Book Nine Mathematical Challenges An Elucidation

Download or read book Nine Mathematical Challenges An Elucidation written by A. Kechris and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume stems from the Linde Hall Inaugural Math Symposium, held from February 22–24, 2019, at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California. The content isolates and discusses nine mathematical problems, or sets of problems, in a deep way, but starting from scratch. Included among them are the well-known problems of the classification of finite groups, the Navier-Stokes equations, the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, and the continuum hypothesis. The other five problems, also of substantial importance, concern the Lieb–Thirring inequalities, the equidistribution problems in number theory, surface bundles, ramification in covers and curves, and the gap and type problems in Fourier analysis. The problems are explained succinctly, with a discussion of what is known and an elucidation of the outstanding issues. An attempt is made to appeal to a wide audience, both in terms of the field of expertise and the level of the reader.

Book Elucidation of Abiotic Stress Signaling in Plants

Download or read book Elucidation of Abiotic Stress Signaling in Plants written by Girdhar K. Pandey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-30 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abiotic stresses such as high temperature, low-temperature, drought, and salinity limit crop productivity worldwide. Understanding plant responses to these stresses is essential for rational engineering of crop plants. In Arabidopsis, the signal transduction pathways for abiotic stresses, light, several phytohormones and pathogenesis have been elucidated. A significant portion of plant genomes (most studies are Arabidopsis and rice genome) encodes for proteins involves in signaling such as receptor, sensors, kinases, phosphatases, transcription factors and transporters/channels. Despite decades of physiological and molecular effort, knowledge pertaining to how plants sense and transduce low and high temperature, low-water availability (drought), water-submergence and salinity signals is still a major question before plant biologists. One major constraint hampering our understanding of these signal transduction processes in plants has been the lack or slow pace of application of molecular genomic and genetics knowledge in the form of gene function. In the post-genomic era, one of the major challenges is investigation and understanding of multiple genes and gene families regulating a particular physiological and developmental aspect of plant life cycle. One of the important physiological processes is regulation of stress response, which leads to adaptation or adjustment in response to adverse stimuli. With the holistic understanding of the signaling pathways involving not only one gene family but multiple genes or gene families, plant biologists can lay a foundation for designing and generating future crops that can withstand the higher degree of environmental stresses (especially abiotic stresses, which are the major cause of crop loss throughout the world) without losing crop yield and productivity.

Book Methods for Structure Elucidation by High Resolution NMR

Download or read book Methods for Structure Elucidation by High Resolution NMR written by G. Batta and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-12-04 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) is now widely regarded as having evolved into a subscience. The field has become immensely diverse, ranging from medical use through solid state NMR to liquid state applications, with countless books and scientific journals devoted to these topics. Theoretical as well as experimental advance continues to be rapid, and has in fact accelerated by many novel innovations. This multi-authored book focuses on the latest developments in the rapidly evolving field of high resolution NMR, specifically with a view to applications on the structure elucidation of organic molecules of moderate molecular weight. Conceptually it differs from basic educational texts, hard-core scientific papers and regular review articles in that each chapter may be regarded as the authors' personal account of their special insights and results that crystallised after several years of research into a given topic. The book revolves around several themes and offers a handful of scientific "gems" of various colors, reflecting the great diversity of NMR. It contains 16 loosely connected chapters written by some of today's most accomplished NMR scientists in the world. Each chapter is a unique synthesis of the authors' previous research results in the given field, and thus projects special insights. Much emphasis has been given to the latest developments in NMR, in particular to selective pulses and pulsed field gradients. As a part of the series "Analytical Spectroscopy Library", with subsequent editions coming along this book should provide a platform for future research accounts of similar flavor. The material is presented in a mostly non-mathematical fashion, and is intended mainly for chemists, application NMR scientists and students with already some background in NMR. Some of the chapters slightly overlap in the discussed topics, which is particularly exciting in terms of gaining insight into the same area from different angles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since it first appeared over 500 years ago, the Elucidation of Necromancy (Lucidarium artis Nigromantice) and the closely related Heptameron have become essential guides for individuals seeking to call on angels and other supernatural beings for help. Countless amulets and pendants have been made with its designs, and elements have repeatedly been adapted and incorporated into other manuals of ritual magic. In spite of this, neither a critical edition nor a translation has been previously published. In particular three manuscripts of Lucidarium have come to light recently, which provide a clearer and fuller ritual than the printed Heptameron. For example, they add critical instructions for making the seven angel sigils, which have become so widely known. Together they bring to life this important current of esoteric tradition, showing how it has been repeatedly adapted and used by different individuals for centuries.
