As she leads others through her varied experiences, DeVito also documents the world’s most significant events over the past sixty years and how they impacted her life as she spent her childhood in Penang, trained to be a nurse and then beauty therapist, owned a shop, navigated through romantic relationships and family dynamics, and experienced many adventures that included falling in a river full of crocodiles and traveling the world. Book excerpt: Poof! By: Leonard Archie Wilson In June 2004, Leonard Archie Wilson underwent open heart surgery for heart failure, often referred to as a cabbage by the medical community, the kind of operation that leaves the patient with a zipper scar on the chest. The operation was successful, but while unconscious, Leonard had the first of many vivid dreams over a fourteen year period. This book is a compilation of those dreams. They range from the mundane to the mystical. At the urging of his daughter, Jacqueline, he kept a journal on his bedside table in which he wrote contemporaneously as he woke from each dream. This book cannot be accurately described as fiction nor is it biographical. They are real experiences, they are dreams. You will find that Poof! is a rollercoaster ride of mystical and imaginative events, buckle up and enjoy.

Book The British Folk Revival 1944 2002

Download or read book The British Folk Revival 1944 2002 written by Michael Brocken and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. This work considers the post-war folk revival in Britain from a popular music studies perspective. Michael Brocken provides a historical narrative of the folk revival from the 1940s up until the 1990s, beginning with the emergence of the revival from within and around the left-wing movements of the 1940s and 1950s. Key figures and organizations such as the Workers' Music Association, the BBC, the English Folk Dance and Song Society, A.L. Lloyd and Ewan MacColl are examined closely. By looking at the work of British Communist Party splinter groups it is possible to see the refraction of folk music as a political tool. Brocken openly challenges folk historicity and internal narrative by discussing the convergence of folk and pop during the 1950s and 1960s. The significant development of the folk/rock hybrid is considered alongside "class", "Americana", radio and the strength of pop culture. Brocken shows how the dichotomy of artistic (natural) versus industry (mass-produced) music since the 1970s has led to a fragmentation and constriction of the folk revival. The study concludes with a look at the upsurge of the folk music industry, the growth of festivals and the implications of the Internet for the British folk revival. Brocken suggests the way forward should involve an acknowledgement that folk music is not superior to but is, in fact, a form of popular music.

Consummate teachers, the Suttons use the same easy-to-understand style that has made both of their previous books in the How to Spot series bestsellers. Taking up where field guides leave off, they reveal which habitats are sure to hold large butterfly populations and which specific host plants attract butterflies. They address how to use binoculars and share the secrets of how to approach a butterfly without scaring it off. Environmentally sensitive and unobtrusive observation is emphasized, not outdated netting and collecting. Exceptional nectar sources, which are feeding grounds for vast numbers of butterflies, are described. Full-color photographs appear throughout. The Suttons' proven butterfly-watching techniques

The new 'anti-memory' or 'pre-call' viewpoint can readily demystify much of the previously mysterious experience of intuition - while bringing the paranormal into congruence with normal science as never before. Specifically it permits a first ever psychological exploration of Einstein's Theory of Relativity - which broadly holds that "Time does not pass, though people do!" This book is written in a very simple style to be accessible to all. So that if you've ever experienced intuition and wondered what it might signify, you'll find a startling new answer here.
