Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When faced with danger you must DO something. The teacher at the Ant Hill School wants her students to be prepared - for everything! One day, she teaches her students what to do if a "dangerous someone" is in their school. "I'll be your shepherd, and you're all my sheep, so you must do what I say. Pretend there's a wolf in our building, and we MUST stay out of his way!" "We need a great plan of action in case we start to get scared. The ALICE Plan will work the best, to help us be prepared." Unfortunately, in the world we now live in, we must ask the essential question: What are the options for survival if we find ourselves in a violent intruder event? I'm Not Scared...I'm Prepared! will enhance the ALICE concepts and make them applicable to children of all ages in a non-fearful way. By using this book, children can develop a better understanding of what needs to be done if they ever encounter a "dangerous someone."

Book EBOOK Science for Primary School Teachers

Download or read book EBOOK Science for Primary School Teachers written by Helena Gillespie and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2007-12-16 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do I need to know about science to teach children in primary school? How can I make my science teaching successful? How do children learn to investigate scientifically? What are the dos and don’ts of science teaching? Written to support teachers who need to boost their science knowledge, this book covers science knowledge in sufficient breadth and depth to enable you to teach science effectively up to the end of Key Stage 2, as well as the core teaching and learning issues involved in the investigative process. Whether you are a student or a fully qualified teacher, the book is designed to help you find what you need quickly. The introduction provides a guide to how to use the book, including a table which cross references the subject knowledge against the National Curriculum, the QCA Scheme of Work and Primary Science Topics. This enables you to use the book in different ways, depending on your individual requirements. To ensure that teachers will be able to teach and respond to questions appropriately, the authors take science knowledge beyond what is required for Key Stage 2. This is important, as it helps to avoid over-simplifying concepts which can then cause misconceptions at Key Stage 3 and beyond. It also helps to broaden and develop the primary teacher’s own knowledge. Science for Primary School Teachers is a core text for teachers in training, and in professional development into the induction year and beyond.

Book And Sadly Teach

Download or read book And Sadly Teach written by Jurgen Herbst and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To lend weight to his charge that the public school teacher has been betrayed and gravity to his indictment of the educational establishment for that betrayal, Jurgen Herbst goes back to the beginnings of teacher education in America in the 1830s and traces its evolution up to the 1920s, by which time the essential damage had been done. Initially, attempts were made to upgrade public school teaching to a genuine profession, but that ideal was gradually abandoned. In its stead, with the advent of newly emerging graduate schools of education in the early decades of the twentieth century, came the so-called professionalization of public education. At the expense of the training of elementary school teachers (mostly women), teacher educators shifted their attention to the turning out of educational "specialists" (mostly men)--administrators, faculty members at normal schools and teachers colleges, adult education teachers, and educational researchers. Ultimately a history of the neglect of the American public school teacher, And Sadly Teach ends with a plea and a message that ring loud and clear. The plea: that the current reform proposals for American teacher education--the Carnegie and the Holmes reports--be heeded. The message: that the key to successful school reform lies in educating teacher's true professionals and in acknowledging them as such in their classrooms.
