Download or read book Hadronic Structure written by José L. Goity and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains lectures presented at the 14th Annual Hampton University Graduate Studies at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (HUGS at CEBAF), that took place at Jefferson Lab and Hampton University from June 1st to 18th, 1999. The programme was focused on the structure of hadrons from the low to the high energy regimes, including a balance of theory and experiment, and emphasized topics in electron scattering on the nucleon and nuclei.
Download or read book The Rise of the Standard Model written by Lillian Hoddeson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-11-13 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Editors Laurie Brown, Max Dresden, Lillian Hoddeson and Michael Riordan have brought together a distinguished group of elementary particle physicists and historians of science to explore the recent history of particle physics. Based on a conference held at Stanford University, this is the third volume of a series recounting the history of particle physics and offers the most up-to-date account of the rise of the Standard Model, which explains the microstructure of the world in terms of quarks and leptons and their interactions. Major contributors include Steven Weinberg, Murray Gell-Mann, Michael Redhead, Silvan Schweber, Leon Lederman and John Heilbron. The wide-ranging articles explore the detailed scientific experiments, the institutional settings in which they took place, and the ways in which the many details of the puzzle fit together to account for the Standard Model.
Download or read book A Primer for Chiral Perturbation Theory written by Stefan Scherer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chiral Perturbation Theory, as effective field theory, is a commonly accepted and well established working tool, approximating quantum chromodynamics at energies well below typical hadron masses. This volume, based on a number of lectures and supplemented with additional material, provides a pedagogical introduction for graduate students and newcomers entering the field from related areas of nuclear and particle physics. Starting with the the Lagrangian of the strong interactions and general symmetry principles, the basic concepts of Chiral Perturbation Theory in the mesonic and baryonic sectors are developed. The application of these concepts is then illustrated with a number of examples. A large number of exercises (81, with complete solutions) are included to familiarize the reader with helpful calculational techniques.
Download or read book Transition Radiation and Transition Scattering written by Vitaliĭ Lazarevich Ginzburg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book deals with radiation emission moving through plasmas and will be of interest to nuclear physicists, astrophysicsts. Russians very strong on plasma physics. Topical research, original material not available before. First appeared in 1984 but this translation includes two new chapters bringing it up to date, new referennces, 100 pages longer than previous edition. Usual criticism of translations does not apply as it's completely rewritten and revised. Ginzburg is one of the world's leading theoretical physicists. Tystovich is well known in the west, travels a lot, sometimes works in UK. AIP have other plasma books to promote with this. Plasma Physics Series.

Download or read book Physics and Astrophysics of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays written by M. Lemoine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-12-14 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International School on Physics and Astrophysics of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR2000) was held at the Observatoire de Paris–Meudon on June 26-29, 2000. This was the ?rst international school speci?cally dedicated to ultra high energy cosmic rays. Its aim was to familiarize with and attract students, physicists and astronomers into this quickly developing newresearch ?eld. The mysterious and currently unknown origin of the most energetic par- cles observed in Nature has triggered in recent years theoretical speculations ranging from electromagnetic acceleration to as yet undiscovered physics - yond the Standard Model. It has also lead to the development of several new detection concepts and experimental projects, some of which are currently - der construction. By its nature, the ?eld of ultra high energy cosmic rays is therefore highly interdisciplinary and borrows from astrophysics and cosmology, via particle physics, to experimental physics and observational astronomy. One main aspect of the school was to emphasize and take advantage of this interd- ciplinarity. The lectures were grouped into subtopics and are reproduced in this volume in the following order: After a general introductory lecture on cosmic rays follow two contributions on experimental detection techniques, followed by three lectures on acceleration in astrophysical objects. The next four contri- tions cover all major aspects of propagation and interactions of ultra high energy radiation, including speculative issues such as newinteractions.

Download or read book The Physics of the B Factories written by Adrian Bevan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive work thoroughly introduces and reviews the set of results from Belle and BaBar - after more than two decades of independent and complementary work - all the way from the detectors and the analysis tools used, up to the physics results, and the interpretation of these results. The world’s two giant B Factory collaborations, Belle at KEK and BaBar at SLAC, have successfully completed their main mission to discover and quantify CP violation in the decays of B mesons. CP violation is a necessary requirement to distinguish unambiguously between matter and antimatter. The shared primary objective of the two B Factory experiments was to determine the shape of the so-called unitarity triangle, an abstract triangle representing interactions of quarks, the elementary constituents of matter. The area of the triangle is a measure of the amount of CP violation associated with the weak force. Many other measurements have been performed by the B Factories and are also discussed in this work.
Download or read book Trends in the Draw of Americans to Foreign Terrorist Organizations from 9 11 to Today written by Heather J. Williams and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2018-12-27 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has recently been more successful than al Qaeda in gaining U.S. terrorist recruits. The authors undertake a demographic profile of individuals drawn to foreign terrorist organizations and find that the affiliates average terrorists recruited by ISIL is younger, less educated, and more likely to be African American/black or Caucasian/white and a U.S.-born citizen.
