Book Elijah the Reformer a Ballad Epic and Other Sacred and Religious Poems

This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composer George Lansing Taylor's epic ballad-biography of the Prophet Elijah, and his finest poetic verse narrating events of the Old Testament, are presented here complete. A superb collection of religious songs and hymns, this book communicates the drama and gravity of the Biblical events narrated. The character of Elijah and others is eloquently depicted in a fast flowing poetic narration that holds its subjects in due reverence, their sacred station respected and honored by the lyrics. Throughout the book we receive notes on the Biblical passages concerned, with the Book of Kings, Judges and Revelation alluded to. Taylor, as much a Biblical scholar as a talented lyricist, is keen to emphasize the accuracy of his verse. Annotations include insights as to Elijah's origins, including the indications from sources that he was born to a non-Hebrew tribe. After the principle text, we are treated to a variety of Taylor's other works. Events such as the conflicts with Egypt depicted in Exodus, to the migrations of the Jewish peoples to the lands of Canaan, are dramatized in verse. With the stories succinctly expressed in poems, the reader may better memorize and follow the Biblical canon, and gain respect for the poet's understanding of the Lord God. The author spent his life professionally composing hymns and songs for a variety of Christian groups in the United States. Educated in Columbia College, he worked as a Methodist minister and published multiple books of poetry. Though much of his work is now obscure, Taylor's talents remain clear and evident to the interested reader.

Book Elijah of the Alps

Book excerpt: William Farel (1489-1565) was a French evangelist, and a founder of the Reformed Church in the cantons of NeuchGtel, Berne and Geneva, and the Canton of Vaud Switzerland. He is most often remembered for having persuaded John Calvin to remain in Geneva in 1536, and for persuading him to return there in 1541, after their expulsion in 1538. Together with Calvin, Farel worked to train missionary preachers who spread the Protestant cause to other countries, and especially to France. Farel was a fiery preacher and an energetic critic of the Roman Catholic Church. In the earliest years of the Reformation in France, he was a pupil of the pro-reform Catholic priest, Jacques Lefevre d'Etaples. While working with Lefevre in Meaux, he came under the influence of Lutheran ideas and became an avid promoter of them. He was forced to flee to Switzerland because of controversy that was aroused by his writings against the use of images in Christian worship.

They are short spiritual shots designed to help you grow in faith and pursue revival and reformation. For all Christians, but written with a masculine edge. It's the 9th Century BC. The future of a people is uncertain. The king inherits the unstable throne of an apostate nation. Will he listen to the whispers of his royal witch and lead them further under judgment's dark clouds? Or, will he hear the words of the rugged prophet from Gilead and lead his backslidden people in repentance, revival, and reformation? 'Honestly, it has been a long time since I read such a firecracker of a book.' -Rev Dr Jules Gomes,Faculty member for the Oxford Centre for Religion & Public Life 'Joshua Jones writes with the same spirit as some of the great prophetic voices of the last century: David Wilkerson, Leonard Ravenhill, Keith Green etc. Yet the subjects he speaks into are timely for the Church of this century.'-Evangelist Andrew Murray, www.generationbuilders.org 'This book is essential reading for anyone who is serious about putting on some spiritual muscle, isn't afraid of confronting our culture's sacred cows and who wants to walk worthy of the high call in Christ Jesus.
