Book The Strength of Self Acceptance

Download or read book The Strength of Self Acceptance written by Michael E. Bernard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-acceptance is recognized in diverse schools of Christian and Eastern theology as well as in various schools of counseling and psychotherapy (e.g., Humanistic, Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy) as a major contributor to mental health, life satisfaction and wellness. A review of the professional literature reveals there is no text that spells out how different theologies, theories of personality and approaches to counseling and therapy conceptualize self-acceptance and how this concept is interrelated to other aspects and constructs of spirituality and psychological functioning (e.g., flexibility, mindfulness). Additionally, the field of positive psychology, which studies the character strengths and virtues that help individuals to experience well-being and to flourish, has largely ignored the concept of self-acceptance.

  • Pages : 133 pages

Download or read book Emotional Integrity written by Wayne Quarrier, and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-02-15 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You shouldn’t feel like that” is a statement that demonstrates ignorance and unkindness, whether intentional or not. It invalidates the expression of the person revealing his or her inherent feelings and exploits that person’s vulnerability. Research shows that this can result in mental health disorders, divorce, suicide, and even mass murders. Everyone has emotional experiences, and all the significant events of life include them; however, the causes and the consequences of emotions are among the least understood and underappreciated aspects of the human experience. Emotional integrity boldly intends to change that. This book presents conclusively that the disciplines of theology, social science, and medical science support the concept of emotional integrity and that the health and well-being of our society depends upon the understanding and acceptance of and adherence to this concept. This will not be an overnight transformation. Centuries of misunderstandings and decades of assertions based on them will need to be challenged until a broad enough base of theologians, educators, and mental health practitioners understand the concept of emotional integrity, accept it, and persuasively promote it. If they are successful, it is very likely that husbands and wives, parents and children, bosses and workers, friends and neighbors will experience healthy and fulfilled personal relationships.

Book excerpt: Author Richard Blount IV has a mission: he seeks to bring comfort, encouragement, and soul solutions to every living person in America. He hopes to help recover peace for Americans through an understanding of our challenges in culture, politics, religion, media, and race and to present a new set of eyes to help us navigate and progress relationships to a healthier state of being. This book’s message will develop hope and optimism in those seeking to be healed. Healing America explores the problems, causes, solutions, and benefits of being an American. Blount investigates the history, culture, perceptions, responsibilities, and challenges that come with those topics and shares alternatives to vindication, such as listening, humility, and empathy. With an intentional and purposeful approach to the country’s healing process, he aims for healthy relationships as the ultimate goal. Finally, he presents the benefits of being a part of America and the joy that comes with the opportunities we share in the United States. This study examines stressors in the United States stemming from perception and fear, offering ways to diagnose those pains and respond to them in a more spiritually mature and effective way.
