Book Emergency Planning for the Solo Entrepreneur

Download or read book Emergency Planning for the Solo Entrepreneur written by Kathryn Hack and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges facing a solo entrepreneur when calamity strikes are unique in the realm of disaster planning, and the only effective strategy for preventing a business failure after an unexpected major setback is to have a clearly thought-out emergency backup plan. This book guides you to being 100 percent ready for the worst-case scenario. Disasters are sudden, calamitous events that can bring about great loss and failure to a business. Some disasters can be prevented through good judgment and careful planning; others—whether "acts of God" such as flood or fire or a personal health crisis—cannot be. What will happen if the one person responsible for the day-to-day operations of a solo entrepreneurship is suddenly incapacitated and unable to manage the business? In cases of small businesses that do not have a clear backup or disaster recovery plan, the outcome is often the total failure of the business. This book is both a wakeup call and an action plan for small business owners. It will guide readers toward creating a backup system that will enable a business to "run itself" without the immediate presence of its owner—for a week, a month, or even longer. The author presents a tested strategy that has its roots in preparing for natural disasters, and replaces the all-too-common refusal to believe that bad things can and do happen with hard facts and realism. Clearly, solopreneurs cannot afford to take risks of failure when it comes to their businesses—the most important thing in their lives aside from family and health.

Book Disaster Preparedness for a Small Business Or Shop

Download or read book Disaster Preparedness for a Small Business Or Shop written by Ralph W. Ritchie and published by Ralph Ritchie Press. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you seen the mass of information out there for small businesses? Google lists 2,700,000 entries for small business disasters. Much of it is government stuff. So, why did I bother writing this book? Mostly, it contains what the rest have left out. Sometimes, I think that the people who write this stuff have never been a small business owner, have never been on the receiving end of a disaster, or they lead a sterile life in some nice, cozy office.I have done the research, and this is the fifth book in our Disaster Preparedness Series. A Disaster Plan For The Small Business and Shop, which the Law says you don?t need. BUT, if there is a disaster, you are legally responsible if you don?t have one. There it is: your own genuine Catch 22. Having a written plan shows that you made an effort to protect people. Get it? Besides, that disaster is a threat to your business, too. Better now to also have a recovery plan in case Mother Nature splatters your facilities and people all over the countryside. Haven?t heard about this? You need a master plan. It?s in OUR book.

Book Emergency Preparedness for Small Business

Download or read book Emergency Preparedness for Small Business written by Joseph Krueger and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-06 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the odds that your small business or professional office will survive a major catastrophic event? 60%? 70%? Actually, if you have a Business Continuity Plan, history says you might experience odds like these. Certainly, you have a better than a 50/50 chance. But for small businesses without a workable, up-to-date Plan, the odds are more like 40% complete failure within the year following the event. Why? There are many reasons of course, but at least two of them are avoidable. The first is lack of a plan altogether. Without a plan you run the risk of injury or death . . . and, yes, the added risk of lawsuits for negligence. The truth is that small business executives (and that includes even single-executive professional offices) are busy. They typically don't have the time or confidence that they know enough about security issues to create a plan or even delegate it. We'll come back to how this book simplifies getting a plan done. The second reason businesses fail is because of lack of a workable plan. Even large corporate plans can overlook one key element - the anxiety employees will feel about the well-being of their families and loved ones. In major disasters where communications are disrupted or destroyed and even cell phones can't get through, employees' urge to leave work, find a way to get home, and make sure everyone is OK overshadows the need to stay and help save the business. The good news is that there are inexpensive and proven answers to both of these -- and that's what this book introduces. First, it emphasizes the value of CERT and Workplace CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training that is offered at little or no cost by FEMA and local governments. The reality is that in a major event, people get injured and die. And the bigger the event, the longer it will take for official fire and rescue teams to get to everyone. This means that where saving lives is first priority, you, your neighbors and fellow employees are the real "first responders." CERT training turns more people into effective first responders who can make a big difference for people AND for the business's survival.Next to actual life-saving efforts, communications are arguably the most important thing for you to focus on in an emergency. Crisis communications are not optional! Emergency Preparedness for Small Business approaches this challenge with a number of recommendations for setting up Communications Teams and managing the all-important contact both within the company and with the outside world. Saving lives and working as a team is a central theme and focus of this and companion books in our Disaster Survival series. The first 3 books cover how to build emergency teams in Apartment, Condominium, Manufactured (Mobile) Home as well as single family home Residential neighborhoods. The business community has a different set of challenges, of course, but the impediments to planning are pretty much the same: intimidation and procrastination, confusion and overwhelm. This book addresses those issues squarely and presents step-by-step solutions. It offers many checklists and suggested procedures. It even includes a "secret weapon" that co-author Joe Krueger learned about while creating plans as a Counterintelligence Agent during the Cold War. The authors say: "In all cases, our goal is simple -- to increase the level of preparedness and readiness to respond by building community-wide emergency response teams. We know of no other book that addresses the need to connect businesses this way with their neighborhoods and the residential neighborhoods of their employees. We have dubbed it a "wholistic" approach to disaster survival."
