Book Embracing the Ivory Tower and Stained Glass Windows

Download or read book Embracing the Ivory Tower and Stained Glass Windows written by Jennifer Baldwin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together contributions from scholars from Europe and the United States to honor the theological work of Antje Jackelén, the first female Archbishop of the Church of Sweden. In Archbishop Antje Jackelén’s installation homily, she identifies the strength of the Church as a “global network of prayer threads.” This book is an honorary and celebratory volume providing a “global network of prayerful essays” by contributors from a variety of academic disciplines to creatively engage, reflect, and illuminate the theological work of Archbishop Jackelén. Prior to her tenure in the Church of Sweden as Bishop of the Diocese of Lund and now the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Jackelén served as professor of Systematic Theology, Director of the Zygon Center and President of European Society for the Study of Science and Religion (ESSSAT). While each essay intentionally embraces the theological and ministerial work of Jackelén during her academic tenure, they also venture into areas as diverse as climate change, media studies, human uniqueness, hermeneutics, time, ethics, Christian theological tradition and history, traumatology, politics and society. As the first diverse explication of the theological thinking of Archbishop Jackelén by her theological colleagues, this text provides scholars with an expansion of the scope of Archbishop Jackelén’s theological thinking and initiates laity into the impact of Jackelén thinking that combines with grace and precision the traditions of the Church, the challenges and gifts of the sciences, and the needs and longings of society and the world.

Book Critique of Pure Reason

Download or read book Critique of Pure Reason written by Immanuel Kant and published by . This book was released on 1901 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metaphysicians have for centuries attempted to clarify the nature of the world and how rational human beings construct their ideas of it. Materialists believed that the world (including its human component) consisted of objective matter, an irreducible substance to which qualities and characteristics could be attributed. Mindthoughts, ideas, and perceptionswas viewed as a more sophisticated material substance. Idealists, on the other hand, argued that the world acquired its reality from mind, which breathed metaphysical life into substances that had no independent existence of their own. These two camps seemed deadlocked until Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason endeavored to show that the most accurate theory of reality would be one that combined relevant aspects of each position, yet transcended both to arrive at a more fundamental metaphysical theory. Kant's synthesis sought to disclose how human reason goes about constructing its experience of the world, thus intertwining objective simuli with rational processes that arrive at an orderly view of nature.

Book Essay about the art of embracing people

Download or read book Essay about the art of embracing people written by Adrian Luna and published by Adrian Luna. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Are you looking for an Argentine Tango teacher? • Do you want to learn to dance tango? • Are you looking for a private tango lesson? • How to know who a good tango teacher is? • Do you want to become a tango teacher? Then you can read this book! NOTIFICATION: This is not a tango book, nor about how to learn the steps to dance tango in Buenos Aires. This is a book about people, human beings who embrace and relate in a very particular way in an "environment" with their own rules. In the Coach, I find a professional and appropriate figure to accompany us in learning this "language." I consider it appropriate to compare him with a gardener who knows about the weather, the seasons and irrigation techniques, among many other things. It is taken with seriousness and professionalism to prepare the ground to offer the seed the conditions that satisfy and accompany its development. He is a great observer and takes into account even the smallest details. However, he has confidence and believes in the potential that exists within the seed. He doesn't need to see what it has inside or check how much fruit it's going to produce... This mystery seems wonderful to me and is revealed little by little during the process of germination and growth. This essay is, on the one hand, for those who are "gardeners" by vocation, with whom I wish to seriously develop this activity. On the other hand, it's for those people who want to learn to dance the tango and have no idea where or who to start with. Through this path we can end up getting to know ourselves a little more. Be attentive! WARNING: By knowing the tango you are in serious risk of falling in love with the activity, its music and its people.
