Book excerpt: Excerpt from Histology: Normal and Morbid During life all parts of the human body are the seat of constant activity. This is a fact too readily overlooked by the student who gains his knowledge of the structures of the body by a study of the tissues after death. T 0 make that study of use to him in his medi cal thinking he should constantly bear in mind that he is Viewing the mechanism of the body While it is at rest, and, furthermore, that the methods employed in the study of the minute structure of the parts not only arrest the normal activities of those parts, but expose them to mutilation. He must, therefore, constantly supple ment the knowledge of structure he gains by his histological studies by recalling to mind and applying that which he has acquired by a study of physiology, habitually associating his ideas of structure and functional activity, until he can hardly think of what a struct ure is Without at once recalling what it does. This he cannot do till he has mastered at least the general outlines of systematic anatomy and of physiology. Those two fundamental subjects are brought together by an intelligent study of the minute structure of the body, histology, which, for this reason, has also and appro priately been called physiological anatomy. Book The Elements of Pathological Histology

Download or read book The Elements of Pathological Histology written by Anton Weichselbaum and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Pathological Histology: With Special Reference to Practical Methods Apology or comment seems scarcely necessary in introducing to English readers a work of so well-established a reputation as Professor Weichselbaum's Grundriss der Pathologischen Histologic. Neither has it been thought needful or desirable to make many additions, and, consequently, the only ones of any length are the note on the Gum Freezing Method on p. 24 (which the popularity of that method in this country seemed to demand), and the very brief account of Dr. Bevan Lewis's useful process appended to the chapter on the Nervous System (p. 351). Some insertions in the text, chiefly relating to terminology, have been distinguished by square brackets when it seemed worth while, and a few foot-notes similarly and with the letters " - Tr." following. Under the former head may be noted the exact zoological names of the animal parasites, which, when differing from the more popular designations, have been appended to the latter, and for which, as well as for the facts mentioned in the note on p. 180, I am indebted to Professor H. M. Mackintosh, of the University of Dublin, who kindly revised the chapter in question. Some alterations, however, have been made in the typography and arrangement. Thus the work has been thrown into chapters, English fashion (though these correspond for the most part with the Abschnitte in the original), and long sections have in some instances been broken up into two or more. It has also been thought advisable to print the practical portions in a smaller type than the descriptive, which it is hoped will facilitate reference. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Pathology This little work does not pretend to be a text-book. The author expects, rather, that the majority of his readers are already conversant with the subjects herein treated. Nor is it desired to compete with any of the excellent treatises on this branch of medicine which have appeared in such gratifying numbers during the last few years. His aim has been simply to establish the natural groundwork which must exist in this, as well as in every natural science, and to place it in as clear a light as possible. These efforts have, in the course of several years, culminated in this little book, which is now issued with the hope of eliciting the opinions of his confreres. Book The Principles of Pathologic Histology Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Principles of Pathologic Histology Classic Reprint written by Frank Burr Mallory and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Pathologic Histology If the injurious agent is within the circulation, the reaction between it and the elements of the blood takes place there. Under this condition the resulting injury is usually difficult or impossible of demonstration, because it may have been produced only on the elements of the blood, and the, reaction is so generally distributed in the circulation that often little or no effect is visible. When, however, the injurious agent is outside of the circula tion, it is usually rather sharply localized in one focus or another, and the injury is often marked. The elements of the blood, in order to reach the injurious agent, must escape from the blood vessels. As a result they accumulate in the affected area, and in this way striking lesions are often produced. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Text Book of Histology Including Microscopic Technic Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Histology Including Microscopic Technic Classic Reprint written by Alexander A. Böhm and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Histology, Including Microscopic Technic The favorable reception accorded to the first American edition of Bohm and Davidoff's d104-book of Histology has justified the assumption expressed by the editor in his preface to the former edition, that an English translation of this work would meet with approval from American and English teachers and students. In the preparation of this second American edition the editor has retained in general the same arrangement of the subject-matter as presented in the former edition. The revision of the text has given opportunity to take cognizance of the many contributions to our knowledge of the ultimate structure of tissues and organs and of their histogenesis which have appeared in recent years, and in doing so, many of the chapters, especially those dealing with general histology, have been subjected to extensive alterations. Recognition has also been given to the results obtained by the use of precise methods of plastic reproduction, methods which have been especially useful in giving clearer and more accurate conceptions of the form and relationship of anatomic structures, too small and too delicate to admit of disassociation by means of methods of maceration and teasing and too complicated to admit of full interpretation by means of sections. Maziarski's observations on the form and relationship of the ultimate divisions of the tubular systems of many of the more important glands have been embodied, also the results of numerous reconstructions made in the Histological Laboratory of the University of Michigan. The text of this edition has been extended by some forty pages, and the illustrations have been increased from three hundred and fifty-one to three hundred and seventy-seven. Recognizing the fact that a text-book of Histology is a book which of necessity needs to be constantly used in the laboratory, and its size is, therefore, a matter of some importance, the editor seemed justified, in view of the fact that an increase in the number of text-pages seemed inevitable, to dispense in the present edition with the list of references to the literature (some twenty pages) which appeared in the former edition. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Quain's Elements of Anatomy, Vol. 1 of 3: Part II. General Anatomy or Histology The epithelial tissues. The connective tissues. The muscular tissues. The nervous tissues. Particles which are met with in the uids of the body, such as the corpuscles in the blood and lymph, are also described amongst the elementary tissues. Many of the organs are formed wholly of a single one of these elementary tissues, or with a comparatively slight intermixture of others. Thus the muscles are made up almost entirely of muscular tissue, with but a small intermixture of connective tissue, blood-vessels and nerves whilst the cartilages are composed wholly of a variety of connective tissue. On the other hand, there are certain organs or parts of the body not in themselves distinguished by the preponderance of any special tissue. Book Manual of Pathological Histology Vol 1

Download or read book Manual of Pathological Histology Vol 1 written by V. Cornil and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Pathological Histology, Vol. 1: General Pathological Histology, Lesions of the Elements and Tissues The first edition of this manual was published in three parts; the first in 1869, the second in 1873, and the third in 1876. It has been very favourably received by the French medical public, and the successive issues demanded have afforded us the satisfaction of seeing that we have succeeded in making the most important data of pathological histology part of the ordinary knowledge of students. The first edition is now out of date and no longer abreast of science, so that we have been obliged almost entirely to recast the work. The general account of normal histology placed at the beginning of the first volume has been remodelled and brought up to the level of the progress made in the last ten years. In this decennial period normal histology has made relatively greater progress than pathological histology, but the latter, which is based on the former, and which borrows from it not only its discoveries but its methods, has also undergone great changes. Thus in some chapters we have preserved nothing but the heading, and we have added many chapters which were not in the first edition. Many new illustrations have been added, and in every detail we have striven to make the second edition worthy of the success which attended the first. The entire work forms two volumes: the first contains the general pathological anatomy of the tissues; the second will include the pathological histology of the organs. Book Histology and Histochemistry of Man Classic Reprint

Download or read book Histology and Histochemistry of Man Classic Reprint written by Heinrich Frey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Histology and Histochemistry of Man But again, bones, cartilages, muscles, and nerves were observed each to be made up of smaller parts, and it became necessary to resolve them into those ultimate elements of form of which they are composed, in such a manner as to be able to recognise the latter in various situations. Thus the conception of an animal tissue originated, and with it the consideration of tissues, or histology, as a special branch of anatomical study. This, although the most important part, constitutes by no means the whole of general anatomy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Compendium of Human Histology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Compendium of Human Histology Classic Reprint written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Compendium of Human Histology I have prepared M. Morel's Compendium of Histology for the use of the American medical student in consequence of the excellence and fidelity of its plates, and the clear and concise manner in which all that is positively known of the science, up to the present moment, is set forth in the text. An original work of the same character and similarly illustrated would involve a much greater expense, even if the same degree of merit could have been attained. Histology, at the present day, is the progressive department of anatomical science, and its rapidly accumulating facts form the basis of modem physiology and pathology. Still in its youth, it is advancing steadily from year to year, and to keep pace with its progress, we must draw constantly upon all reliable sources of information.
