Book Electronic Properties of Materials

Download or read book Electronic Properties of Materials written by Rolf E. Hummel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book on electrical, optical, magnetic and thermal properties of materials is in many aspects different from other introductory texts in solid state physics. First of all, this book is written for engineers, particularly materials and electrical engineers who want to gain a fundamental under standing of semiconductor devices, magnetic materials, lasers, alloys, etc. Second, it stresses concepts rather than mathematical formalism, which should make the presentation relatively easy to understand. Thus, this book provides a thorough preparation for advanced texts, monographs, or special ized journal articles. Third, this book is not an encyclopedia. The selection oftopics is restricted to material which is considered to be essential and which can be covered in a 15-week semester course. For those professors who want to teach a two-semester course, supplemental topics can be found which deepen the understanding. (These sections are marked by an asterisk [*]. ) Fourth, the present text leaves the teaching of crystallography, X-ray diffrac tion, diffusion, lattice defects, etc. , to those courses which specialize in these subjects. As a rule, engineering students learn this material at the beginning of their upper division curriculum. The reader is, however, reminded of some of these topics whenever the need arises. Fifth, this book is distinctly divided into five self-contained parts which may be read independently.

Book Bulk Metallic Glasses

Download or read book Bulk Metallic Glasses written by C. Suryanarayana and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflecting the fast pace of research in the field, the Second Edition of Bulk Metallic Glasses has been thoroughly updated and remains essential reading on the subject. It incorporates major advances in glass forming ability, corrosion behavior, and mechanical properties. Several of the newly proposed criteria to predict the glass-forming ability of alloys have been discussed. All other areas covered in this book have been updated, with special emphasis on topics where significant advances have occurred. These include processing of hierarchical surface structures and synthesis of nanophase composites using the chemical behavior of bulk metallic glasses and the development of novel bulk metallic glasses with high-strength and high-ductility and superelastic behavior. New topics such as high-entropy bulk metallic glasses, nanoporous alloys, novel nanocrystalline alloys, and soft magnetic glassy alloys with high saturation magnetization have also been discussed. Novel applications, such as metallic glassy screw bolts, surface coatings, hyperthermia glasses, ultra-thin mirrors and pressure sensors, mobile phone casing, and degradable biomedical materials, are described. Authored by the world’s foremost experts on bulk metallic glasses, this new edition endures as an indispensable reference and continues to be a one-stop resource on all aspects of bulk metallic glasses.

Book Electrical Engineer s Reference Book

Download or read book Electrical Engineer s Reference Book written by G R Jones and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long established reference book: radical revision for the fifteenth edition includes complete rearrangement to take in chapters on new topics and regroup the subjects covered for easy access to information. The Electrical Engineer's Reference Book, first published in 1945, maintains its original aims: to reflect the state of the art in electrical science and technology and cater for the needs of practising engineers. Most chapters have been revised and many augmented so as to deal properly with both fundamental developments and new technology and applications that have come to the fore since the fourteenth edition was published (1985). Topics covered by new chapters or radically updated sections include: * digital and programmable electronic systems * reliability analysis * EMC * power electronics * fundamental properties of materials * optical fibres * maintenance in power systems * electroheat and welding * agriculture and horticulture * aeronautic transportation * health and safety * procurement and purchasing * engineering economics

Book Passivity of Metals and Semiconductors

Download or read book Passivity of Metals and Semiconductors written by Michel Froment and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passivity of Metals and Semiconductors covers the proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Passivity, held in Bombannes, France on May30 - June3, 1983. The said symposium is concerned with passivity of metallic materials, localized corrosion, experimental techniques, and classical techniques such as optical techniques and electron spectroscopy. The book is divided into five sections. Section I deals with the concepts involved in the composition-transport phenomena and covers topics such as the transport of oxygen and water in oxide layers; the kinetics of oxidation of silicon; and the oxidation rate laws of metals that form nonstoichiometric oxides. Section II covers related techniques and their specific applications such as study of passivity of iron by in situ methods; optical methods in the study of passive films; and the analysis of multiple layer surface films by modulated reflection spectroscopy. Section III tackles amorphous metals - their passivity, their depassivation and repassivation in localized corrosion, and a comparison of models for localized breakdown of passivity. Part IV discusses the photoelectrochemistry of semiconductors; Part V tackles passivation and localized corrosion of stainless steels. The text is recommended for organic chemists, metallurgists, and engineers who would like to know more about the passivity of metals and their applications in different fields.
