Book Pollution control Technologies in Coal fired Power Plants and Their Impact on Aerosol Nucleation and Growth in Emissions Plumes

Download or read book Pollution control Technologies in Coal fired Power Plants and Their Impact on Aerosol Nucleation and Growth in Emissions Plumes written by Chantelle Lonsdale and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Nucleation and growth of particles in coal-fired power-plant plumes can greatly contribute to particle concentrations near source regions. Pollution-control technologies have been added to coal-fired power plants to reduce emissions of SO2 and NOX; however, their cumulative effects may be increasing in-plume particle production. Therefore, a quantitative understanding of in-plume particle production is needed to determine the implications of emission controls on the climate system. Changes in particle production with changing emissions for coal-fired power plants are simulated using the SAM-TOMAS large-eddy simulation model. For the W.A. Parish power plant, the model predicts increased particle production due to the emissions control technologies. From this, a general understanding of particle production rate changes with NOX and SO2 emissions is plotted, and estimates of US coal-fired power plant production rate changes are created. Additional particle production mechanisms are discussed, in particular an exploration of particle production from ammonia slip of NOX emission controls.

Book Recent Advances in Air Pollution Control Technologies for Coal Fired Power Plants

Download or read book Recent Advances in Air Pollution Control Technologies for Coal Fired Power Plants written by Allan Chambers and published by . This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Coal continues to be an important fuel worldwide for the generation of electricity. A previous report by the author reviewed technologies available or under development to minimize the amount of air pollutants and greenhouse gases emitted from coal-fired power plants. This report discusses further developments and improvements since 2001 in air emissions control technology."--Document.

Book Coal Fired Power Generation Handbook

Download or read book Coal Fired Power Generation Handbook written by James G. Speight and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-02-17 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal accounts for approximately one quarter of world energy consumption and of the coal produced worldwide approximately 65% is shipped to electricity producers and 33% to industrial consumers, with most of the remainder going to consumers in the residential and commercial sectors. The total share of total world energy consumption by coal is expected to increase to almost 30% in 2035. This book describes the challenges and steps by which electricity is produced form coal and deals with the challenges for removing the environmental objections to the use of coal in future power plants. New technologies are described that could virtually eliminate the sulfur, nitrogen, and mercury pollutants that are released when coal is burned for electricity generation. In addition, technologies for the capture greenhouse gases emitted from coal-fired power plants are described and the means of preventing such emissions from contributing to global warming concerns. Written by one of the world’s leading energy experts, this volume is a must-have for any engineer, scientist, or student working in this field, providing a valuable reference and guide in a quickly changing field.
