Book Principles of Physical Optics

Download or read book Principles of Physical Optics written by Albie Reid and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical optics is a branch of optics that studies optical phenomena, such as polarization, interference, diffraction, dispersion, scattering, etc. All these phenomena cannot be explained by using the approximations of geometric optics. In physical optics, the wave property of light is considered. Light waves are electromagnetic waves. The interaction of light with materials involves the modeling of both electric and magnetic fields of the light wave. When the propagation of light in systems cannot be solved analytically, numerical modeling techniques are used. These include the boundary element method, finite element method and the transmission-line matrix method. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex theories and principles in the field of physical optics. It aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of this field. It aims to serve as a resource guide for students and experts alike and contribute to the growth of the discipline.

Book Foundations for Learning with Student Access Code

Download or read book Foundations for Learning with Student Access Code written by Laurie L. Hazard and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 2012-08-12 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is appropriate for courses in First-Year Experience, College Success, and Study Skills. The focus of Foundations for Learning is on academic adjustment with personal development issues seamlessly integrated into the academic emphasis theme of 'claiming an education' and taking responsibility for one's own education. Foundations for Learning addresses both the attitudinal variables and personality traits that affect college achievement like locus of control, conceptions of intelligence, and intellectual curiosity in relation to specific study-related behaviors such as text annotation and active listening. At its core, this text is based on the psychology of adjustment. Students are pushed to consider how each mindset, perception, and attitude connects with their skill sets, and how one influences the other. The text encourages students to use this insight to make the necessary adjustments to their new role as college students. It offers an acute awareness of first-year student needs, an intellectual approach, and a tight framework. It is primarily focused on the development of academic adjustment issues and meta-cognitive strategies as they naturally unfold during the first semester, as opposed to primarily focusing on social adjustment issues or issues that aren't immediately relevant such as career development and is written in a challenging yet accessible way. This revision covers emerging technologies, broadens its audience, and more.

Book Inspecting Jews

    Book Details:
  • Author : Laurence Roth
  • Publisher : Rutgers University Press
  • Release : 2004
  • ISBN : 9780813533698
  • Pages : 310 pages

Download or read book Inspecting Jews written by Laurence Roth and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inthis book, Laurence Roth argues that the popular genre of Jewish detective stories offers new insights into the construction of ethnic and religious identity. Roth frames his study with the concept of "kosher hybridity" to look at the complex process of mediation between Jewish and American culture in which Jewish writers voice the desire to be both different from and yet the same as other Americans. He argues that the detective story, located at the intersection of narrative and popular culture in modern America, examines the need for order in a disorderly society, and thus offers a window into the negotiation of Jewish identity differing from that of literary fiction. The writers of these popular cultural texts, which are informed by contradiction and which thrive on intended and unintended ironies, formulate idioms for American Jewish identities that intentionally and unintentionally create social, ethnic, and religious syntheses in American Jewish life. Roth examines stories about American Jewish detectives--including Harry Kemelman's Rabbi Small, Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus, Stuart Kaminsky's Abe Lieberman, and Rochelle Krich's Jessica Drake--not only as a genre of literature but also as a reflection of contemporary acculturation in the American Jewish popular arts.

Remediation of DNAPL source zones is very difficult and controversial and must be based on state-of-the-art knowledge of the behavior (transport and fate) of nonaqueous phase liquids in the subsurface and site specific geology, chemistry and hydrology. This volume is focused on the characterization and remediation of nonaqueous phase chlorinated solvents and it is hoped that mid-level engineers and scientists will find this book helpful in understanding the current state-of-practice of DNAPL source zone management and remediation.
