Book In field Variation for Soybean Emergence and Development

Download or read book In field Variation for Soybean Emergence and Development written by Travis C. Belt and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of soil and landscape characteristics on soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] emergence, development, and yield. Effects of soil and landscape characteristics, as measured by EC a and DEM data, on soybean emergence and yield as well as soybean NDVI, as measured by a multispectral radiometer, were measured near Columbia, MO in 2001 and 2002. Two planting dates and seeds treated with or without a fungicide were used in an attempt to provide variation for soil temperature, moisture, and disease pressure during emergence. Early planting dates delayed emergence and decreased emergence percentage in both years. Lower initial populations for the early planting dates also resulted in lower NDVI readings, shorter heights at R7, and greater change and relative change of NDVI. Only when planting date drastically affected emergence percentage did planting date affect yield. The seed treatment with a fungicide increased both emergence percentage and yield but only for the 4 May 2002 planting date. Forward stepwise linear regression analyses produced several significant models using EC a and DEMs, but were quite variable and differed depending on weather conditions associated with planting dates and years. Book Soybean Production in the Midsouth

Download or read book Soybean Production in the Midsouth written by Larry G. Heatherly and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-09-29 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compiles information relevant to understanding soybean production processes and condenses it into a single volume. The authors identify production practices and bring together diverse information that suggests ways for producers to better utilize the soil and climatic resources of the midsouthern U.S. to enhance production of this valuable and versatile crop. This publication makes a special effort to focus on information that will enhance soybean production in the midsouth, where yields have been lower than those in the upper midwester n portion of the U.S., however, much of the information, such as statistics and crop models, will be applicable to other regions, from Texas to the Carolinas.

Download or read book Soybean Seed Composition written by Moulay Abdelmajid Kassem and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-10 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soybean Seed Composition covers three decades of advances in quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping of seed protein, oil, fatty acids, amino acids, sugars, mineral nutrients, isoflavones, lunasin, and other beneficial compounds. It opens with coverage of seed protein, oil, fatty acids, and amino acids and the effects that genetic and environmental factors have on them. Detailed discussion of QTL that control seed protein, oil, and fatty acids follows, and the book also covers seed amino acids, macronutrients, micronutrients, sugars, and other compounds that are key to selection for crop improvement. The book also provides an overview of two decades of QTL mapping of mineral deficiencies in soybean, which sheds light on the importance of a balanced mineral nutrition in soybean and other crops, elucidates salt stress tolerance QTL mapping, which is another challenge that faces soybean and other crop production worldwide. The importance of soybean seed isoflavones from their biosynthesis and quantification methods to locations and variations in seeds, roots, and leaves, to their QTL mapping is discussed, as well as providing key information on lunasin, a bioactive anticancer peptide in soybean seeds that will help farmers and breeders to develop soybean cultivars with improved seed isoflavones and lunasin content. The book will be of interest to graduate students, academics, and researchers in the fields of genetic and QTL mapping of important agronomic traits in soybean and other crops.
