Book A Guide to the Dead Sea Scrolls and Related Literature

Download or read book A Guide to the Dead Sea Scrolls and Related Literature written by Joseph A. Fitzmyer and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dead Sea Scrolls are found in many varied publications -- often ordered only by publication date, rather than a more easily navigable system -- making specific texts difficult to find. Joseph Fitzmyer's guide offers a practical remedy to this dilemma. A Guide to the Dead Sea Scrolls and Related Literature starts by explaining the conventional system of abbreviations for the Scrolls. Then it helpfully lists specifically where readers can find each of the Scrolls and fragmentary texts from the eleven caves of Qumran and all the related sites, using the officially assigned numbers of the text. Fitzmyer supplies information on study tools helpful for scholars -- concordances, dictionaries, translations, outlines of longer texts, and more -- and briefly indicates electronic resources for the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The process they present incorporates various methods of biblical study to help readers hear the message of the Bible on its own terms.

Book New Techniques for Proving Plagiarism

Download or read book New Techniques for Proving Plagiarism written by M. V. Dougherty and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-05-23 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates that the principles of textual criticism—borrowed from the fields of classics and medieval studies—have a valuable application for plagiarism investigations. Plagiarists share key features with medieval scribes who worked in scriptoriums and produced copies of manuscripts. Both kinds of copyists—scribes and plagiarists—engage in similar processes, and they commit distinctive copying errors. When committed by plagiarists, these copying errors have probative value for making determinations that a text is copied, and hence, unoriginal. To show the efficacy of the newly proposed techniques for proving plagiarism, case studies are drawn from philosophy, theology, and canon law.

Book Languages and Cultures of Eastern Christianity Ethiopian

Download or read book Languages and Cultures of Eastern Christianity Ethiopian written by Alessandro Bausi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together a set of contributions, many appearing in English for the first time, together with a new introduction, covering the history of the Ethiopian Christian civilization in its formative period (300-1500 AD). Rooted in the late antique kingdom of Aksum (present day Northern Ethiopia and Eritrea), and lying between Byzantium, Africa and the Near East, this civilization is presented in a series of case studies. At a time when philological and linguistic investigations are being challenged by new approaches in Ethiopian studies, this volume emphasizes the necessity of basic research, while avoiding the reduction of cultural questions to matters of fact and detail.
