Book RECENT TRENDS IN CHEMICAL SCIENCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Download or read book RECENT TRENDS IN CHEMICAL SCIENCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE written by Dr. Azad Kumar and published by THANUJ INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHERS. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our intention in publishing this book was to discuss and interpret all of the major issues in the chemical and environmental science disciplines, because this book covers such a broad range of chemical and environmental science research area. Rather, we have selected the themes and challenges, briefly defined them and demonstrated how they connect, clarified the terminology, and indicated where further research may be accessed. We hope that the result is an excellent introduction to 'chemical and environmental science. It is primarily aimed towards researchers in chemical science and related fields, but it should be accessible to new researchers as well. We have explored into more depth on issues that have received little attention elsewhere. There are several useful sources for topics such as chemical science, environmental science, nanotechnology, ionic liquids, solid waste management, photodegradation, Nanomaterial, adsorption of hazardous metals, and conducting polymers. However we attempted to provide up-to-current knowledge, we are well aware that books may soon go out of date if they seek to provide too much detail, so we concentrated on basic concepts that should not go out of fashion too quickly. Our book differs somewhat from other texts in the chemical and environmental sciences in its concentration. We have focused on ideas and theories because we feel that a solid grasp of them will be more useful in the long run than specifics of present systems, services, and approaches. We've also highlighted the dimension since we feel it's critical to understand where the discipline and its components originated from and why some things are the way they are. This approach is based on the research, with several references provided at the end of each chapter for convenience. Our intention is that the content of this book will be sufficient to provide a fundamental knowledge of the entire field, and that readers will refer to the references for more information and examples of the parts of which they are most interested. The conclusion words and captions, as well as the important references, at the conclusion of each chapter are intended to present the main points in a factual way.

Book Preparing Chemists and Chemical Engineers for a Globally Oriented Workforce

Download or read book Preparing Chemists and Chemical Engineers for a Globally Oriented Workforce written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-09-02 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalizationâ€"the flow of people, goods, services, capital, and technology across international bordersâ€"is significantly impacting the chemistry and chemical engineering professions. Chemical companies are seeking new ideas, a trained workforce, and new market opportunities regardless of geographic location. During an October 2003 workshop, leaders in chemistry and chemical engineering from industry, academia, government, and private funding organizations explored the implications of an increasingly global research environment for the chemistry and chemical engineering workforce. The workshop presentations described deficiencies in the current educational system and the need to create and sustain a globally aware workforce in the near future. The goal of the workshop was to inform the Chemical Sciences Roundtable, which provides a science-oriented, apolitical forum for leaders in the chemical sciences to discuss chemically related issues affecting government, industry, and universities.

Book Current Trends in Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Current Trends in Organic Synthesis written by Carlo Scolastico and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two decades have seen a rapid growth in the synthetic processing of both simple and complex molecules, aimed at meeting the needs of society in all aspects of life. Many efforts have been devoted to the development of new biologically active compounds, new materials with innovative properties such as bio-compatibility, new catalysts that allow highly selective transformations, and technologies that facilitate the synthetic pro cesses. This book is a compendium of recent progress in all these aspects of synthetic chemistry. It collects the lectures of the XII International Conference on Organic Synthesis, held in Venice from June 28 to July 2, 1998, in which the present state of art of this discipline has been reported. The topics covered include: combinatorial chemistry, new synthetic methods, stereo selective synthesis, metal-mediated synthesis, and target oriented synthesis. The book collects the contributions, in the mentioned topics, of 43 scientists from 19 different countries. The contributions presented in the Conference as plenary lectures are reported in the first section of the book. Particular attention has been dedicated to combinatorial chemistry, a new and promising methodology for the synthesis of libraries of pharmaco logically interesting compounds in order to allow the automatic pharmacological screening of thousands of compounds. The Conference has dedicated to combinatorial chemistry a mini-symposium in which scientists from academy and companies have described the current trends of this very new technology.

Book Challenges in Chemistry Graduate Education

Download or read book Challenges in Chemistry Graduate Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-09-21 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry graduate education is under considerable pressure. Pharmaceutical companies, long a major employer of synthetic organic chemists, are drastically paring back their research divisions to reduce costs. Chemical companies are opening new research and development facilities in Asia rather than in the United States to take advantage of growing markets and trained workforces there. Universities, especially public universities, are under significant fiscal constraints that threaten their ability to hire new faculty members. Future federal funding of chemical research may be limited as the federal budget tightens. All of these trends have major consequences for the education of chemistry graduate students in U.S. universities. To explore and respond to these intensifying pressures, the Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology held a workshop in Washington, DC, on January 23-24 2012, titled "Graduate Education in Chemistry in the Context of a Changing Environment." The workshop brought together representatives from across the chemical enterprise, representing leaders and future leaders of academia, industry, and government. The goal of the workshop was not to come to conclusions, but to have an open and frank discussion about critical issues affecting chemistry graduate education, such as the attraction and retainment of the most able students to graduate education, financial stressors on the current support model and their implications for the future model, competencies needed in the changing job market for Ph.D. chemists, and competencies needed to address societal problems such as energy and sustainability. Challenges in Chemistry Graduate Education: A Workshop Summary is organized into six chapters and summarizes the workshop on "Graduate Education in Chemistry in the Context of a Changing Environment."
