how the performances of the various processes evaluated and how they are aggregated to form the overall performance of the system. This book provides an advanced exposition on performance evaluation of systems with network structures. It explores the network nature of most production and operation systems, and explains why network analyses are necessary.

Book Interest Rate Derivatives and Bank Lending in China

Download or read book Interest Rate Derivatives and Bank Lending in China written by Wen Si and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With interest rate liberalization, China's commercial banks expose to more interest rate risks and use interest-rate derivatives to manage these risks. This paper develops a theoretical model, capturing the main characteristics of the banking sector in China, to analyze the effect of interest-rate derivatives on bank lending. In our model, banks choose lending activity in a way analogous to Cournot competition commonly described in industrial organization. We find the positive effect of interest-rate derivatives position on the total loan volumes in the credit market under the condition that the von Neumann-Morgenstern utility function of bank using derivatives displays either constant or decreasing absolute risk aversion and the derivatives market is unbiased. In the empirical section, we use Vector Autoregression (VAR) model with China's monthly data over the period from Jan 2007 to Jun 2014. Based on techniques commonly used in the VAR literature, the main results suggest that the interest-rate derivatives market transaction has bi-directional Granger causality with bank loan growth, and derivatives transaction has a significantly and persistently positive effect on loan growth. Moreover, we find that derivatives transaction accounts for 20 percent of variations in bank loan growth in the long run.

Book Risk Competition and Efficiency in Banking

Download or read book Risk Competition and Efficiency in Banking written by Yong Tan and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper tests the interrelationships between risk, competition and efficiency in the Chinese banking industry over the period 2003-2013 under a Granger Causality test. The current study contributes to the empirical research by using an Efficiency-adjusted Lerner index and stability inefficiency as the indicators of competition and insolvency risk and more importantly, it is the first piece of research testing the interrelationships between different types of risk, efficiency and competition in the context of Chinese banking. The results show that Chinese commercial banks with higher levels of efficiency have higher credit risk and insolvency risk, but lower liquidity risk and capital risk. Higher competition leads to lower credit risk, lower insolvency risk, but higher liquidity risk. The results further show that Chinese commercial banks with higher credit risk and insolvency risk have higher efficiency, but the impact is significant and negative for liquidity risk and capital risk. Finally, it is found that lower liquidity risk increases the market power (lower the competitive condition) in the Chinese banking industry.
