Book Elementary Mechanics of Solids

Download or read book Elementary Mechanics of Solids written by P. P. Benham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Mechanics of Solids presents the three fundamental principles, namely, equilibrium of forces, stress-strain relationship, and geometry and compatibility of deformations. This book discusses the concept of simplifying assumptions about behavior to obtain the simpler engineering solutions. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the theory of elasticity. This text then presents a detailed discussion of biaxial stress and strain systems as well as the generalized stress-strain relationships. Other chapters consider the determination of deflections of straight and curved beams due to shearing and bending action. This book discusses as well the elastic torsion of various thin-walled closed and open sections as well as the shaft of solid circular cross section. The final chapter discusses some cases in which the combined effects of torsion and bending occur. This book is a valuable resource for students who wish to obtain a university degree in engineering, diploma of technology, or higher national certificate.

Book Elementary Continuum Mechanics for Everyone

Download or read book Elementary Continuum Mechanics for Everyone written by Esben Byskov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-03 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book opens with a derivation of kinematically nonlinear 3-D continuum mechanics for solids. Then the principle of virtual work is utilized to derive the simpler, kinematically linear 3-D theory and to provide the foundation for developing consistent theories of kinematic nonlinearity and linearity for specialized continua, such as beams and plates, and finite element methods for these structures. A formulation in terms of the versatile Budiansky-Hutchinson notation is used as basis for the theories for these structures and structural elements, as well as for an in-depth treatment of structural instability.

Book Mechanics of Solids and Fluids

Download or read book Mechanics of Solids and Fluids written by Franz Ziegler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unified presentation of the concepts and most of the practicable principles common to all branches of solid and fluid should be appealing to advanced undergraduate mechanics. Its design students in engineering science and should also enhance the insight of both graduate students and practitioners. A profound knowledge of applied mechanics as understood in this book may help to cultivate the versatility that the engineering community must possess in this modern world of high-technology. This book is, in fact, a reviewed and extensively improved second edition, but it can also be regarded as the first edition in English, translated by the author himself from the original German version, "Technische Mechanik der festen und flOssigen Korper," published by Springer-Verlag, Wien, in 1985. Although this book grew out of lecture notes for a three semester course for advanced undergraduate students taught by the author and several colleagues during the past 20 years, it contains sufficient material for a subsequent two-semester graduate course. The only prerequisites are basic algebra and analysis as usually taught in the first year of an undergraduate engineering curriculum. Advanced mathematics as it is required in the progress of mechanics teaching may be taught in parallel classes, but also an introduction into the art of design should be offered at that stage.

Book Engineering Solid Mechanics

Download or read book Engineering Solid Mechanics written by Abdel-Rahman A. Ragab and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Solid Mechanics bridges the gap between elementary approaches to strength of materials and more advanced, specialized versions on the subject. The book provides a basic understanding of the fundamentals of elasticity and plasticity, applies these fundamentals to solve analytically a spectrum of engineering problems, and introduces advanced topics of mechanics of materials - including fracture mechanics, creep, superplasticity, fiber reinforced composites, powder compacts, and porous solids. Text includes: stress and strain, equilibrium, and compatibility elastic stress-strain relations the elastic problem and the stress function approach to solving plane elastic problems applications of the stress function solution in Cartesian and polar coordinates Problems of elastic rods, plates, and shells through formulating a strain compatibility function as well as applying energy methods Elastic and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics Plastic and creep deformation Inelastic deformation and its applications This book presents the material in an instructive manner, suitable for individual self-study. It emphasizes analytical treatment of the subject, which is essential for handling modern numerical methods as well as assessing and creating software packages. The authors provide generous explanations, systematic derivations, and detailed discussions, supplemented by a vast variety of problems and solved examples. Primarily written for professionals and students in mechanical engineering, Engineering Solid Mechanics also serves persons in other fields of engineering, such as aerospace, civil, and material engineering.

Book Elementary Mechanics of Solids Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elementary Mechanics of Solids Classic Reprint written by W. T. An; Emtage and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Mechanics of Solids This book has been written after many years' experience in teaching Theoretical Mechanics to students of a great variety of ages and attainments. I attach great importance to the value of carefully selected and carefully explained examples, and throughout the book numerous examples will be found worked out and accompanied by notes on the processes employed in their solution. In addition to these, there are nearly five hundred questions for exercise. Many of these questions are taken from examination papers, the source being always clearly stated. In the teaching of any branch of science the value of experimental illustrations has now come to be fully recognized; and I have described upwards of forty experiments which may all be performed by teacher or student with the help of very inexpensive apparatus. At the same time more elaborate apparatus may be used, when it is available, to illustrate much of the subject matter. The book will be found to contain all the subjects in the syllabus of the Elementary Stage of Theoretical Mechanics of Solids of the Board of Education, South Kensington; while, to increase its usefulness and to adapt it to the requirements of students for other examinations, the theoretical proofs of many propositions have been added. It may be read without any mathematical attainments beyond an ability to solve easy algebraical equations, except that in a few instances easy quadratics and the properties of similar triangles have been employed. My thanks are due to Prof. E. A. Gregory and Mr. A. T. Simmons, B.Sc., who have helped me by many valuable suggestions during the preparation of the book.
