Book Electron Impact Phenomena

Download or read book Electron Impact Phenomena written by F. H. Field and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron Impact Phenomena and the Properties of Gaseous Ions, Revised Edition deals with data pertaining to electron impact and to molecular gaseous ionic phenomena. This book discusses electron impact phenomena in gases at low pressure that involve low-energy electrons, which result in ion formation. The text also describes the use of mass spectrometers in electron impact studies and the degree of accuracy obtained when measuring electron impact energies. This book also reviews relatively low speed electrons and the transitions that result in the ionization of the atomic system. This text then discusses diatomic molecules whose mass spectra can be interpreted using the Franck-Condon principle. This selection also presents some examples of ions in solution that resemble the gaseous ions formed by electron impacts. The energies of these gaseous ions can be the key to understanding the mechanisms of ionic reactions. These examples include the olefin addition reactions and catalytic cracking. This text will prove invaluable for research chemists, students, and professors in chemistry and related fields such as organic chemistry and electrochemistry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is perhaps surprising that a process which was one of the first to be studied on an atomic scale, and a process which first received attention over seven decades ago, continues to be the object of diverse and intense research efforts. Such is the case with the (seemingly) conceptually simple and familiar mechanism of electron impact ionization of atoms, molecules, and ions. Not only has the multi-body nature of the collision given ground to theoretical effort only grudgingly, but also the variety and subtlety of processes contributing to ionization have helped insure that progress has come only with commensurate work: no pain - no gain. Modern experimental methods have made it possible to effectively measure and explore threshold laws, differential cross sections, partial cross sections, inner-shell ionization, and the ionization of unstable species such as radicals and ions. In most instances the availability of experimental data has provided impetus and guidance for further theoretical progress.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas Phase Ion Chemistry, Volume 1 covers papers on the advances of gas phase ion chemistry. The book discusses the advances in flow tubes and the measurement of ion-molecule rate coefficients and product distributions; the ion chemistry of the earth's atmosphere; and the classical ion-molecule collision theory. The text also describes statistical methods in reaction dynamics; the state selection by photoion-photoelectron coincidence; and the effects of temperature and pressure in the kinetics of ion-molecule reactions. The energy distribution in the unimolecular decomposition of ions, as well as the rapidity of ion-molecule reactions are also encompassed. Chemists, physicists, and people working in aeronomy laboratory and involved in space research will find the book invaluable.

Book Mathematics in Physics and Engineering

Download or read book Mathematics in Physics and Engineering written by J. Irving and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics in Physics and Engineering describes the analytical and numerical (desk-machine) methods that arise in pure and applied science, including wave equations, Bessel and Legendre functions, and matrices. The manuscript first discusses partial differential equations, as well as the method of separation of variables, three-dimensional wave equation, diffusion or heat flow equation, and wave equation in plane and cylindrical polar coordinates. The text also ponders on Frobenius' and other methods of solution. Discussions focus on hypergeometric equation, Bessel's equation, confluent hypergeometric equation, and change of dependent and independent variables. The publication takes a look at Bessel and Legendre functions and Laplace and other transforms, including orthogonal properties, applications from electromagnetism, spherical harmonics, and application to partial differential equations. The book also examines matrices, analytical methods in classical and wave mechanics, calculus of variations, and complex variable theory and conformal transformations. The book is a dependable reference for mathematicians, engineers, and physicists both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases

Download or read book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases written by W. Lindinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.

Book Absorption and Dispersion of Ultrasonic Waves

Download or read book Absorption and Dispersion of Ultrasonic Waves written by Karl F. Herzfeld and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Absorption and Dispersion of Ultrasonic Waves focuses on the influence of ultrasonics on molecular processes in liquids and gases, including hydrodynamics, energy exchange, and chemical reactions. The book first offers information on the Stokes-Navier equations of hydrodynamics, as well as equations of motion, viscosity, formal introduction of volume viscosity, and linearized wave equation for a nonviscous fluid. The manuscript then ponders on energy exchange between internal and external degrees of freedom as relaxation phenomenon; effect of slow energy exchange on sound propagation; different ways of evaluating the dispersion curve; and exact calculation of absorption and dispersion. The text examines the effects of chemical reactions, thermodynamic theory of relaxation, and mixtures. The book also evaluates the absorption of high intensity sound waves, ratio of relaxation absorption to classical absorption at maximum, and gas mixtures. Discussions also focus on translational relaxation in monatomic gases, linear triatomic molecules, and results for rotational relaxation. The manuscript is a dependable source of data for readers interested in the absorption and dispersion of ultrasonic waves.
