Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory guide, written by a leading expert in medieval theology and church history, offers a thorough overview of medieval biblical interpretation. After an opening chapter sketching the necessary background in patristic exegesis (especially the hermeneutical teaching of Augustine), the book progresses through the Middle Ages from the eighth to the fifteenth centuries, examining all the major movements, developments, and historical figures of the period. Rich in primary text engagement and comprehensive in scope, it is the only current, compact introduction to the whole range of medieval exegesis.

Download or read book Harnack Inequalities and Nonlinear Operators written by Vincenzo Vespri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-29 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains two contributions about the work of Emmanuele DiBenedetto and a selection of original papers. The authors are some of the main experts in Harnack’s inequalities and nonlinear operators. These papers are part of the contributions presented during the conference to celebrate the 70th birthday of Prof. Emmanuele DiBenedetto, which was held at “Il Palazzone” in Cortona from June 18th to 24th, 2017. The papers are focused on current research topics regarding the qualitative properties of solutions, connections with calculus of variations, Harnack inequality and regularity theory. Some papers are also related to various applications. Many of the authors have shared with Prof. DiBenedetto an intense scientific and personal collaboration, while many others have taken inspiration from and further developed his field of research. The topics of the conference are certainly of great interest for the international mathematical community.

Download or read book Family and Borghesia written by Natalia Ginzburg and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two novellas about domestic life, isolation, and the passing of time by one of the finest Italian writers of the twentieth century. Carmine, an architect, and Ivana, a translator, lived together long ago and even had a child, but the child died, and their relationship fell apart, and Carmine married Ninetta, and their child is Dodò, who Carmine feels is a little dull, and these days Carmine is still spending every evening with Ivana, but Ninetta has nothing to say about that. Family, the first of these two novellas from the 1970s, is an examination, at first comic, then progressively dark, about how time passes and life goes on and people circle around the opportunities they had missed, missing more as they do, until finally time is up. Borghesia, about a widow who keeps acquiring and losing the Siamese cats she hopes will keep her company in her loneliness, explores similar ground, along with the confusions of feeling and domestic life that came with the loosening social strictures of the 1970s. “She remembered saying that there were three things in life you should always refuse,” thinks one of Natalia Ginzburg’s characters, beginning to age out of youth: “Hypocrisy, resignation, and unhappiness. But it was impossible to shield yourself from those three things. Life was full of them and there was no holding them back.”
Download or read book The Multiple Meaning of Scripture written by Ineke Van 't Spijker and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-02-28 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the beginning of the Christian era and throughout the Middle Ages, biblical interpretation was the field where theological, philosophical and political matters were discussed. At the same time Scripture’s interpretation required the exploration of hermeneutical positions about how a literal and a hidden meaning could be established and how they related to each other. Ranging from early-Christian concerns about the text of the Bible itself, via Carolingian biblical commentaries, and the ever more diverse interpretations from the twelfth century and onwards, to the literary implications of (Jewish) commentary, the articles in this volume examine biblical exegesis both as a discourse on theology, philosophy and politics, and as the context for discussions on its underlying interpretative principles. Contributors are J. K. Kitchen, Katja Vehlow, Caroline Chevalier-Royet, Sumi Shimahara, Ian Christopher Levy, Pierre Boucaud, Elisabeth Mégier, Cédric Giraud, Wanda Zemler-Cizewski, Ineke van ’t Spijker, Eva De Visscher, Alexander Fidora, Frans van Liere, and Robert A. Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Emmanuele DiBenedetto and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate textbook provides a self-contained introduction to the classical theory of partial differential equations (PDEs). Through its careful selection of topics and engaging tone, readers will also learn how PDEs connect to cutting-edge research and the modeling of physical phenomena. The scope of the Third Edition greatly expands on that of the previous editions by including five new chapters covering additional PDE topics relevant for current areas of active research. This includes coverage of linear parabolic equations with measurable coefficients, parabolic DeGiorgi classes, Navier-Stokes equations, and more. The “Problems and Complements” sections have also been updated to feature new exercises, examples, and hints toward solutions, making this a timely resource for students. Partial Differential Equations: Third Edition is ideal for graduate students interested in exploring the theory of PDEs and how they connect to contemporary research. It can also serve as a useful tool for more experienced readers who are looking for a comprehensive reference.
Download or read book Becoming Roman written by Ralph Haeussler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few empires had such an impact on the conquered peoples as did the Roman empire, creating social, economic, and cultural changes that erased long-standing differences in material culture, languages, cults, rituals and identities. But even Rome could not create a single unified culture. Individual decisions introduced changes in material culture, identity, and behavior, creating local cultures within the global world of the Roman empire that were neither Roman nor native. The author uses Northwest Italy as an exemplary case as it went from a marginal zone to one of the most flourishing and strongly urbanized regions of Italy, while developing a unique regional culture. This volume will appeal to researchers interested in the Roman Empire, as well as those interested in individual and cultural identity in the past.
