In order to be happy, you have to look outside yourself. It is not something you are born with. When you are in a condition of depression, you feel it from the inside out, yet it is triggered by external circumstances like people and things. A lot of things must go your way before you can be happy. What a shame because, if you follow these guidelines when defining happiness, you are unlikely to experience much joy. In the event that you do achieve this emotional state, it will not continue for very long at all. How did this happen? You are not really set up for long-lasting and intensely pleasant experiences if you go by these definitions. Because you are not in charge, they won't. Either happiness occurs on a regular basis or it does not. When the stars align, or when you roll the dice, it is more likely to happen. To live your life in this manner is the best way to go about it. A better way to think about happiness is as an outcome of your ability to manage your emotions.
